Lejenk> As much as I appreciate your guide, I too would appreciate any further help with getting both my trackpad and keyboard to work.  I've attached the driver that best works with my Inspiron 5720.  Thank you!

Hi dawntodon,

This is a topic for the 7720, i do not have a lot of time, did some edits on the controllers, but i have no clue, sorry. Could work for your notebook, but it broke my trackpad and keyboard, so i think it does not work for you also, because 1 of them should have worked on my system.

My Pandora ISO is 4.93 gb. Currently when I run the installer it pickups NO Hard drive when I said screw it and burned that ISo to my 4.7gb dvd and then using a cloned USB drive from my virtual machine. Now I just have to get the right blend of kexts. I'm not installing clover till I get the right blend or should I install clover? It appears that even sofar my eithernet does not work, but that might a faulty cable on my end

Hi Coasterghost,

The ethernet, it could be due to the settings, check this: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/files/file/55-realtek-8105e/

Only the description, not the kexts.

@styrian:

Thank you for your input, but the 650m will not work in OS X. This is because of the dual graphics. The Intel HD4000 is our primary controller, and we can not disable it in the bios. This is why we have to disable the card. OS X does not support switching between graphic cards, at least, not on notebooks.

I just noticed, you have changed the model from GTX 650m to GT 650m, there is a difference between the two cards :)

Lejenk, let me first just say THANK YOU!  I am a geek of sorts and have been doing computer work for 20 years, but I ran into a problem last night when I upgraded to 10.8.5 on one of my 3 7720's ...  no USB 3.0 port is working anymore.

Please help if you can, I would greatly appreciate it.  I must admit though that I wouldn't have made it this far without THIS thread, so thank you again and thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

I'm sticking with 10.8.4 on my other two until we figure this one out for sure.

Update:  Never mind, I re-registered those kext files for the USB ports this morning yet again and they started working just fine.  This is something that I didn't have to do to go from 10.8.3 to 10.8.4, so anyways, problem solved.

Hi,

I have not installed 10.8.5 yet, it's not available in software update yet, and i only have one system.

Just for the reference, the USB 3.0 ports should work on OSX default. Only USB 2.0 compatibility will not. Is that what you where talking about?

Please explain the steps also, i'm short on time atm.

Thank you.

Hello,

10.8.5 didn't recognize any of my USB 2.0 devices, I have not tried USB 3.0 devices on those ports though, so I'm not sure if they work OOB.

I used Kext Wizard to install your modified USB kexts and the USB 2.0 devices now work just fine.  I have an Atheros Killer 1202 WiFi + BT 4.0 card internally and use a D-Link DWA-131 for my MAC OS's WiFi, so I MUST have USB 2.0 connectivity.

Otherwise, 10.8.5 steps for upgrading are the normal:  Install 10.8.5, before rebooting the machine, delete all GeForce kexts, rebuild, reboot.

RUNS GREAT!

Thanks again!

Now i am on Mavericks :-)) most works fine: I used MyHack to create an USB Stick with the downloaded Installtions Files.

I only modified the USB Kext to boot :-) after boot Problems i used the USB 2.0 Kext which helped me with my ML installtion.

I removed from the Stick IOUSB.kext and IOUSBFamily.kext in the Folder System/Library/Extentions/ and copied the USB 2.0

to that location. I installed Mavericks over the ML installation, no clean install, so the drivers are working fine :-)

I only installed Sound Kext and need PowerManagement Kext because Battery Symbol is shown but doesn't show the battery level.

Webcam doesn't work need to find out what Kext must be installed :-( My Edimax Nano Wifi Dongle works great. Sleep hangs need

to install some kext.

You should make an own topic for your request in section Notebooks and discribe there, which problems you have by doing an install on your device.

Please put your hardware in your signature, like many others have done here. You should get then easier proper support.

Have fun.

Hi everybody !

I eventually reinstalled OSX on my computer and almost everything works !

Here is my Geekbench score , I don't know if it's good or not : http://browser.primatelabs.com/geekbench3/500246

The only things that doesn't work are HDMI or VGA output, sleep/wake, shutdown/reboot (I have to press the power button), subwoofer, changing brightness with keyboard and battery icon (and of course GT650m)

Did someone managed to solve my problems above on Mavericks 10.9.2 ? I'm using Clover EFI, Lejenk's DSDT and I followed @miha77 tutorial here http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/295272-guide-dell-inspiron-17r-7720-se-mac-os-x-mavericks-1091/

@Lejenk, are you still on Mountain Lion or did you update to Mavericks ?

Thanks

Hi ThibaultAnd

this is thanks to niresh... http://www.niresh12495.com/files/file/133-enable-hdmi-on-intel-hd-4000-109-mavericks-only/

in order to use both laptop screen and hdmi

Good luck!!

