Does this mean I dont have a good DVD?
skredii
try to boot off the DVD with the options: -v -x (you need to press F8 then enter -v -x at prompt) Â And report the errors if any. Â The -v option is for verbose mode. And the -x option is safe boot.
Chad0487
I tried booting with Each of those options... Â same thing happens. It says something about not recognising a driver "ASCI" or something like that

Pelle007
I tried booting with Each of those options...  same thing happens. It says something about not recognising a driver "ASCI" or something like that  I think it says 'ACPI', not 'ASCI'... Try hitting F8 and type "platform=X86PC", or try messing with some ACPI related things in your BIOS.
Chad0487
the last line says... Â panic (cpu 0 caller 0x00399CA3): unable to find driver for this platform "ACPI" Â I dont know what that means. how do I mess with ACPI things in my BIOS. Â I know how to get to my BIOS setings but what am I looking for?
Pelle007
Seems like Darwin has no drivers for your ACPI! Before you start trying to modify your BIOS settings, try typing "platform=X86PC" (as i already said before and without quotes)! This will set Darwin for X86PC environment. hecker
You guys can try disabling ACPI in the bios. It is usually under power management. Could be something like this: 1. Enter the BIOS setup by pressing "DEL" while booting. 2. Go to "Power Management SETUP". 3. Scroll down to "ACPI Aware O/S". 4. Using the "Page Up/Page Down" set to "No". 5. Save and Exit. jdyck
I tried turning my acpi off. Tried this with my 10.4.6, 10.4.7, and 10.4.8 disc without any luck. I also tried to use the "platform=X86PC" without any luck.
Syst3mNuk3r
Hey all, I have the exact same problem as the OP, it says ACPI error. I tried disabling ACPI in my bios, but when i boot, it says something along the lines of Windows did not shut down properly, and gives the choice of booting from the last know state, safe mode, or start windows normally, and none of them work, so i have to enable ACPI in the bios again... >.> Any help? EDIT: Ok, I have found a tut on disabling ACPI completely, restarting computer now to see if it works. Tutorial here: HERE Edited March 8, 2007 by Syst3mNuk3r
RobbieS
I have the same problem you do, however i cant even get into safe mode, Darwin just loads, and F8 doesnt work- how do i get it to give me the option of -s. I assume darwin is on quite boot- how do i change this?
WaldMeister
I don't know if this apply's for AMD! Deleting the /System/Library/Extensions/IOPCCard.kext works for Intel Core Duo with the ACPI kernel panic. Â note: On version 10.4.8 with 8.8.1 kernel. unknownserv
How can I delete that file if OS X won't boot?
Syst3mNuk3r
I would also like to know. I think its sudo rm -R /System/Library/Extensions/IOPCCard.kext
WaldMeister
I think its sudo rm -R /System/Library/Extensions/IOPCCard.kext You got that right If you have windows installed, you can use Macdrive to delete the file. If not, try single user mode ( -s) if your lucky, it will start in single user mode, most of the time it won't. If core duo, disabling 1 core, should do the trick aswell. WaldMeister
In the bios yes, i don't know if you have the phoenix bios and if your installing on a notebook, then it's quite easy
Syst3mNuk3r
I'm installing on a desktop and I have MSI K9N motherboard. Brb, I'll see if I can find the option to disable a core.
WaldMeister
If you have windows, the best sollution would be to install macdrive... Or are you typing from another pc?
Syst3mNuk3r
No, I'm typing on the PC where I want to install Mac. I still haven't installed it yet, I get to the APCI part (or whatever its called...) and I can't get passed it. I also dont know how to disable a core, I checked all over my bios... WaldMeister
Well, i can only say, keep windows, install macdrive, and then start os x, after installing, press F8, start windows, and delete the file...
