Hi, i've been running this motherboard for quite a long time now with a GTX 970 and before that with a GTX 760. But now i decided to go with a RX 590 because of the mojave drivers.

But when i plugged in the card (hackintosh aside) i can't seem to get output video from the card. The thing is when it boots, it goes straight to windows, but i don't get any video out of the gpu. When i plug my hdmi to my onboard, i get video, but when i try to install the drivers, it says that it doesn't detect any amd graphics card.

I tried plug in the gpu with two different cables, one dedicated for the 6+2pin, and the other one for the 6 pin, but it still does the same. I also tried both pcie slots.

I also tried it in my friends computer and it worked. So i know the gpu works fine and now i'm thinking that the psu may not deliver enough power. As i said i'm running a Seasonic m12ii 620w and my friend is running a evga 600b 80 plus. So, if he can run it with 600w i'm thinking that i should be able to run it with my 620w, right? (I know that it's not exactly like that, but that was my first guess)

I don't know what else to try right now. Any help is really appreciated, thanks.

If i flash this firm, can i still run windows normally?

What BIOS are you running? Are you dual-booting?

Yes, i'm dual booting. I'm more interested in windows than hackintosh.

Right now, i went ahead and installed this H20 firmware  I'm able to run windows, but i still can't make my RX 590 boot.

Edit: I saw there this ozmosis bios that was released two months ago. Do you think with that bios i would be able to make it work?

The XMAX-E BIOS works fine with dual booting W7 (EFI) and W10 (UEFI).

Some ideas you may already have tried:

In the BIOS (Advanced/Thermal & Cooling), you can check voltages to see if any are below spec and elsewhere that Graphics options are set correctly. A failing PSU could be out of spec.

You can disconnect all unnecessary internal devices (HDDs and DVDs) to reduce power loading to test if it works with just motherboad, video card, boot disk

Check you defaults.plist in EFI for disableatiinjection option.

If your video card has multiple outputs, try all outputs for signal if adaptors/cables available. ozmosis I think needs screen in port 0. Find by trial and error.

Good luck!

I don't know what voltage are between the specs, maybe i could take a screenshot with the gtx 970 and the rx 590 and send it to you?

Yeah, the psu works fine, i tried in my friends computer, both psu and gpu and they work fine.

Do i need to fiddle around the plist if i'm only running windows for now?

Has anyone updated to 10.14.4 ?

Well, I tried to update and always gave me an error (Error_7E7AAA96CA), so I downloaded the installer and did a clean installation without any problem.

Hi!

I’ve bought a RX570 to be able to update to 10.14.4. But I just get a black screen and freeze when I boot from a macOS USB installer, can you please share your settings? Bios, Efi, defaults, etc?

I’m pulling my hair here... :(

Hi! I used a preinstalled system 10.14.5 and could not proceed (blind screen after fruit logo)
Finally, succeeded by adding the following options to Defaults.plist (It is possible that only some of them are directly necessary).

Z77MX-QUO-AOS@167X-XMAX-E
i7-3770k
32GB RAM
RX580 Sapphire

Thanks, I tried with those settings but I still can’t boot.

I got it to boot at one point, earlier, but then I got ”An error occurred while verifying firmware” while installing.

Sometimes the bios locks up when certain ssd’s are connected, and sometimes not. It feels extremely random.

Can you please show me your bios settings? Especially “System” and “Peripherals”?

Edit: did you use Lilu and Whatevergreen?

The correct syntax is nv_disable=1

This indicates that BIOSDate and BIOSVersion are below the 'Apple Firmware', the values depends on which Mac you are pretending to be

Nothing special - no WEG or Lilu.

The only change - I added TrimEnabler.kext to /Library/Extensions to achieve TRIM suport.

Maybe it's helpful - added EFI (+BIOS picts) what I'm currently using (just add your serials). Bluetooth/WiFi-PCI adaptor with BCM9430CD. So far, all stable, sometimes the mouse does not wake up

(when I wake the system through USB device).

Yes, I used nv_disable=1.

I wonder if I can add that to boot-args in defaults instead?

Ok, I tried with the defaults posted above and updated values from clover configurator.

I will post Defaults again when I'm home.

