tluck
@149113 well i suspect that the T420 and T520 pretty much same as far as BIOS and DSDT. the difference is screen size AFAIK. cool i didn't know you could go to 16 GB! the specs say 8GB max... so do you have 2 8GB DIMMS? nice. so the issue with 2 monitors is not a DSDT issue - the SNB graphics driver supports 4 buffers. i have the standard dock with 1 DP .... but you should be able to see what you did if the only thing that changed is the config.plist. the BIOS only supports supports boot up screen sizes. i picked one that is least distorted. you can use the up down arrow to test alternatives if you stop at the clover menu. 149113
tluck, thanks again for the info. The manual says 8GB max but that was written before 8GB DIMMS were mainstream. I have Gskill 1.35v models and they run with no issues in that laptop. The mSATA SSD only runs at SATA2 but it'd more than fast enough for what I plan to use it for. To save some time where would the settings for the video buffers exist in the config.plist (attached)? config.zip
pabragin
149113 By the way. How did you use 3000HD with 2 external monitors? When I start Mac with 2 displays attached he always used internal one and one of external, as hd3000 supports only 2 monitors. In that way I cant use second external monitor, because I can't switch off internal one. The only solution, that I found - http://osxdaily.com/2011/09/14/disable-the-internal-screen-on-a-macbook-pro-or-air-in-mac-os-x-10-7-lion/ But it is not so cool, because I need to close the lid, every time on start up. Also I cant use sleep mode, because on wake up notebook always used internal one display.

They also have a model with less video ports that works just as well. These pop up on eBay all the time and are pretty inexpensive used.
pabragin
149113 Dont get why I need this. I don't have any problems to connect 2 monitors, because I'm already have 1 Display port and 1 VGA port to connect 2 external monitors. Anyways, I cant use more than 2 at one moment, because of videocard restrictions. Or I missed something? My problem, that I can't use 2 external monitors with my lid opened. Your first comment wasn't clear. You are correct that you cannot use more than 2 monitors with this setup. My laptop monitor is never open, nor would I want it to be. But I am able to run two external monitors at 2560 x 1600 with both DP ports on the unit shown above. To me that is a superior setup with the T series laptops

pabragin
Check this... https://support.lenovo.com/es/es/documents/ht037605 trifeo, I was thinking that Nvidia don't work on this hackintosh build. 149113 yeah, got it. I'm using 2 FHD monitors, and this is more, than enough for me now
tluck
@1149113 well i have the simple dock with 1 DVI and 1 DP. The out of the box frame buffers seems to be set up for using these ports. i presume they are separate out put channels. i use the DP to my External Monitor. your config.plist doesn't have any buffer edits so i would expect it to work. but that may be on DVI1 and DP1. There is way to change the buffers to different connector types etc bcc9 wrote up the original thread. since many wanted VGA, i included this mod to enable VGA (instead of the DVI on the dock) @Xsmile2008. sometimes my trackpoint is dead on boot. trackpad works always but the red button sometimes doesn't work. a cold boot or restart fixes it. no idea why. your XtraFinder thing is an app issue. go their website and they provide a way/workaround - has to do SIP in 10.11 will be posting a new zip with Clover 3330 and the VoodooPS2Controller was bumped up a rev. i like to keep current.

149113
@tluck - thanks for the additional info. I did a reinstall & the second monitor worked until I applied the first patch that the app store provided for El Capitan (security, Itunes & Raw files). After that is applied I lose use of the second monitor. So I assume this is a kext issue correct? What should I check to validate that?

tluck
@149113 - so from what version to what version blew up the displays? very odd strange to me that it would work then not after an upgrade. but seems like a kext issue. you should capture ioreg -l output from when 2 monitors work to see the connection attributes. this may be a clue as what might need to be patched in SNBGraphics kext to get the missing buffer working after the upgrade. if you look at my config.plist you can see a way patch your buffers - you can fiddle with the last line to see what needs to be changed to get the External port connected find 01020400 10070000 10070000 05030000 02000000 30000000 < LCD 02050000 00040000 07000000 < DP on left 03040000 00040000 09000000 < DP on Dock 04060000 00040000 09000000 < DVI on Dock replace 01020400 10070000 10070000 05030000 02000000 30000000 02050000 00040000 07000000 03040000 00040000 09000000 06020000 10000000 09000000 < VGA instead of DVI

