Your newest driver is crashing after a while.

It crashes 2 times during the last days while the system sleeps.... kernel panic happened after ca. 3 days.

I'm almost 100% sure that this is not a driver bug because kernel panics occur when a driver fails to communicate with the OS but I haven't changed the code that talks to the OS, neither did Apple change the driver interface. Therefore I assume that the real cause of the problem is located somewhere else. Did you change anything in your system configuration?

As the problem is related to sleep/wake I'd guess that it's due to a DSDT problem or a wrong BIOS setting.

im getting the same kernel panic using your kext, i dont kniw if its related to it but anyway http://imgur.com/8RwvtuU

No it's different and it looks more like a messed up system as it reminds me of this issue: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/304235-intelmausiethernetkext-for-intel-onboard-lan/?p=2115239

@ Mieze

The 2.0 Version of the driver isn´t doing this.

Had it installed before without any problems.

Right now testing it since 3 days without problems.

Could it be related to my self compiled release version of it, using the actual xcode?

It´s not related to my system, never had something before, wether with your driver nor with the AppleIntelE1000e.

The changes I made since 2.0 only affect the NIC's hardware configuration and it's quite hard to relate them to a kernel panic. Also I can't rule out that your self compiled version is the cause of the problem and El Capitan has proven to be a troublemaker even on systems which used to work perfectly before. Thats why I'm at a loss at the moment.

Please try to describe the problem a little bit more in detail. When exactly did the driver crash or which steps are necessary to reproduce the problem. What happened before the kernel panic occurred?

HI Mieze,

there is any prevision of availability regards i219 support by the way of your driver? I'm sniffing around Z170 motherboards and I'm wondering what would be the best choice regards the LAN support... thank you!  :)

Well, I updated the Realtek driver and published an update for the Atheros driver this weekend. IntelMausiEthernet will be the next to update but taking all the problems into account that the Intel NICs have, I'd recommend to get a mainboard with an Atheros Killer NIC as these chips are known to work perfectly under OS X with my driver.

Same kind of Kernel Panic happens to me on 2.0.2d7

It happens on auto wakeup from sleep and not always i.e. when you leave the system sleeping for a day or so the risk of one of those "autowakeup/sleep" resulting in kernel panic increases.

Others users have posted this stability issue didn't happen on v1. I've been on v2 since the beginning so I can't compare.

Besides that I haven't noticed any major problem with this driver so I can only thank to Mieze for his great work.

There is still no evidence for a driver bug and I can't reproduce the behavior you described.

The driver is called one last time before the system goes to sleep in order to shutdown the NIC and to enable WoL in case you selected it. There is no driver activity during sleep. The next time it gets called is on wakeup.

Tonight I got kernel panic again (after some days without issues)

To me it's clear the kernel panicked when it had to deal with IntelMausi while going to sleep. I'm not saying the driver has a bug though.

@ Mieze

My system is running with 2.0 now since 5 days without problems, so it seems to be related to your last version(s).

On my system the 2.0.2d7 crashes while the system is in sleep, not at wake up or something else. (Maybe some WOL check??)

The error is not reproduce able, because it just crashes after a longer sleep time. There is no problem in the OS.

Seems to be a really strange problem if you mean there is no driver activity during sleep.

But believe me it crashes while it is in sleep.....

@ wastez

You first reported on Haswell systems becoming unstable during sleep (and detailed a procedure to delete the Sleep Policy plist); could this be related?

On my end, I've been having the reboot upon wakeup issue for as long as I can remember (even before I switched to the mausi kext) ... :-(

The only thing I changed since 2.0.0 is the tx descriptor prefetch policy which has absolutely nothing to do with sleep because the transmitter is disabled while the system sleeps.

In case you are using WoL, please disable it in System preferences and test again. Apple has reworked power management in 10.11. Maybe it's some strange side effect.

@ xenophon

Yes some Haswell Systems have problems with sleep (hibernatemode 0), i´m quite sure it´s related to some memory modules. (thats the reason for the compatibility lists i think)

But in this case it has nothing to do with it because i just use hibernatemode (hibernatemode 25) on my haswell system to avoid this problem.

In this mode the system can be in sleep for weeks without problems.

@ mieze

Will test the 2.0.0 version the next days to be sure it´s related to the versions after it.

After testing this i will install your latest driver and disable WoL.

Mieze,

I've been using your kext and I have to say that I can actually see improvements in speed over the previous ethernet kext that was available.

However, I can't seem to get Jumbo frames to stick. Usually with a device that supports jumbo frames I can change the MTU manually to 9000, but it reverts to 1500 (as it should, because that is the range that is allowed).

Is there a way of enabling jumbo frames on your driver?
