Blaggah
In my experience, sleep will be broken if you use USB wifi dongle especially on the 780, that's why I have moved to pci-e converter for my wifi.
morpheousman
I have used a cheap eBay $2 WiFi dongle before. I think it's a Realtek RTL8188, Like This One. I don't remember if it messed up sleep. I am using the Lan connection now.
harihacker
Thanks Guys for all the help. I had already ordered a 25 ft Cat6 network Lan cable as a backup in case the wifi thing does not work out. Now i know there is something called a PCI-E converter!!! Will look further into these. Have more than enough to go by. You guys are a huge help.
Blaggah
@harihacker if you plan on going the pci e route just get this along with the WiFi card. I use the AR9285 personally and it works great. https://www.ebay.com/itm/381679765166
ge2kaslt
Hello all. First of all have to say thank you for this great tutorial. And i want to share my experience. Yesterday it took me all day to finally run el captan on optiplex 790 (i5 2400) + MSI GTX750ti lp (low profile). First started with 790 package, all went fine but could not get proper video(it was slow and choppy but run on full resolution 1920x1200 and only on DVI port). Tried to install web drivers, tried to add nvda_drv=1, tried nvidia injection, also no go. Same slow video. Later on tried to replace DSDT generic file from "Optiplex 780 (760) El Capitan Clover-v3" then i could not even boot a system. So started to read all topic from beginning, and found modified DSDT file in post #786. So started to test it. And after some testing finally archived full res with full acceleration(only vram was 0mb). So here is how i did it: After post install, install web drivers WebDriver-346.03.15f02 Replace DSDT file from post #786 Add bootflag - nvda_drv=1 InjectNvidia - make sure it is selected Change mac profile to Mac Pro 3.1 Still have no sound on input or output ports, but im using usb speakers so its not a big issue. Also i could not boot with HDMI cable, system restarts. Maybe somebody can guide me how to make it work?i have two monitors it would be very nice to make use of both of them. Thank you --UPDATE All sorted now, found a solution. Changed mac profile to mac pro 3.1 and disabled InjectNvidia, dvi and hdmi ports are working now! full gpu name - MSI N750-TI-2GD5TLP

polyzargone
@iJ88 You can follow the Yosemite Guide here. Just make sure you use the correct Optiplex 780 (760) El Capitan Clover-v3.zip in place of the one provided in the Yosemite Guide (Optiplex 780-760 Clover). Actually, there's no need to use a third party app to create the USB pen. Everything you need ships with every OS X ! [EDIT] I've just noticed there's a problem with terminal commands at the end of this paragraph. Instead of this : 5. Prepare Bootable USB DriveThis step extracts the OS X Installer contents, then installs clover bootloader to the USB stick.Make sure to backup the files that are already on your USB flash drive: Insert the USB drive. Open up /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility. Highlight the USB drive in the left column. Click on the partion tab. Click Current and choose 1 Partition. Click Options... Choose GUID Partition Table. Under Name: type USB (you can rename it later) Under Format : choose Mac OS X Extended (Journaled) Click Apply then Partition. Go to Applications and find the OS X Yosemite installer. Right click on the installer and choose show package contents Navigate to Contents/Shared Support and double click on the InstallESD.dmg, the .dmg should now mount and appear on your desktop. Open Terminal and type the following command: open /Volumes/"OS X Install ESD"/BaseSystem.dmg Now, open the disk utility and restore the volume you previously named "USB" with the mounted BaseSystem. Once done, you will end up with two "OS X BaseSystem". Rename your USB drive to Yosemite. (not the dmg) You can tell which drive is the USB from the size. Type the following commands in Terminal: -cp "/Volumes/OS X Install ESD/BaseSystem.dmg" /Volumes/Yosemite/ - cp -a "/Volumes/OS X Install ESD/BaseSystem.chunklist" /Volumes/Yosemite/ - rm /Volumes/Yosemite/System/Installation/Packages - cp -a /Volumes/OS\ X\ Install\ ESD/Packages /Volumes/Yosemite/System/Installation/Packages You should read this : cp "/Volumes/OS X Install ESD/BaseSystem.dmg" /Volumes/Yosemite/ cp -a "/Volumes/OS X Install ESD/BaseSystem.chunklist" /Volumes/Yosemite/ rm /Volumes/Yosemite/System/Installation/Packages cp -a /Volumes/OS\ X\ Install\ ESD/Packages /Volumes/Yosemite/System/Installation/Packages There's no '-' before each command. iJ88
@Polyzargone Thanks for the reply. I was just being lazy! haha The tool was cool as it simplified the process... But I ended up using creating the partition in Disk Utility (for the installer USB). And then used the following in terminal; sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ El\ Capitan.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/USB --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ El\ Capitan.app --nointeraction Just waiting for it to finish so that I can install Clover on the USB, add my DSDT and repair this mess! Cheers dude
polyzargone
Yeah, this works too !I don't use this method because I need to have my USB pen works with both Clover and Chameleon/Enoch and alternatively with AMD processors based systems. You need to have access to /System/Library folder with the later to put the kernel inside but I agree this is not necessary for everyone .

gregbear284
Hello Guys and Gals I have optiplex 760 tower with El Capitan 10.11.6 Intel dou core 3.16 64 bit, 8-gigs of ram, 250-gig HD, stock DvD RW, Nvidia 610 1-gig graphics card. Made usb installer with Enoch Chameleon Capitan final basic drivers only. Turn off serial and parallel ports in bios. Load without graphics card in machine and install later with web driver or edit chameleon playlist. Also make post boot loader on HD later. Set all updates from apple 1st and reboot off usb -f. Install all drivers from kext utility and used chameleon post on HD last step. Fix permissions. All devices work and well. It went that easy to my surprise. I always reboot or start the machine -f though.
jfth40
Hi! I have a Dell Optiplex 780 SFF with El Capitan. I followed the instructions here to install. Some steps were not verry clear but I managed to make almost everything work. Minor problem - Sound is ok from the headphone jack but I have no sound from the computer speaker. When computer sleep and I wake up with keystroke. The computer wakes up but not the monitor.Important note : About this mac show ATI Radeon HD 5000 but realy it is a Radeon HD5450 inside (I dont know why I have HD 5000 in diagnostic). nurtext
I can confirm TP-Link TL-WN851ND works well in El Capitan too. Credits to Maggo for finding the Vendor and Device IDs: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/312656-guide-macos-sierra-1012-dell-optiplex-780-760/page-7?do=findComment&comment=2321771 Update-safe method with injector KEXT in Clover: 1. Download AtherosWiFiInjector.kext (Google for it) 2. Edit Info.plist and add: <string>pci168c,2d</string> <string>pci168c,2e</string> 3. Mount the EFI partition (e.g. using Clover Configurator) 4. Put the file in EFI / EFI / Clover / kexts / 10.11 5. Reboot Have fun using working WiFi

davey076
Curious....would it work as an upgrade to my existing El Capitan Optiplex 790 or require install from scratch? It will. just updated mine today. Just make sure you're running the latest version of Clover, Copy the kexts from /EFI/CLOVER/kexts/10.11 to /EFI/CLOVER/kexts/10.12. After that run the app from the App store, when it reboots select the install partition in Clover and let it finish. It's as simple as that!
