For the glitch, tell me more about it ...

For the shutdown problem, it appears to be a software problem .. it might be some application or service preventing OSX from shutting down ... try a new profile .. I never had such a problem though, nor that anyone reported something like that.

The upper bar has ruined fonts and I have a lot of issues on external hdmi (problems in video overlay).

How can I see if some service is preventing the shutting down?

Thank you in advance!

I believe this is the 9MB cursor bytes glitch .. make sure this patch exist in your config.plist:

Just tried, but didn't work (I mean, the new profile)... :'(

Here we go: FIXED!

It was a problem with my config.plist. I've modified it on my own (the last changes I've made) with notepad, and there were some issues.

I've corrected it, and now works like a charm!!!

Nothing to do: once again the problem with reboot/power off. :(

Don't know why it worked twice!

I'm sorry but I can't really understand what worked and what didn't. Try fixing one thing at a time .. let's go with the graphic issue because it seem easier (or straightforward) to solve.

  • Ignoring anything HDMI related (keep it disconnected for now), do you still have the glitch?
  • Are you sure the patch I put above is set correctly in your config.plist?
  • Have you tried clearing kext cache and reboot couple of times?

Sorry, it seems that forum has put 3 different message into new one.

So, this is the updated status of my issues:

-glitch on Apple Bar: fixed, now works fine.

-reboot/shutdown issue: nothing to do. When I try to reboot, finder is closed, no icons on desktop, no apple bar, but dock is on screen and I can launch every program. When I open an app, apple bar become visible once again.

I don't know what does it mean!

In attachment, my config.plist

Thank you for your helping hand!

This is what happens when I try to reeboot, logoff and power off. (See attachment)

I've just discovered that, when i try to reboot or power off from login page at startup, my mac actually power off.

Gosh.

Gosh.

If I were you, I would try removing Finder's preferences file and reboot (by any mean) so new clean one is generated. To do that, you can execute this command in Terminal:

rm ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist

That said, some one on this forum have mentioned similar symptoms to your problem although the problem itself may be different. Anyway, check out how he solved it:

Remember that rebooting makes the screen go black during the update. So you'll have to shutdown manually.

Technically it does not. Or in other words, the black screen have nothing to do with the update. We have a graphic driver issue explained briefly in the guide (full details here):

Issues and What does not work  :thumbsdown_anim:

  • Intel GPU / Restart issue: There is a problem related to graphics occurs when display goes off then on, like when system sleeps and wake for example, which results in no display on restart. More details and a workaround for this problem are introduced in Post Installation / graphics section.

So if one proceeded with the update without doing anything that trigger this issue, the update will go fine without black screen on reboot (this was my case by the way). However, if one start updating after waking from sleep (for example), the graphic issue is active and next restart (the one triggered by the updater) will lead to black screen.

Long story short, the update process is innocent and it is the graphic driver fault.

Hey I haven't used my OS X lately, but now I'm in mood to try it in depth. So firstly I have two questions:

- I want to change my wireless card, but I'm not sure that I can find the right one, can you provide me one from amazon or ebay but uk versions and won't need to wait more than a week  :)

- I'm using Windows 10 insider previews and I think that my card now is really good, so this one I will buy will be good as one I'm using, I mean without any problems, and fast? 5G?

And I see that things have changed after my last visit and now we talk about OS X El Capitan (10.11), is it possible to upgrade from Yosemite and if yes would have any problems?

Thanks for the wasted time to answer me  :D

I can only suggest the one I bought from ebay.co.uk (although it ships from China and would take 4 weeks) : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271531253214?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT. Take a look around and try to get similar model sooner if you are in hurry.

I'm using Windows 10 but not Insider. The card I have (linked above) works totally fine and support 5G. Can't comment about Insider builds but it's tempting to say: why not?

I didn't upgrade like that myself but I think someone did here (search). I fail to find a reason why there would be a problem. You will still need to repatch your ACPI tables, update kexts, edit your config.plist as detailed in the guide.

I just ordered this one, but Estimated delivery text it's killing me:

Estimated delivery Monday, 22. Feb. 2016 - Tuesday, 15. Mar. 2016

Will wait a lot, but anyway. Hope it will works and then I will decide to upgrade or to reinstall it from zero.

Thanks :)

My problem is as follows:

I have installed mac os x with this config.plist:

....
And I am running OS X with the same config. The thing is, when i change some things, SMBIOS for example in clover configurator. Like so:

....
I cannot boot anymore. I see clover, click my hdd, i see the apple logo. But before the loading bar shows, my y510p reboots...

Hi. I see this is your first post, welcome to the forum!

First of all, no need to post full code of anything, just attach the files to keep your post easy to read and manage. Unless you want to highlight a piece of it then it is good to post that piece of code within the post.

Now to your problem. There are three things to consider:

  1. We don't use Clover Configurator for editing our config.plist whenever needed. Yes this app have nice and friendly GUI but it does not support all the features Clover do and I have seen many cases of this app breaking config.plist completely. Instead, we edit the code inside config.plist directly using any plist editor (Xcode have one and PlistEdit Pro is a decent app for this).
  2. We don't use the same config.plist for both the installation and the actual system. The one for actual system usually have patches, settings and load ACPI tables (DSDT and SSDT) which is not required for USB installer.
  3. As a start, head to the first post of this thread (the guide itself) and find the Links & Downloads section. From there, you will find links to USB EFI folder and ready made config.plist for the actual system. Use them to make sure you are able to boot, THEN, open them to read and learn.

I hope this helps.

Ah, clover was the problem indeed. It broke my config.plist every time. Thanks a lot for the help! Amazing that you're helping all the people on this forum like this!

Thanks but don't push this too far, I need help too and I get it from more experienced people. It's a cycle and everyone should do his part so the community can evolve. You might be doing the same or more even if not for OSX. You can share knowledge and help people in any aspect of life.

  I can not do DSDT/SSDT. I think I still have a problem on the motherboard. Can anyone send me by mega.co.nz , yahoo DSDT/SSDT , only for test. Please! I have problems on graphics to 10.9 /10.10 /10.11 (No QE/CI).  Before burning the north bridge, 10.9 /10.10 worked.

Hi, sorry for your problems. Just to make sure I understand, do you need already patched DSDT and SSDTs??

And how did you burn the north bridge??? also how are you able to even power on the machine with the north bridge burnt (motherboard dead)? maybe I'm missing something here ...

I can not extract tablet to make a DSDT and SSDTs. I know it is NOT ok to use DSDT and SSDTs on another laptop even if identical. Yes, i need already patched DSDT and SSDTs. North Bridge burnt it when I changed from 100ms to 300ms delay (video intel). I think I wrote on page 20-30. I had Maverick installed right from the beginning, when  useletters he started topic.

P.S. I repaired a week ago was 100 eur repair. I have not used for several months.
