CKtalon
@cktalion format the whole drive to guid using disk utility then install osx and if needed install windows 8.1 pro using bootcamp. hmm, alright, thanks. Guess my worst fears are true. Is the only way to do multitouch (3 finger swipes, etc) on the TypeCover 2's trackpad with the TouchBase drivers? Tr0llz
(surface2osx) thx for this awesome guide!!! Got my SP2 with i5-4300u some days ago. Osx 10.9.2 installed but I still have to use the pendrive with clover to boot it. I had formatted my SSD partition in GUID mode but Clover fails to install and i dont know why. any idea? 5c4r7
(surfaceosx) ok, so I got 10.9.2 to install. The 2 things I was doing wrong is using the config and dsdt file that exists on the v0.3 folder and pacifist for whatever reason was trying to extract all the files as opposed to just the mach_kernal. Regardless, I can now boot into the mavericks partition but. when I try to install clover in the mavericks partition it fails on the installation. I also have Windows 8.1 on a separate partition. Any idea why this is happening and how I can get it to install? Thanks,
tyroiii
(surfaceosx) Last night I tried to do a clean install. This time formatting the entire drive and installing just osx. The installation went fine and I was able to boot to 10.9.2. I also installed clover, but I had the washed out screen. So, I changed the dsdt.aml back to V2. Now, it no longer boots. Worst, I can't get the surface to boot from the microsd card or from USB. It always just goes to the clover on SSD. Can I change the dsdt to the one in V3 from the clover screen? flapclock
(surfaceosx) First up, thanks to JahStories and everyone who has contributed to this guide, osx on the surface pro is excellent! I'm having trouble getting v0.3 onto my surface pro. I've managed to get v0.2 + patches on there (booting from SSD), but attempting to install the v0.3 files results in the **** [iOBluetoothHCIController][searchForTransportEventTimeOutHandler] -- Missing Bluetooth Controller Transport! error that others have seen. I've narrowed this down to the appleintelframebuffercapri.kext (I can push the other kext, config.plist and dsdt - although the dsdt results in video distortion). I'm currently on Mavericks 1.9 without updates - is there a sequence that I'm missing here? Should I update to 1.9.2 before applying the v0.3 patches? I've tried (I think) to put the video id (0x1660009) as mentioned by CKtalon but this doesn't seem to do anything - not sure I'm doing it correctly though. I also edited the config.plist directly to no avail. Interestingly, once I have installed the appleintelframebuffercapri.kext file I can't roll back to a working state - deleting the kext from /S/L/E/ still results in the IOBluetoothHCIController error mentioned above. I'm also not sure that I've been generating the serial correctly in CloverConfigurator. I've opened the dsdt (v0.3) used the wizard to generate for Macbookair5,2, copied all data and then overwritten the dsdt. Is this the correct process? Thanks for any help! agunghost
(SurfacePro1) @Flapclock Hi Flapclock, I also encountered similiar problem, stuck at missing bluetooth controller. In my case, I just repartition SSD to acomodate 1 HFS+ partition, not a clean install. I'm using version 2 and then inject kext from version 3. I've read from other thread, it's related with video so that I move all mv AppleIntelHD* AppleIntelF* to specific folder (just in case something went wrong). Then I boot without cache and with injected kext. And it's working. However, it's not working right, so I push AppleIntelHD4000* and its friend back to extension folder (S/L/E). Graphic much more smoothly but It's still not correct because I cannot play video with quicktime. Video can run smoothly with VLC.....but the big problem is....there's no sound.... So, Does anybody here have any solution for me? I've tried using VoodooHDA for Surfacepro2, but the audio still not working....
tyroiii
(surfaceosx) @caleidosCope - thanks. It didn't seem to work. I managed to use the windows 8 usb key and used command prompt to format the first partition. Then it seemed to work. Odd. I still have the problem with the washed out display. I didn't have the problem when I installed osx onto the surface with the windows partition intact. It only started to happen after I wiped the entire disk. Any suggestions what I can try? I tried to change the platform id (found in one of the post here) and that didn't seem to work.
