Almost all applications have quit unexpectedly error

Hi everyone,

I have recently installed Mac OS X Lion on my AMD FX 8350 black edition build.

The install went pretty smooth with no issues and i have used Niresh12495 to install it using the amd kernel.

I have encountered some strange issues and after extensive research with no luck finding a fix i decided to come here.

My issue lies with the applications, i have installed the iLife and iWork suite sucessfully with no errors although if i attempt to run the apps i get the error "<application name> quit unexpectedly". The same also applies for my USB Wi-Fi adapter driver software, i get the same error so i am unable to connect to the internet.

It seems that most of the pre-installed apps like iCal and mail and safari seem to work fine its just anything new i install the OS won't run.

Some of the research i looked at suggested that i should Update my os which i need to do for my graphics card to be offcially supported in 10.7.5 (Sapphire HD 7950) although after a few a attemps i just got a boot loop

I am kinda new to hackintoshing so you may need to explain things in deatail.

While I'm not the biggest fan of the Niresh distro most people seem to use them. What I can think of is that it is using one of the older kernel's, please try a newer kernel that supports the FX.

You can find help & support in the AMD Development topic for kernel testing, or the official topic for help here.

gils83 is the most active tester for AMD FX.

My real goal is to get an AMD FX 8320 running mountain lion 10.8.3 or above - need this as native support for my graphics card comes in this update. Or if thats not possible Lion running at 10.7.5 as drivers are also availble for that version.

Hi Shenstone

First you gonna need a working FX kernel, you need a functional mac to make a more "vanilla" install, the reason for vanilla installs is because with distro's they seem to load extra files. A lot of AMD beginners on this site use "iATKOS" as a distro then replace the kernel with the AMD kernel.

The reason for your boot loop is after you update, the kernel is "swapped out" with an Intel kernel, that is the main reason why most rename the kernel to amd_kernel then change the kernel in bootloader file

I have managed to install mountain lion on my amd machine successfully using iAtkos although when i attempt to boot using the boot flag "fx_kernel" it carn't find the kernel (which was originaly stored on the USB installer) and therefore starts a boot loop.

Any ideas?

USB Installer Method

Reboot to your installer, open Terminal (you can find it under "Utilities" in the installer menu) and execute:

cd /Volumes

cp “iATKOS”/fx_kernel “Macintosh HD”/

Key

+++

“iATKOS” - Name of your USB Drive

“Macintosh HD” - label of partition where you installed OS X.

OR

Windows

——————-

You can download TransMac, open your partition in Windows (You have to enable read/write in TransMac)

Copy your kernel to the root of the partition, then reboot and on your partition boot with “fx_kernel”

As long as the kernel is named differently & in you extra folder. Your chameleon.org file is edited with TextEdit and have the kernel renamed there then you should be good to go in most cases (renaming the kernel here means you don't have to use the boot flag for your kernel). What you can do is a time machine backup try the update and if it fails you can restore using time machine.

The only problem I've had with an iatkos update is when updating to 10.7.5, you normally get a PCI Config Begin error.

Ok i have updated although i just get a white screen when i attempt to boot the only way i can get into the os is to use GraphicsEnabler=No and -x so i figured it was a kext issue but i am not sure what the kext is.

Any ideas?

First try update you Bootloader, then boot with "GraphicsEnabler=Yes AtiConfig="

In AtiConfig try a couple of Framebuffers ie I use Duckweed on my HD6570 so my boot flag is "GraphicsEnabler=Yes AtiConfig=Duckweed"

What I would suggest is putting your device id in the kext "AMD7000Controller" found in /System/Library/Extensions... I think you have to also add it to "AMDRadeonX4000" but I am not 100% sure of that one.

Hi again,

Ok, i have managed to bypass the white screen by booting into safe mode and then adding the device id for my graphics card to the Radeon 7000 series kext. QE/CI still isn't enabled and it still only lets me use 7mb of vram . I have attempted the frame buffer tutorial although the first download link is not avalible and it looks quite hard. Is there just a quick way to get QE/CI and full recognition of all available vram working on my hackintosh?

Ok so i have updated my bootloader and used the flag GraphicsEnabler=Yes but i get a memory allocation error as follows:

Memory allocation error! Addr: 0xdeadbeef, size 0x0, File: ati.c, Line: 1772

This is a non recoverable error! System HALTED!!!

All of my boot flags are: fx_kernel arch=x32_64 GraphicsEnabler=Yes

Do you know what the problem is and how i can fix it?

Which bootloader did you use?

"Chameleon 2.2 svn r2266" from insanelymac's download page?

Another thing you can try is to disable USB legacy in the BIOS, problem is typing in your boot flags...

3nd thing to try, Unplug all your USB's except for your keyboard & mouse (or just have your keyboard plugged in)

I am running Chameleon 2.2 svn r2266 downloaded directly from insanelymac's download page. i have disabled Usb legacy and i still have the same error. I think i know what it may be related to, when i added my graphics card device id to the ati 7000 kext it complained a little later on that it hadn't been configured correctly and that it probably won't work. I believe that because of this, the kext was disabled thus resulting in the white screen going away. I think i may need to repair the kext do you know if i can do this?

p.s. I am using a ps2 keyboard i am not sure if thats a good or a bad thing but i also have a spare usb keyboard if necesery.

To repair kext permissions use the easy tool : Kext Utility found here or with Disk Utility built-in-to Mac OS X which you can use the USB Flash Installer (next time, copy the kext to the desktop then drag into Kext Utility)

Try boot with "UseKernelCache=No -f"

I have managed to get the white screen back and i have tried multiple times and different combinations for fbrotate to work although i don't seem to have any luck . I don't have a secondary grahpics card and my computer doesn't support sleep mode which appears to be the worst possible situation to be in for the white screen problem. Do you know if there is any other way to do it or am i out of luck?

EDIT: I was doing some additional reasearch and some sites seemed to suggest that i could do something with a DSDT file or something and it may fix it, is this correct (i found it here:http://rampagedev.wordpress.com/2012/12/04/about-amd-7970-working-with-full-qe/)