Thank you @satyamo it worked :)

By the way I have few problems : I can't reboot properly : the OS actually shutdowns but I have to press the power button to power off the laptop. Then, the other problem is the sound : it gets distored sometimes and also got various glitches (no sounds from youtube sometimes for instance). And last I don't have sleep mode nor battery indicator.

Can you help me, or simply give me the correct kext if you have the same model (7720 non 3D) ?

By the way, I have managed to get subwoofer working, but with Voodoo HDA only and it's independant from the speakers... I'll stick with AppleHDA but I will upload kexts when I have time ;)

did you upgrade from mountain lion or make a clean install ? And did you use the same kext you posted on the first link ?

I found people who has subwoofer working with AppleHDA thanks to a tutorial, I will post the link later as I don't have time right now.

I did a clean install, and used the files from the first post. Mavericks needs some patching to use the kexts, can't remember what is was though.

I just installed the latest Maverick version using the initial guide even though it was geared towards 10.8 and it went surprisingly well. I used Pandora to create a 10.9 install USB, added the patches and kext from the USB.zip, etc

I assume that in step 4 the green kexts are mandatory, orange optional, and red no longer necessary (as they were part of the USB.zip)

However there are few things that didn't work out for me:

- can't install the Realtek kext from the Realtek website, so I have no networking at all (I didn't replace the WiFi yet)

- the Clover bootloader only shows a black screen, also when a second monitor is attached

- Maverick nags about IOUSB....kext not being correct

Anybody any suggestions of getting the Realtek card working? I'm sort of a newby with this, used iATKOS couple of years ago on a prev Mac, but that is it.

Hello!

You have to do manual settings in the networkpreferences of OSX to get the kext working (crappy Dell hardware implementation). What to do, is in one of the posts near the beginning of the thread and discirbed by LeJenk. You could also try the version of Realtek.kext developed by Slice ( http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/286937-realtekr1000-v3/f ) or the one by Mieze ( http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/files/file/259-realtekrtl8100-binary/ )

Have fun.

Found HDMI connection parameters for 7720 (17R) and connected to QNIX QX2710 DP Multi TRUE10 Matte (see 2560x1440monitor.com) in full resolution on Mountain Lion 10.8.5.

Took some time. First I switched to 03 00 66 01 block in AppleIntelFramebufferCapri using DSDT editing (Lejenk mentioned the change somewhere up the stream), changed the block as recommended (see http://forum.osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/2945-guide-for-enabling-vga-and-hdmi-in-intel-hd4000-gpu/)  and fixed this block according to LeJenk to make the laptop screen work.

This is how the 03 block looked like in Hex Fiend:

03 00 66 01 01 02 04 02 00 00 00 04
00 00 00 01 00 00 00 20 10 07 00 00
10 07 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
05 03 00 00 02 00 00 00 30 02 00 00
06 02 00 00 00 01 00 00 09 00 00 00
03 04 00 00 00 08 00 00 81 00 00 00
04 06 00 00 00 08 00 00 81 00 00 00

This change did not cure the problem. So after all internet reading on DSDT I tried in desperation different patches somehow mentioning HD4000 and one of the patches suddenly made possible to start on HDMI connected monitor (but laptop monitor did not run). The patch referred to 0A 00 66 01 entry in AppleIntelFramebufferCapri. That meant connection was provided by one of the entries in the byte block 0A. So I reverted DSDT to Lejenk (with only change to 03 instead of 04) and started replacing one by one byte sequences from 0A 00 66 01 to 03 00 66 01 block. The 0A block in Capri looked like:

0A 00 66 01 00 02 03 02 00 00 00 02
00 00 00 01 00 00 00 20 10 07 00 00
10 07 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
02 05 00 00 00 04 00 00 07 01 00 00
03 04 00 00 00 04 00 00 07 01 00 00
04 06 00 00 00 08 00 00 06 00 00 00

The third attempt with 02 05 00 00 00 04 00 00 07 01 00 00 stroke gold. Now both laptop and HDMI monitors worked. My 03 block now looks like:

03 00 66 01 01 02 04 02 00 00 00 04
00 00 00 01 00 00 00 20 10 07 00 00
10 07 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
05 03 00 00 02 00 00 00 30 02 00 00
02 05 00 00 00 04 00 00 07 01 00 00
03 04 00 00 00 04 00 00 07 01 00 00
04 06 00 00 00 08 00 00 06 00 00 00

This fixed the connection. Not the end of the story. I don't know what Apple guys smoke but HDMI is restricted by 165MHz. Means no better resolution than 1920x1200. My goal was 2560x1440. So I searched and found https://code.google.com/p/mac-pixel-clock-patch/wiki/Documentation - worked.

Also spend some time creating proper Display override for the monitor, as OS X thinks that the monitor is TV (Apple logic is simple - HDMI means TV) and only suggests 1080p or 1080i.

I suppose EDID editing to connect 2560x1440 through HDMI in full glory is a topic for another forum branch.