munakib
I found a solution to get Audio (audio and mic) to work on the Surface Pro 2. I used the VoodooHDA 2.8.0 (provided by akzidenz) - I add the kext with this post. The problem is that you have to installed it right and a good way to do this is with the latest Kext Utility 2.5.6 (added with this post) Kext Utility cleans up your extensions and repairs the permissions. Follow these steps : 1. Remove AppleHDA.kext (of course, backup for later purposes) and remove your VoodooHDA.kext out of System/Library/Extensions 2. Copy VoodooHDA.prefPane (provided with this post) to System/Library/PreferencePanes 3. Open Kext Utility and type your administration password. (It starts to repair the permissions of the current extensions and updating the system caches, wait until it's finished) (It can take a while - about 2 minutes) When it says : "All done, Have a nice ... day), you can proceed 4. Drag the attached VoodooHDA.kext on the window of Kext Utility (it will ask again for your administrator password) 5. When this is finished, restart your Surface Pro 2 (boot up without caches and injected Kexts) 6. Go to your System Preferences and choose Sound 7. Make sure that the "Speaker(Analog)" is selected (in the Output-Tab) 8. Try your Sound Effects (make sure the Output Volume is up) Enjoy the music ... :-) Audio Files Pack Did you try that? Thats how most of us SP2 users got our sound to work. (SurfacePro1) @Flapclock Hi Flapclock, I also encountered similiar problem, stuck at missing bluetooth controller. rdflynn
Quick question - do you *always* have to boot using the "with injected kexts and no cache" option in Clover? If so, is there a way to make this the default boot setting so that e.g. I could restart the machine and it boots directly into OS X *correctly* (unlike if I reboot ATM where it boots using no boot options and therefore does not load the Voodoo fix for audio). I know it's something to do with the config.plist file and I have tried using Clover Config but it corrupts the plist files on write, which is not the best outcome... munakib
No, you only boot with injected kexts and no cache when you installed/updated a new kext, otherwise just start osx directly. You can edit the config plist manually using textedit, its very simple - take a look. Quick question - do you *always* have to boot using the "with injected kexts and no cache" option in Clover? tyroiii
(surfaceosx) I installed the stable touch-base trial driver. I'm still waiting for the rest of the group to pay to get the licensed one. The pen works, but I can't seem to get the gestures to work. When I touch the screen with my finger, the cursor moves to the top left corner. Is this something that will get fixed with the licensed version? Or am I doing something wrong? I was able to get the HiDPI working with switchresx, but wanted to find a free solution. I found this article, http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/290097-guide-add-your-custom-retina-hidpi-resolution-for-your-desktop-display/, but when I add the resolution for the 768 HiDPI, it doesn't show on the display preference. Under the display override directory, there was already a file for my display, so I added 00000AAC 00000600 00000001. I also tried 00000AAC 00000600 00000009 00A00000, there was HiDPI at 960x540 that had the trail 8 bytes, so I gave it a try. Any suggestions? Frank Pacheco
@ tyroiii Did you try and open UPPD console in the System Preferences and choose either the pen or the digitizer from the drop down menu, and calibrate?
caleidosCope
@tyroiii: Fine! I had switchresx problems too, i wanted to try (in my way it means to get a cracked app)... . Buying a (cheap) license solved my problem. (A free solution is not in my sight... stick with switchresx, give your money to the developer, and save precious time ). As Frank P. stated, calibrating BOTH will fix the issue. Your washed out screen is crazy. Did you try kextstat (terminal) and checked whats realy loaded?! Especially anything that’s grfx and not intel-kext. Will this happen if you boot by your usb-stick too? I am still hanging on an odd ?bug?. 5 boots out of 10, my sound is messed up, switchresx messed up, sluggish mouse, booting takes up to 45 Sec and more. On the other hand, boot is about 15 sec., everithing works fine (sometimes crashing uddp-driver, or crashing the typecover2 keyboard - but not the big deal - I hope for the "endversion" of the touchbase drivers) BTW will Dave will inform us about updates? I figured out, if i boot to the first "surface" screen, shut down an reboot again, OSX works perfect. I think my problem is a shutdown problem, after that my boot is corrupted or good... it depends... "On What"???? - Is there a way to "debug" the shutdown process??? I read in earlier post, someone here had similar problems... how did you fix?? @ Frank P. : your main machine... is a mean machine @Tr0llz: your Nick in combination with your "mini"-information... is strange... what did you do? How did you format your disk? was it "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" and did you choose "Option-->GUID"? Did you follow the guide exactly, as stated on page 1? Tr0llz
@caleidosCope: I followed the guide exactly, 2 times. file system and partition map are HFS+ (mac os extended (journaled)) and GUID. idk what to do. ask me everything u need. thx
caleidosCope
@Tr0llz: hmmm... i am a Surface1-user... so i am not the "best" help for you. I had the same problems, trying to install OSX on the SDXC-card, after that i shrunk my win8- partition, created a new for OSX - but still Clover refused to install. After that i wiped my disk, and clover installed. -Have you been in "bios" - disabled safe-boot (or what it is called...)? (silly question, i know... but horses vomit! ) -Format your Disk to something other, then back again to MacOSExt.Journaled... -Double check that you dont left any other EFI partition on the drive (maybe some other tool to format your disk?) -Which clover version? Try the newest/an old one.... ....