Anyway, OS´s runs pretty good form any of them.
ulyjunk
Can someone help me with my Lenovo W520, I'm missing DSDT. my USB installer doesn't even boot up completely, i keep getting error. No matter what I do.
Zeridialous
Just wanted to say thank you for all of your hard work, I've used this guide previously with modifications for my W520 and now I'm here performing this on the T420 with ease. I'm noticing a slightly odd behaviour in El Capitan where the volume level set with the hardware volume keys don't sync up with the levels shown by the volume control in the menu bar (it does correctly update in System Preferences). Oddly enough this only happens with the built-in speakers, it does work correctly when something is plugged into the headphone jack. EDIT: Other behaviour I'm seeing: Sleep: - When waking from sleep by opening the lid, the display doesn't power on (I have the 1366x768 panel). - When waking from sleep by pressing the power button, the display wakes up normally (this should be the case for the scenario above). DVD drive: - I'm unable to burn CD/DVD's. System Information > Disc Burning shows "No disc burning device was found. If the device is external, make sure it’s connected and turned on." - Reading of discs and DVD playback however is working correctly.
tluck
Zeridialous can you perhaps help out ujyjunk and provide your W520 DSDT (and/or) other config changes? so on you questions: Sleep - Yes known behavior. if you add darkwake=0 as a boot option then the opening lid will wake and light the screen. (i believe this also disables power nap etc) vs hitting power or blue FN key to fully wake. DVD - Apple considers the T420 DVD (MAT{censored}A) as partially supported. which means some burn methods options will not work. a real macbook pro with super drive DVD will list the DVD support as Apple Shipped Drive vs Generic Drive Support seem to recall having used a command line tool such as hdiutil to burn ISOs from OS X. vs say in windows VM. MAT{censored}A DVD-RAM UJ8A0A: Firmware Revision: SB02 Interconnect: ATAPI Burn Support: Yes (Generic Drive Support) Profile Path: None Cache: 1024 KB Reads DVD: Yes CD-Write: -R, -RW DVD-Write: -R, -R DL, -RAM, -RW, +R, +R DL, +RW Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO Media: To show the available burn speeds, insert a disc and choose File > Refresh Information
Zeridialous
@tluck: Thanks for the insight, I'll give darkwake a shot and see how things go. Regarding the DVD drive, well... now I feel stupid (mind you I've had this unit a week). I took another look in System Information and this model doesn't actually have a DVD-RW drive, I just assumed it did lol. Just goes to show how much I use optical drives these days. Do you happen to know what the issue could be with the volume levels differing between the menu bar item and the hardware keys? @ujyjunk: I'll see if I can dig up the ZIP file I made for my W520, it had all of the appropriate kexts/DSDT/config.plist stuff, but since I haven't had that machine in a year the files floating around on an external drive somewhere. If I can find it I'll post it, and if not I'll do some digging and at least see if I can get you started. EDIT: I also have the SD card reader working (although it doesn't appear in System Information under Card Reader) using VoodooSDHC.kext, attached below. VoodooSDHC.kext.zip

Zeridialous
thanks. well i tried the card reader kext. same as always. recognizes the drive but then freezes everything up when i go to format an inserted SD card. Interesting, I'll test it out some more when I get home.. I copied and deleted some files without issue but haven't tried formatting a card yet. The kext is the DMA version of VoodooSDHC, perhaps the No DMA version is more stable?
gromalle
Thanks, tluck and kextguys! Everything works perfectly well with latest update (r3330) on OS X 10.11.2 (15C50).
gromalle
EDIT: I also have the SD card reader working (although it doesn't appear in System Information under Card Reader) using VoodooSDHC.kext, attached below. Wow! Just tried your kext and SD card reader works for me too! I can format (FAT/msdos part.table), read and write on SD card! Thanks Zeridialous! UPDATE: I don't know why, but card reader not working anymore after reboot. Rebuilding cache, redoing same tasks (remove/place kext in /L/E/) does not help. Very strange problem
