Darth Erdix
Hi, I have installed OS X so far on my laptop. But I have still some problems. 1. I can only boot Mac OS X when a second monitor is attached. 2. When booting Mac OS X was successfull on my laptopdisplay the picture is very weak (such as the display backlight is not turned on) on the second monitor everything is perfect. Has somebody already dealed or even has a solution for that? When booting Windows there are no problems with the backlight on the laptopdisplay. Darth Erdix
I already booted without an external monitor and also checked brightness. Still the same. When booting and the apple symbol appears the backlight is turned on. But when the OS is loaded then the backlight is turned off. I installed the Version 10.4.7. Grafic onboard chip Intel 915GM. Do you need more details? Maybe you can tell me what info especially you need? Darth Erdix
Hello at all, I still didn´t fixed the mentioned problem. Could it be that the grafik drivers causes that problem? Can it be fixed by installing another compatible driver? Thanx at all Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/28787-backlight-on-my-notebookdisplay-doesn%C2%B4t-work/#findComment-203472 Share on other sites

Darth Erdix
Thanks Pedro but the booting issue is already solved by changing to external Monitor and back to laptopdisplay when Apple and spinning circle appear on display. The main problem I have still persist: Booting is OK but when it changes from the white screen with Apple and the spinning circle to the Desktop (OS is fully loaded) then the desktop can be seen but very weakly because the backlight of the display is somehow deactivated. When booting XP there is no problem. I still cannot handle it. Darth Erdix
Hello again, I am still desperatly searching for a solution for that display backup problem. I could observe something new. When I set Mac to sleep mode I get for an little instant (less than a second) the backlight on. But then off again immediatly. Maybe it could be a kext which has to be deleted. I am near the solution but I still cannot find the bug. wondergod
buy a flashlight.... heh when you installed did you use the gma900 support option? also I know it was previously mentioned but the paperclip hack may work..it looks like you just ignored and said you had another monitor so you can boot normally... Darth Erdix
the gma900 support option was selected when installing OS X86 it seems that this is an individual problem.... booting without an external monitor works. so it is not the paperclip issue. the problem is that after the as soon as the OS is loaded the backlight of my laptopdisplay is immediately set off... I don´t know why When booting Win XP there is no problem so it could only be a driver or software problem. The same effect occured when installing OS X86. As soon as the first picture (where to choose the language) appears backlight is set off. I could only work through an external monitor but there all can be seen and all functions work perfectly. At the moment I have a perfect working OS X86 and Win XP. The only problem is that f***ing backlight issue. wondergod
i understand booting with an external monitor works...however if you use a loopback in the monitor jack it may cause no extra data which is power to used by it in turn causing the lcd to stay bright.... are there any bios adjustments for your vid card...also i'd check the power mangement section because most laptop monitors do that when its low on battery so maybe OSx86 is having trouble querying your power features....you can try fiddlin' around with the power managment features in your bios... Darth Erdix
Already changed many possible settings in the BIOS. But still no joy. At the moment I am pretty helpless. Could only explain it to me as an uncompatibility. elmar
try just, when loading, to press Fn + F4 (I think) to "switch" between monitors(don't connect any external monitor). P.S. Could you tell me if it works.