tyroiii
@Frank P I used the UPDD Console, but do not see the digitizer. I only see the pen option on the drop down (well, the drop down is disabled but I see the arrow). @caleidosCope I hear you about just paying for it... The thing with switchresx is that it looks like it's runs a daemon for the HiDPI to work. It just seem to me unnecessary if osx can handle this natively. caleidosCope
@tyroii: if you got the time to figure out how this works... i will apreciate it!!! but is it worth, if there is a solution? ... think about "switching back" to the nativ resolution (thinking about mixing in Logic...), and for that switchresx is supersweet. Sweeter than opening "System" ...an so on. And it is worth the cents, if i can buy yourself a surface, a touch driver (and seriously ... you'll need it - formfactor get its tolls) - so the 14€ ... hm... my grandpa would say 2 gramms of dope... - goodN8 BTW: @JahStories: You made my dream come true!!! I was dreaming this since i had a runing Leo on my ancient Acer Travelmate C301 xmi Tablet, with working wacom pen... now 13 years ago (OK Leo is younger, but Windows Xp-Tablet showed what could be...) ... and then a peek of OSX on this machine (was not functional at all... no "vanilla" ...but it worked somehow...). wow. Now this is the formfactor and OS what i was looking for... incredible. Thanks. My son (now owns my MacAir 10") ... is a little jeallous... just a little... (about Win8.1 ... ) It’s a jawdrop if you do a keynote presentation and your oneNotes thing and LogicX on ONE machine did you see the Kickstarter? BenjaminLSR
Hello, Thanks to all of you, I successfully installed OSX on a SanDisk SDSDQX-064G-U46A Extreme Plus. It runs smoothly (even if booting on the microSD on the surface pro 2 is one chance on five...). I'm using touch-base drivers but I have to admit we do need a better virtual/"touch" keyboard as the default one is cheap, I can't even use any SHIFT button on the virtual keyboard using my fingers (as a FRENCH AZERTY user, it means I can't use the " . " ...) - Do we have another virtual keyboard that could be used by default and pop out when we click on a text field ? - Is there any chance to see the default WIFI/BLUETOOTH driver coming to OSX ? I mean, has it ever happened that such driver had finally been released ?
5c4r7
(surfaceosx) OK, so... In order to install clover into the mavericks partition I need to wipe the entire partition and format as GUID? How do I put Windows 8.1 back on then? Bootcamp? Basically, my goal would be to have OS 10.9.2 and Windows 8.1 on the SSD and possibly Android on the micro SD card with the ability to boot into any of them. Also, have the touch features work on all of them would be key. Is this possible? The main thing I would like to avoid is carrying a USB for the bootloader. Could we modify the instructions to explain this? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Tr0llz
(surface2osx) @caleidosCope: safeboot is disabled just wiped my disk again (this is the 3rd try). - Formatted to FAT, then back to MacOSExtended journaled, tried to install clover v.2636 on the ssd but still fails (same version I used to boot from pen drive, created on MacMini). If I try to install clover on another pen drive (on the SP2) the installation fails - There is a EFI partition on the SSD
JahStories
@BenjaminLSR try virtual keyboard from corallosoft. @Trollz (surface2osx) UPDATE YOUR SIGNATURE AND USE THE BADGES. unplug sdcard. try to mount the efi partition try again to install the latest ver. of clover if it doesn't work, try to format the whole drive and install again cause you are probably doing something wrong.
