VMware 14 - I have an error "Dictionary problem" when I use a physical disk with installed macOS High Sierra with HFS+ File System :/ With virtual vmdk disk macOS works fantastic (APFS).

Are you sure this problem is related to the patch? From the admittedly-little research I have done, this is typically a snapshot-related issue (see https://communities.vmware.com/thread/440046). This is obviously an virtual machine from an older VMware version (as indicated by the presence of an "Upgrade this virtual machine" option in the UI), so it's possible that something may be wrong with the VM itself. Try creating a new VM but using your existing VMDK file. If you have snapshots, you will have to look in to  how to move them if that is something you want to do. I have no experience with migrating a VM with snapshots, so I really do not know how the process works.

Quick update - code for Windows and Linux Workstation and Player now tested and appears OK. Still some issues on ESXi which are currently being worked on.

UPDATE - I think everything is now done. I will build a release tomorrow.

Ah! So many problems! If I take over this project from Donk, I am going to have to come up with a better way of handling issue reports because there is just too much going on here.

Is there a good reason why we don't use the issue system available on GitHub?

I do not know. You will have to ask Donk about that one.

I was being spammed by lots of help me please requests and will give money for help, and very few actual issues. The unlocker is about the 4th generation of tools to do this and it all started here when I frst released somethign back in  2008. So I have trusted helpers here who have helped out over the years.

Anyway the git repo will be going once I hve handed the project over and everyone and David-B can decide how to move forward with this.

I have submitted the release to the moderators for release. Please note I decided to call it 2.1.0 as it no longer supports 6.0 only 6.5. For ESXi 6.0 users stick to 2.0.8.

I am starting a new thread for this release as soon as I have the download link for 2.1.0.

Here's something:

I have updated my ESXi 6.5 installation to build number 6765664 and now I am able to select "Mac OS" (up to 10.12) as a guest OS when creating a new virtual machine.

This was quite unexpected since I have never patched my ESXi 6.5 installation with the unlocker.

Ok thanks for your post

When is the official version 2.0.9 unlocked?

I have the same version of ESXi running. Glad to hear that your VMs are working fine (past posts on this thread indicates  thateven non-MacOS VMs wouldn't start after installing unlocker but I believe that was with unlocker 2.0.8, not 2.0.9). What I really would like to know is whether you have a Mac OS VM running on ESXi, and if you don't, would you be willing to install one? Thanks for any info.

I'm sorry for not responding sooner...

Somehow I missed the notification...

Anyhow, I'm running 6-8 VMs on this Host, including one OSX:

Hello,

I've set up a VM running Mac OS High Sierra on a Ubuntu 16.04 host (VMWare). Everything works well except for connecting an iOS device (tried both iPad and iPod Touch) via USB forwarding. When the device is connected, the guest freezes for about 30 seconds. When it unfreezes, the device is visible in the device list (under the USB 2.0 hub), but software in the guest (Xcode, iTunes) do not recognize the device. Unplugging the iOS device after this point causes the device to crash and reboot. Both dmesg and system.log on the guest look clean after the freeze occurs.

I've read a number of other posts online about this issue and tried various solutions, but none have worked. Things I've tried:

1. Using USB 1.1 or 2.0 in the VM settings (instead of 3.0)

2. Enabling VM quirks mode (skip-reset, skip-refresh, skip-setconfig)

3. Upgrading the guest OS to the latest Mac OS version, and upgrading iTunes

4. Upgrading the iOS device to the latest iOS version

5. Disabling usbmuxd on the host

6. Using a different USB port and different USB cable

7. Upgrading to Workstation 14 and Unlocker 2.1.1 with latest VMWare Tools

Here are the versions of my software:

VMWare Workstation 14.1.0 (also tried 12.5.8)

iOS 11.2.1 (also tried 10.3.2)

Mac OS High Sierra 10.13.2 (also tried 10.13.0)

iTunes 12.7.2.60

Ubuntu 16.04.2

libimobiledevice6 1.2.0

Looking for any pointers or hints anyone can provide as to what might be the problem. I'd love to dig deeper into this but I'm trying to figure out the right direction to look.

EDIT: Here is another post regarding the same issue: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/322397-macos-sierra-freeze-under-vmware-1215-when-ios-device-plugged/

EDIT2: Original post was based on Workstation 12.5.8 and Unlocker 2.0.8. Have since upgraded to 14 and 2.1.1 but issue persists.

I just tried this on VMWare Player 14.1.1 running on Ubuntu 18.04 and got this:

Quote

GOS Patching: /usr/lib/vmware/lib/libvmwarebase.so.0/libvmwarebase.so.0
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "./unlocker.py", line 413, in <module>
    main()
File "./unlocker.py", line 404, in main
    patchbase(vmwarebase)
File "./unlocker.py", line 283, in patchbase
    f = open(name, 'r+b')
IOError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/usr/lib/vmware/lib/libvmwarebase.so.0/libvmwarebase.so.0'

I don't know if the file name of the library should be twice (as shown), but I don't see Mac OS X in my Player as one of the options.

Thanks

1- install Workstation pro 14

2- downloand unloker 2.1

3- run win-install --error not item macos

please help

Can you run chcp from the command line and tell me the value please? I think it is an issue with Python and code page 65001. You could try running chcp 850 and then running the unlocker.
