asap18
I know it was foolish to get the combo drive with my macbook, but 3 months later I'm thinking to upgrade it to a superdrive. Ive seen superdrives on ebay but they say ibook and powerbook. Can I use those or do I need a special firmware for EFI? Also can apple do it for me if I send it in? JustBrowsing
Ouch, that's why it's well worth it in my opinion to spring for the superdrive. Combo drives are just not worth it in terms of computing anymore. It should be standard on MacBooks, for $1,000+ and just have a CD/RW/DVD-ROM .... you've gota be kidding me. You might be able to swap it out; but I'd never attempt it.... the way those drives are made ... ugh.
mrks
Changing the optical drive on the MacBook is a really easy job. The only problem is finding the right Superdrive. On the MacBooks and MBP's the superdrives are slimmer than normal 12mm notebook drives, so most of the drives that you can find won't physically fit into your MacBook. The only one you can actually use is the Mat{censored}a UJ-857, which is the one Apple uses.
