[Guide] SurfacePro 1 & 2 Osx-Android-Windows multiboot

I have successfully installed OSX Mavericks 10.9.1 following the Guide in Post#1:  My heartfelt thanks to JahStories. and everyone else who contributed,   I installed OSX as my sole OS no dual or triple booting for me...

But I did some research on the ALC280 codec, and found a fix in linux by people who patched the  ALC265 codec to get it working. So I downloaded a AppleHDA.kext patched for ALC265 to try and patch it.

But I need a linux codec dump from my Surface. I made a bootable live puppy linux on usb, but I cannot seem to boot off it. I hold volume down button on boot, but it goes straight to the clover boot screen.

Any help or suggestions would be gratefully  appreciated.

PS I don't have any problems with Voodoo other then the volume level.

IMPORTANT : DON'T UPDATE TO 10.9.2

I updated to 10.9.2 and my Surface Pro 2 didn't boot anymore.

I think Apple updated the mach_kernel.

EDIT : I tried to copy the modified mach_kernel to the updated 10.9.2 system, but the SF2 won't boot.

I think we also need an updated "FakeSMC.kext"

Surface Pro 2 OSX @JahStories & uhoh

@uhoh & knod

i'm not having that issue with voodoohda, just be sure you updated it to it's latest version.

Thanks for the input JahStories! I used the VoodooHDA which is linked to in the first post under the Surface Pro 2 instructions. I believe it's Akzidentz modified rollback to VoodooHDA 2.8.0. In the thread he's also -prior to that- linked to a modified 2.8.4 version, but as stated in the thread it stutters even more when I try that one. I can't seem to find any later versions.

So, just to get rid of any possible confusion here:

When using Akzidentz 2.8.0 the audio problems are not severe, I can still use audio for common tasks like surfing and Spotify - without any obvious audio glitches. But I also experience more subtle symptoms of a malfunctioning sound driver:

• When using AirPlay to an AppleTV/Airport Express there are short, silent drop outs every two seconds or so. Using any audio source, e.g. Spotify which sounds fine on the internal soundcard.

• System sound effects like alert sounds and the feedback sound from the volume keys are lagging (and are sometimes partially cutoff/muted).

• Any pro audio app will have problems syncing audio to midi, stating that the sample rate suddenly changed. (Which is actually the real bummer here for a musician like me).

• Any external USB-audio device will experience the same type of errors, but the symptoms are actually much worse.

So, if someone maybe hasn't tried any of these more "rare" cases yet, it might seem like the driver/kext is working fine. I'm not saying it's not of course, but it might be the case - and I just want to rule that out.

Everything else is working 100% and my installation is pretty virgin - no other kexts installed besides the ones from the guide. I'm booting OSX off a 64GB, 85Mb/s MicroSD which works perfect. (Just waiting to get my hands on a SanDisk 128GB Ultra microSDXC which was announced last week.)

Thanks again for all your efforts in this thread!

Just hope to get this last piece working,

/knod

@macspike: Thanks for the heads up on 10.9.2!

Hi Everyone,

I've tried to follow the guide (reinstall everything) and use the 10.9.2 image, make changes, updating everything, checking the logs. Nothing works and a lot of errors.

I found other people on other forums who also have problems with 10.9.2

No 10.9.2 on the SF2 for now  :(

Already Surface pro 1 users who have tried to install 10.9.2 ?

10.9.2 is totally safe on the surface pro 1 (sorry for the error :angel_not:  ), without any patching.

i'm updating compatibility on the main post, please report the errors on the sp2 in the "bug" list thanks.

More anecdotal evidence... updated to 10.9.2 via "Apple Menu > Software Update..." a few minutes ago without a hiccup. Took me through some odd set-up procedure (almost like a reinstall), which did *not* happen on any of my 'real' Macs but nothing detrimental from what I can tell. Seems to work the same as before.

@JahStories,

What ended up being the fix for surface1 getting AppleBacklightDisplay instead of AppleDisplay?

I know we went round-and-round with trying to help with brightness on PM and that was the stopping point. Do you know/remember what the fix was?

i don't remember either what was the crucial step...

i'm sure i've added your patch for sandy bridge b/l

and that we are using injected 0x0166004 platform ig on the dsdt.

Could you post an ioreg (v2.1 please)? I'm curious what happened, because I was certain we tried injecting ig-platform-id (and 0004 would have been the one to use because of the 1080p display).

Would be nice to know what made it magically work...

Are you certain it didn't turn out to be a patch to AppleIntelFramebufferCapri?

I am totally impressed, and like to say "thank you" to everyone involved! I bought my surface because of this thread... ;)

Hi. I am wondering if there is a guide to install it on the sdxc-card.

I am stuck here:

I can boot from usb into the sdxc-card-install but it is refusing to install clover (same thing on my install on the partitioned internal...)

I am already on Win8.1, and (if possible) dont want to loose it. (I didn’t wipe the internal yet...do i have to...???)

Is this the thing you mentioned on the youtube vid, "dont update to 8.1"???

Ok, so I have found that when you have your iMessage working fine and then stops working for whatever reason (for me, it was logging into a different wifi, reboot PC, etc), a boot up by hitting space bar on Mac OS and selecting removing cache and injecting kext makes it work again.  So, this makes me think something is not "sticking" on normal boot for iMessage specifically....strange.

Interesting little thing I have seemed to notice. Has anybody had an issue with their wifi WITHOUT an sd card inserted? For some reason, my wifi is much, much slower without one in. When I put it in, its back to normal. Not sure why, its not like my wifi signal strength was any different.

@minimojoman

Edimax EW7811UN is the preferred choice, but anything Mac compatible or that has a driver will work. Google search to make sure your model has at least a driver available.

Realtek 802.11ac (1GigE WiFi)

Realtek RTL8811AU based 802.11ac GigE usb WIFI adapter driver for the Surface Pro.

http://www.osx86.net...1ac-1gige-wifi/

Confirmed LinkSYS WUSB6300 adapter working on my I5 based desktop, (See signature),  with OSX 10.9.2 Mavericks. Link shows all the supported devices for the driver, it is in .pkg installer.

Completed my install on my SurfacePro with the Paid Touch-base drivers, for both the Pen & Gestures, works very good, I calibrated it, configured it to open the virtual keyboard for entering text, and if you type "ink in the search bar in System Preferences, you can set handwriting to "ON".
