Rammjet
To change the computer's hostname, the name that appears on networks and at the prompt in Terminal, go to System Preferences -> Sharing and click the button at the top.

nyjets12
Thanks Rammjet! That worked.. but what I was looking for also was how to change the "Machine Name" that appears when you run About This Mac and chose More Info (System Profiler).. What shows up by default is "jMac" Someone had posted how to change that setting.. was buried down in a config file somewhere.. Not a big deal by any means, but if anyone knows how to change that, it would be cool Thanks!

I use it to help me answer about 75% of the posts I answer. It took me only a minute to find this: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?s=&...st&p=139073 My observation is that it is a plist file contained in System Profiler so if you ever install an update that replaces System Profiler, you have to modify the file again.
