Still no 4k @ 60z with 10.10.3

This is very frustrating - i have to use DisplayPort on my LCD to get 60hz but i find DP to be not as stable for some reason - my screen sometimes does strange things with DP vs HDMI....

come on NVIDIA update your stuff!

Do you think this has to do with Nvidia?

Either way, it's strange that it isn't outputting 60hz. I thought that with the 10.10.3 update this issue would have been fixed since there is better support for 4k and 5k displays and so on..

There should be a way to get 60hz back right? I tried to do a clean install of 10.10.0 but creating a bootloader with prior versions of os x yosemite seems impossible for some reason.

Any wizkid who can figure this out? It frustrates me so bad that I'm willing to pay for whoever can fix this for us!

Same here: iMac 27" Late 2013 should be supported in 10.10.3 for 60 Hz 4K.

neither the Dell 2414 or 2415 will operate as Single Stream in 4k (not at all), only as MST but also only then at 30 Ghz

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M

It actually does work at 30hz via SST. If I boot my windows partition then 60hz is just working fine and everything runs smooth, as soon as I boot Mac, I'm stuck at 30hz.

Do you guys know a way to create a 10.10.0 or 10.10.1 boot loader? Downgrading is fine with me if that gives me a workable refresh rate.

Hi guys!

From what I know 4K@60Hz is possible if all parts of combination GPU/drivers/monitor are ok with requirements!

Firstly you must verify nvidia/amd site to see the specs of your card! Doing 4K@60Hz requires HDMI2.0 or DP1.2 capabilities!

I have amd 7970m card hdmi1.4 (no 60Hz) and DP1.2 BUT it give max 2560*1600 @60Hz! So no way to drive my DELL 4Kmonitor at 60Hz....

I've bough a gtx 970m card, arrived today (no acceleration yet, I'm looking for it), and I hope with this card I'll able to drive my monitor at least via HDMI2.0!

It's software related. My hardware (gtx 980) can output 60hz at 4k without a problem, even 4 individual displays if necessary.

It just has something to do with OS X and web drivers.

Hopefully there will be a fix anytime soon, otherwise I probably sell the GTX 980 and buy two R9 290x cards in exchange... 30hz is unworkable.

Do you guys think this can be fixed when Nvidia updates their web drivers or is this some kinda block in OS X?

I can confirm that the latest web drivers with the additional 10.10.3 didn't fix any of the 4k issues.

I'm thinking about switching to AMD graphics which supports 4k 60hz natively...

Can we expect this to be fixed anyway?

I am happy to report that i am now outputting 4K @ 60hz!

tbh i have no idea what happened - but all of sudden its working!

Seriously? And you are at 10.10.2 or 10.10.3?

You would totally make my day if you can find out how this happened!

On Mac? Late 2013 27"? 10.10.3?

I tried everything, no 60 Hz Single stream 4k... Booring, rebooting, fresh system... nothing...

??????

I see a custum GPU "NVIDIA GTX 750 Ti", I have a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M, that's what is build in a Mac Late 2013 27", and that is what we are talking about here, not a Mac Pro!!!

10.10.3

iMac14,2

NVIDIA GTX 750 Ti

NVIDIA drivers

Clover boot

All I did was power off the machine ; disconnect the cables to change a fan and plugged it all back together again

Would you be so kind to share your config.plist file with us? Hopefully that gives a little more insight :)

  • 3 weeks later...

Hey,

I was having trouble using the HDMI port with  a Samsung 4k TV. I am using a Nvidia 970 with Web drivers.

Running the mac pixel clock pacher made the HDMI 2.0 port work normaly defaulting in 3840x2160@60Hz with scaling options. It fix was confirmed working in 10.10.1 and 10.10.3

https://github.com/floris497/mac-pixel-clock-patch/

Before the screen was defaulting to 7680 x 4050 @ 24Hz  and would accept 3840x2160@30Hz without scaling options.

It was not a problem of bandwidth since 7680 x 4050 @ 24Hz requires more than 3840x2160@60Hz. But i did notice that none of the available resolutions would have a pixel clock above 297MHz. 4K@60Hz requires a pixel clock of 594MHz in this screen.

DVI was already working and DP is not tested.

Just got a P2415Q which should work because it is an SST.

Plugged it into 780ti's DP port and 4K 60Hz works like a charm with 10.10.3 and web driver 346.01.02f03.

Here is the screenshot:

post-1106180-0-49351800-1431788496_thumb.png

BTW my build is:

i7 4790K (no OC)

MSI 780ti Gaming

G.Skill DDR3-1600 8GB x2

Dell P2415Q

OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 (with supp. update)

Nvidia WebDriver-346.01.02f03

SMBIOS: MacBookPro11,1 (avoid any influence from AppleGraphicsDevicePolicy.kext)

Note: I tried MacPro6,1 and iMac15,1 for SMBIOS, no luck for them.

I have struggled for a long time before making the purchase.

My advice: Trade your MST monitor ASAP and buy an SST one.
