WhatTheTech
Does anyone know how to remove the G5/Mac Pro power button? I would prefer not to break it, so a non-destructive way would be top notch! I'm assuming that the metal ring is keeping it in place, but I'm trying to figure out how to remove it without breaking it. Feel free to take the image below and edit it to point out how! Baudouin
Indeed, the ring is keeping everything together. You must pull the ring out by making it turn around out of the metal circle. All the parts come out then. Baudouin
I am busy to write an How-to about it. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/286485-discussion-of-how-to-remove-the-g5macpro-case-power-button-assembly/#findComment-1898227 Share on other sites
WhatTheTech
That's great news! I got it off in the end, it's important to point out that you don't have to worry about damaging the PCB since it's not electronic. The only things you have to mind are the solder points, but I ended up using a knife to push the metal ring around, scratching the PCB but causing no damage. Getting it back on was equally as tricky, but I managed in the end! 1 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/286485-discussion-of-how-to-remove-the-g5macpro-case-power-button-assembly/#findComment-1898346 Share on other sites
3.14r2
I'd do that like this: 1. Turn the ring that holds all the parts using a spudger or a screwdriver 2. Using thin-ended pliers, squeeze the ring to remove it Please excuse my quick and dirty Photoshop 3 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/286485-discussion-of-how-to-remove-the-g5macpro-case-power-button-assembly/#findComment-1898416 Share on other sites

Baudouin
Lemme know when that post has been edited so I can pin it! Wil pm you when ready. Thanks . In the meantime, this old not yet How-to can be added, it start @post 708: http://www.insanelym...e/page__st__708 -----reposted below----- Here some pix, difficult to do inside the case because of the brightness, I took the pix with the removed parts on the table . Left of the green panel, the light grey spot is the open circle which maintains the panel in place. Right of the green panel, the bright grey spot is the metal piece under the green panel which maintains the button in place. Once the panel button out, you will see the metal keeping the button in place and underneath the button itself Now you only have to put back the parts in the other case in the reverse order. I use this to extract the parts : Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/286485-discussion-of-how-to-remove-the-g5macpro-case-power-button-assembly/#findComment-1898573 Share on other sites
dj-dc
I know this isn't a recent topic but I hope someone can help me out. I've seem to have lost the circlip which holds the power button in place. does anyone know what size it is ? and perhaps where I could buy one ? or even where to buy a used power button ? we love macs sells a kit which has the part I need but I think 69.99 is a bit expensive. http://www.welovemacs.com/0761200.html Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/286485-discussion-of-how-to-remove-the-g5macpro-case-power-button-assembly/#findComment-2098530 Share on other sites
Mr.D.
I have had luck at auto-parts stores finding obscure c-clips and what not. Sounds odd, but head down to Autozone and give them a look-see.
