pieman777
2.0.8 is being tested at the moment and want to release it at the weekend. I cannot see any issues on Windows 10, so can you post the output of running the unlocker please? As for not replying I do have other things in my life that take time and energy. This project is for fun, not profit or commercially supported software. Thanks! sandstones
Since upgrading to El Capitan my maximum screen resolution (as seen in OS X) is now 1024x768. VMware still shows resolution to be that of the full display (2560x1600). Is this something that might be corrected in 2.0.8?

It depends on which host OS and VMWare Workstation version. This is explained in the original post. As for the files you have, this is not supported specifically by the unlocker or Donk. He and MsoK explain how to create your own OS X VM. You should ask what to do from the place you got the files. Since upgrading to El Capitan my maximum screen resolution (as seen in OS X) is now 1024x768. VMware still shows resolution to be that of the full display (2560x1600). Is this something that might be corrected in 2.0.8? The unlocker does not set the resolution.

Donk
14/11/15 - Version 2.0.8 Player 12 on Linux fixes - unlocker works correctly to patch on Linux with Player installed Get latest VMware tools command - always have the latest tools on Windows and Linux versions of VMware Removed firmware files - used for Leopard/Snow Leopard client installs but pretty risky if keep using old firmware with newer versions of VMware products and virtual hardware. trentfox
Fantastic; thanks Donk! I'm anxious to try this. Question - do I need to uninstall Unlocker 2.0.7 before installing Unlocker 2.0.8? Also, if I already have a virtual machine made up from my Mac based on Unlocker 2.0.7 and the iso tools from that version. Is there something further that I would have to do to that vm if I want to transfer it to a PC running Player 12 (fixed with Unlocker 2.0.8)? Thanks! Donk
I would uninstall 2.0.7 and then install 2.0.8. The tools will also get upgraded, so you can try a re-install in the guests to get the latest version. However the VM should just work.

trentfox
Unfortunately, the new unlocker didn't change anything; I can still run vms created from my Mac using the saved image, but as soon as I try rebooting them, they hang up. I also tried creating a Yosemite vm from an installer DMG file on the 2.0.8 patched version of VMware Player on my Dell, and it booted the DMG initially, but then hung up in the same place as before, as noted by the progress bar. Adding SMC.version = "0" to the VMX file had no noticable impact. Inspection of the vmware log file showed two interesting problems: UserLocale=NULL 2015-11-30T08:58:48.571-05:00| vmx| I125: DictionaryLoad: Cannot open file "/usr/lib/vmware/settings": No such file or directory. and 2015-11-30T08:58:48.571-05:00| vmx| I125: DictionaryLoad: Cannot open file "/home/(username)/.vmware/config": No such file or directory. There were other similar statements in the log, but both suggested that there should be two files that weren't present. So I went ahead and created those files, but unfortunately, it didn't seem to recognize them because I got the same errors. VMX and log files are attached. Don't worry about those files being missing, 99% of all deployments do not use them. Primary use is system wide settings in enterprise setups. How did you create the installer image you used for Yosemite? Here are some additional steps you can take to get more information. 1. Edit the OS X guest's VMX file and add these lines to setup serial port outputting to file in VMFS guests folder: efi.shell.activeByDefault = "TRUE" efi.serialconsole.enabled = "FALSE" serial0.fileType = "file" serial0.fileName = "osxdebug.txt" serial0.present = "TRUE" msg.autoAnswer = "TRUE" answer.msg.serial.file.open = "Replace" 2. Boot to the EFI shell and then run: fs<x>:\usr\standalone\i386\boot.efi -v -cpuid -topo debug=0x12A You will have to find the correct x value from the mounted volumes in the shell. 3. Close VM down and attach the vmware.log and osxdebug.txt files to a post.
trentfox
On a hunch, I uninstalled VMware Player (12) and reinstalled it from scratch. I then applied the 2.0.8 unlocker, and added the smc.version = "0" to the Yosemite VMX file. Everything worked, and I now have a working Yosemite vm on my Dell! Might I suggest, Donk, that you add to the Readme of Unlocker 2.0.8 that if you had another version of Unlocker installed, you reinstall the VMware app, rather than uninstall the earlier version of Unlocker on the existing app. Finally, to answer your question about the source of my installer, I re-downloaded Yosemite from the App Store one of my Macs (it was 10.10.1) and then converted it to a DMG using the CYI.tool. Donk, I really appreciate that you took the time to answer my queries, and I hope that the bit about reinstalling Player will help someone else with a similar problem. It isn't often you need to uninstall and reinstall the whole app. (As I develop it I am doing this all the time) Must have been something in this particular installation, but I agree I will add it to the notes as a last resort option. It's not that big a deal to do it, and you have a known state to work from with the unlocker. Cheers
jim82
If I install this onto ESXi 6.0, does the below mean than none of my VM's will be able to utilize VM Version 11? Any other limitations I should be aware of in ESXi 6.0? Thanks and Best regards Jim IMPORTANT: || ========== || || If you create a new VM using version 11 or 12 hardware VMware may stop and || create a core dump. There are two options to work around this issue: || || 1. Change the VM to be HW 10 - this does not affect performance. || 2. pieman777
A few quick questions, Donk. If I update the OS X VM do I have to re-install the tools after each update? Do I have to make any other tweaks to the VM in order for Apple services or apps to work? (I saw something about a BootLoader and using Clover to make it "act like a real Mac") Is the VM utilizing my graphics card or is it using my integrated CPU's graphics? Would enabling GPU hardware acceleration have any effect on the machines performance or is that not supported on OS X VMs? I apologize in advance, I'm new to this whole OS X virtualization. I'm just trying to get a better understanding of how it operates
MSoK
A few quick questions, Donk. If I update the OS X VM do I have to re-install the tools after each update? Do I have to make any other tweaks to the VM in order for Apple services or apps to work? I'm just trying to get a better understanding of how it operates No you should not need to re-install the VMware Tools for minor revisions, but would between versions i.e. Yosemite to El Capitan, do not forget any updates to VMware Workstation or Player need the Unlocker re-installing. No additional tweaks other than install the VMware Tools are required, yes there are some config file (VMX) additions that can be made to provide support for iMessage and FaceTime, but these need a genuine Mac Serial Number, etc. see the link below: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/292170-how-to-spoof-real-mac-in-VMware/ The OS X Virtual Machine uses a virtual graphics card which has no direct link to your actual graphics card and supports a maximum of 128MB of RAM, some people have had some success in ESXi passing through graphics but has to be a supported graphics card and requires significant work see link below: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/285733-graphics-acceleration-in-esxi-51-and-os-x-mountain-lion-vm/

With Unlocker 2.07 I'm using TechReviews: https://www.youtube....h?v=qIINnuBRsmg - download link: https://goo.gl/2Lu9c6 I get this core dump: vcpu:-0:Verify vmcore/vmm/main/physmem_monitor.c:1178 And yes i've already added: smc.version = "0" to my VMX configuration file... What is wrong ??? Please i can't expand my OS X VM image: 40 GB preset in VMware is simply to small Regards Tom