Thank you!

I apparently remembered wrong, I meant "BIOS Features" and not System... :S

These settings look pretty much like optimized defaults, I have followed the instruction from the wiki and tried changing stuff with init first GPU and UEFI/Legacy for iGPU, but that info might not be applicable anymore.

If I remember correctly, yes, I used BIOS optimized defaults + modified memory profile setting. Just in case I made Command-Option-P-R and PRAM reset procedures at the beginning.

Also works with two 4K displays, both 3840 x 2160@60 Hz, DP

I'm comparing Defaults.plist now and I see that you have:

	<key>BiosDate</key>
	<integer>0</integer>

I'm pretty sure it should be "Date" instead of "BiosDate". It makes me wonder how much that value really matters...

I didn't have:

	<key>EfiVersion</key>
	<string>281.0.0.0.0</string>

So I added that.

I also had my "FirmwareFeaturesMask" as a string, so I added your integer instead.

Lets see how it goes...

You are right, usually it should be only Date
Somewhere I have taken it, it seems to work in this BiosDate form as well :)

I've tried several Default.plist variants, this variation seemed to work fine with 10.14.5

I keep my fingers crossed - I hope you will succeed! :)

You must use the latest rom posted by IronManJFF at the top of this page and a plist actualized to the last firmware ( several pages back I posted one with macmini8,1 configuration ) you could integrate the plist on the rom or use it in the Oz EFI folder, obtain the serial number with clover configurator. Good luck

Success! :thumbsup_anim: Thank you!

I have been trying with different BIOS settings according to how it was supposed to be set back in the days, obviously, it does not work anymore. This combined with different defaults just made too many combinations to get sorted.

I'm just wondering about the internal GFX, do you have it activated? Because for me with AUTO, it is disabled.

Yes, it seems to be my BIOS settings that made this upgrade way harder than it actually was...

Thanks to everyone helping me! And a special thank you to IronManJFF for the BIOS! :D

Congratulations!!!

Unfortunately, I do not see that IGPU works (10.4.5).

IGPU info missing in iStat menus or elsewhere - it doesn't seem to work.

When I change the BIOS settings Internal Graphics -> Enabled (Instead of Auto), I can't boot (showing logo and stopping there, no progress bar etc)

It has always been BiosDate (unless it has changed with the latest update), it matters when validating firmware .. if the value is below the installer will attempt to update your firmware because it thinks you need it in order to install or upgrade your system. And it will keep failing to apply because you are not a real Mac

If anyone is curious about this issue, i had to replace the motherboard. It seems that it doesn't work with newer graphics card. The newest card that it worked for me it was a GTX 970. I'm guessing that anything newer than a GTX 10XX or RX 5XX won't work. But i don't really know.

From what I gather it should be possible to use HD4000 with Mojave. MacBookPro 10,2 uses HD4000 and is Mojave ready... but then I am still on High Sierra 'cause I don't feel like spending money to get a new card to replace my GTX 970 to get new emoji.

MIght have to put Lilu and WhateverGreen to the mix to make it work.

  • 4 weeks later...

I recently installed Sapphire Nitro RX580 card, and then experienced significant slow downs and freezes, especially when using Photos.

I didn't make the connection with the RX580 card and the issue right away.  I have a large Photos library (500gb) and first performed repair of Photos library, and even recreated the Library (and imported the master images). Then I reformatted the startup drive with clean install of High Sierra, but still had issues with slow down and freezing.  Finally, after I pulled the RX580 card and used integrated graphics again, the computer was back to its stable self.

I found reported cases of freezing with this card and Photos which was related to mediaanalysisd in background with fix using the following:

sudo rm /System/Library/LaunchAgents/com.apple.mediaanalysisd.plist"

Others stated resolution with upgrade to Mojave.  I tried updating to Mojave, but got stuck mid-install due to my inability to add disable_nvflags=1 option to  fsx:\macos Install Data\Locked Files\Boot Files\com.apple.boot.plist.  So for now I am still using High Sierra.

Anyone else experience similar issues with this card?

I had the same problem of getting a black screen after booting Mojave installer USB.  What specific BIOS changes did you have to make for the Mojave installer to work?
