Very odd, this one. All of the sudden this morning, and for no reason I can discern, Clover's boot partition selector no longer shows up when I turn on my Surface. I reinstalled Clover, rebooted, but it remains gone.

Anyone see this before, or better yet, any ideas on how to fix it?

Never mind, it's back. No idea why but it works now.  :blink:

oh also, are you going to add the bit with getting imessage and facetime working correctly in the guide at the beginning JahStories??  I received the ew-7811un usb wifi and it works great!! Although the blue blinking light is quite obnoxious!! :-)

BTW Do the facetime cameras work correctly on the Surface Pro 1?  Because mine seem to be very high contrast!  (this is all probably in the bug list) sorry I am lazy :-P

also if you havent dont already do you have the link to the bug list on the guide too??

I have put the NullEthernetInjector.kext on the Surface, but it still isn't showing up as an interface to add.  When I look in the about this Mac, it says there are not any ethernet interfaces.  I also tried putting the ssdt file in as ssdt-2.aml and no luck with that.

***Update***

I found the correct KEXT to use, but I am still getting an error about my machine.

Hi!

I have a "SECURITY" concern that is killing me!

We are using generated serial numbers, that some times are the same right? So let's say two guys have the same Serial and using their AppleID, sync their information with iCloud, when you do that, you need to validate the computer, you need to give permissions. So here the question is, aren't we opening the doors for hackers to steal our information? You have all synced based on a serial number!!! I think this is scary and super dangerous, isn't it?

ok so in case anyone else is wondering... to get app store access

1.  I downloaded the above linked zip for nullethernet posted in post #1064.

2. I used kext drop to install the nullethernet.kext from the "release" folder in the zip (while booted without caches + injected kexts)

3. I deleted all connections in system preferences/network

4. I deleted the networkinterfaces.plist from HD/Library/Preferences/System Configuration folder

5. I ran clover Configurator and edited my serial number in the smbios tab to be my actual macbook air's serial number.

5. Rebooted

Now my appstore/imessages is working, although I have no idea if they will stop working like some say.. but so far so good..  hope this helps anyone.

@MetalFishX

it's not an issue, if you are right, it could be possible even with real macs just by knowing the serials...

but i don't think so, apple will not register already used serials and that's one of the things that make many users have troubles accessing iCloud.

Hmm, I hope not. But I used a the default serial and I was able to get into my iCloud, but when I did, I was asked to authorise "this computer" as usual, and I did but the thing is "what is involved into that authorisation?" I guess serial number is primarily needed... It's scaring also because they relate "everything" to the serial number, even for stolen computers Apple Stores and resellers does that, that's the way they use for tracking... So based on that I was thinking about how this affect also with hackers... I don't know, just in case I have deleted my whole iCloud content and nothing is in sync...

I'm pretty sure that the computer's hardware serial is - if at all - only a minor factor in iCloud authentication. I use my iCloud account with five devices on a daily basis (my Mac Pro, Macbook Air, iPhone, iPad, and my first generation Surface) and have no troubles signing in or out of any of them (*). I've also used it on other people's Macs (wife's Macbook, Dad's Macbook Pro), and never had an issue relating to the hardware.

What iCloud looks at is your Apple ID (= email address), the associated password, and - if you've set it up - Apple's two-step verification (link).

(* – Aside from the Surface's problems being recognized as proper Apple hardware, which I've outlined in an earlier post)

@uhoh

Yeah I use two step and I have an iPad, iPhone and another Mac, also my wife does...

I was wondering about this because all the things about the serial number, but I think you're right, It doesn't make sense Apple will use just the serial number to give access to things... I am just a little paranoid about security, and well, it's remarkable how they keep patching security holes (latest one, SSL) ...

Thanks.

Surface Pro 2

FIXED/WORKAROUND: The audio glitches related to the drifting/non syncing sample rate of the ALC3230 can be fixed by using the Akzidenz patched VoodooHDA 2.8.0 from the guide - in combination with installing Soundflower 1.6.6b and by setting up a new multi-output device in Audio/MIDI settings. Make sure you select Soundflower (2ch) as the clock source (right click) and then any other device - including "Speaker (Analog)", "Headphones (Black left) and Airplay - as "resample this sub device". This will give the ALC3230 a proper clock source and fix the problems with external USB-audio, Airplay and pro audio programs like Logic Pro X.

Enjoy your new audio workstation!

@MetalFishX:

For some users, the sample rate trick seems to work. But according to others in the audio forum over here, the problems reappear as the codec slowly drifts out of sync again after 5 minutes or so.

Also, some people don't seem to experience any issues to begin with. Perfect for them of course, but still pretty weird as the install & the hardware are identical.

Did you also check the box "drift correction" on the Speaker (Analog) on the multi-output device in Audio/MIDI Setup? This needs to be checked - and there should be a clock icon on the right of the Soundflower (2ch) and a sine wave on the right of the Speaker (Analog) when the multi-output device is expanded. Then use this new multi-output device as audio output and system sound output.

So, the Soundflower (2ch) device in this setup is actually only used as a clock source. (Both 2ch & 64ch turned off in Soundflowerbed).

(Updated my previous post with a screenshot to clarify.)

Well, anyway, hope it works out!
