OS X compatible motherboard -> QUO

Using Clover defeats this motherboard purpose

You need to

1) Upgrade BIOS to El Cap compatible version (H2N.1669M or H2O.XMAS)

2) Prepare/Edit Defaults.plist to disable SIP (required for El Cap)

3) Ugrade OS X like you would on a real Mac

In the video you linked at 2:08 you can see the BIOS version, what version are you currently on ?

OK, it means it is loading OS X by using either Chameleon or Clover or some UEFI trick ... we wanna figure out which so we can retrieve the System Definition that is used and its 'serial number'. I an not really familiar with the Cloud suite..Do you have any software tied to the serial number of your 'Hack' ?

Choosing between a 'fresh install' and an upgrade is more a matter of your personal tolerance..  not importing any quirks vs having to re-install/migrate all apps back ...

There is a couple of steps I would like you to do

1) Open a Terminal window and execute the following command and paste the output

diskutil list

2) If you have a spare disk take a TimeMachine backup if you don't already have one (even if you have a CCC backup)

* you don't need these below if you decide to go the 'fresh install route'*

3) Check the 'About this Mac', does it believe it is a Mac Pro, an iMac or something else

4) Assuming your boot disk is named 'Macintosh HD', is there a Extra or EFI folder at the root level of 'Macintosh HD' ?

5) When booting do you get a screen to pick the OS to boot ? if so a simple pic will tell us what 'boot loader' is used, if not you can try the following

   i) Boot while holding F10 (normally that would invoke Chameleon boot picker)

ii) Boot while holding the spacebar (would invoke Clover boot picker if autoboot is on)

Thanks for the help.

OK looks like I was wrong on BIOS, it is in fact 277MX.QUO.AOS.H3A.1307271205

1) the results are the following, the boot disk is an SSD, have a 2GB data drive, and 3 3TB internals in a software RAID, then a GSpeed ES Pro via a SAS adapter into the thunderbolt port.

2) OK, haven't done a time machine backup, but that can be done.

3) MacPro early 2008

4) it isn't named Macintosh HD, and no it doesn't have an Extra or EFI folder at the root level. The only thing I have have noticed, is that it has a QUO audio installer pkg on the desktop.

5) no Boot picker, and if I hit delete on the QUO Screen I get the BIOS.

That is good news, you already have Ozmosis albeit it is a pretty old version.

It should be straightforward..

Use DiskUtility to mount the EFI partition, in Finder look into that partition and see if you have a QUO folder, if so look to see if you have any file at the root level of the QUO folder (it is probbly empty but wanna make sure) then unmount the EFI partition ( it is important to unmount it before Logout/Shutdown)

If empty the next step would be to flash with the current BIOS and reboot in to OS X 10.8.5 (you want to make sure you have a working setup before upgrading to El Cap)

Hmm, I am looking at Disk Utility, and at the SSD drive, and I don't see a separate EFI partition, just the Macintosh HD. I also don't see it as listed in the Terminal under Volumes.

Hi guys,

I'm experiencing troubles with booting on a thumb drive (Yosemite 10.10.5), whatever bios version (H3B.894, H3C.1479, 1669M...)

The apple logo appears, but at the half of the progress bar, the system reboots every time.

I tried both on hdmi, display port of the motherboard and my gtx 980, but it simply does not boot.

Any idea ?

(Windows 10 on my ssd drive boots properly every time)

Would anybody using iMac13,2 smbios settings in their default.plist mind sharing it? The only examples I can find have a lot of variables besides those used to change smbios in nvram and I'm not sure if anything else needs to change or if it all even needs to be there. Having variables to disable sip and anything else we generally need would also be a plus.

Have you tried booting in safe mode ?

Yep it is. It worked perfectly back on mavericks. Once Yosemite hit, the osx drivers caused a crash on shutdown and then sometimes a few crashes on boot before it finally loads the desktop. It made trying to set nvram variables a huge headache before I figured out I needed the web drivers. With the web drivers it works great.

Hmm well I added the defaults.plist to efi/oz, rebooted and cleared nvram and now I can't boot. Barring something I did wrong (which is probable) could it be the nvda_drv=1 flag? The -v flag isn't kicking in verbose mode either. I'm just stuck at the Apple logo with no progress bar.

Update: booting in safe mode gets the progress bar back but as it's loading my keyboard goes dead and it reboots. Trying to boot in verbose mode just gives me a black screen so it's hanging before anything can even begin to load.

Latest BIOS ... XMAS ?

You might still have to gen a serial that makes sense for iMac 13,2..

You can validate your plist with plutil in Terminal

Try to boot into you recovery partition by tapping F12 straight after POST

Yep I'm on the Xmas bios. I'm booted into a USB install of OSX at the moment. I put in a serial number and serial+5 before I put it in efi. I'm looking at it now. I'll try validating it.

It validated OK

I need it IN the Oz folder right? And it's "Defaults.plist" not "Default.plist" correct?

No luck booting into recovery either. Its the same problem. Apple logo with no progress bar.

Booted to the recovery of my USB drive and disabled SIP from there. After that I got my boot progress bar back but it still kept crashing during boot. Now I'm in under safe mode. Not really sure what the deal is here. Seems that the bios isn't reading the SIP config from the defaults.plist for starters and then even after disabling SIP manually something is causing a KP during boot. Can't really catch what's going on if I use verbose mode.

I think the problem is that ozmosis isn't reading the defaults.plist at all. I'm back in now after a few reboots (it seems clearing nvram put me back on the OS X graphics driver) but About this Mac still reads as a Mac Pro 3,1. Something's gotta be wrong with where I put it or something. It's on my boot drive which is on disk0 and it's the only disk with an Efi/Oz folder. Is the Oz folder supposed to be in an Efi folder? That's what's in there.

Use original ROM with MacPro3,1 http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/285920-new-os-x-compatible-motherboard-quo/?p=2238486 or use Defaults.plist.

I attached ROM with iMac13,2.

Thanks crusher. I'm already on the xmas bios but screw it I'll reflash it. Questions about your plist though. It's got kext-dev-mode=1 which I thought was deprecated and darkwake=0 which I have no idea about. Some other stuff like AndroidDiskOptionTemplate and LinuxDiskOptionTemplate which I'm assuming are something you use for some dual booting or whatnot. Also, the BaseboardSerial doesn't have the +5 digits which I know used to be mandatory for things like iMessage but maybe it's unnecessary these days. Just curious if I need to edit anything or if I should throw it in there as-is.

Googled darkwake no need to explain.

Well I flashed the bios and after a lot of boot loops and a manual reset I got in. It reset my graphics driver to OSX default again which explains that. Maybe I was still on the 1669 version after all. The good news is that it was reading the plist IronMan gave me because About This Mac displayed iMac13,2. The bad news is I got a KP a few seconds later and it restarted. Progress, though. Hopefully after I get back on the web drivers it'll settle down.
