Well most people don't need ME in general. It's really only helpful in corporate environments. Remote power + OOB system management. Also you need a capable cpu with vpro and then you need a proper network and tools that actually utilize that feature. I'm just one of those "if it's in the box, I want it to work" types. In windows, Management Engine does get detected as a system device though I do not know for what purpose. (I think ME has some extensions that allows ME admins to safely power down, though I'm not convinced that access to user land is necessary for this as ACPI should be sufficient. But maybe ME has WMI extensions to pull system information. I don't know much about Intel and ME. I'm experienced with Dell's version of this called DRAC that has this exact same functionality and then some.)

So no big deal, I just didn't know if you purposely disabled it due to a conflict or something.

Hi tluck,

Thanks for your efforts.

I am still with chameleon, which works fine for me.

I upgraded to 10.9.2 (combo) and have two issues regarding sound.

It beeps when sleeping and wakeup, that's new.

Sound doesn't work anymore.

Layout ID is set to 12, which was already set before upgrade using HDA kext from your previous pack.

checked it also with dsdt in actual pack.

I tried a new 10.9.2 on a spare disk - same behavior.

Maybe an enabler is needed?

Do you have a clue?

@verleinix

weird. no clue. the only time i have had beeping on sleep wake was during a test with a bus reset method in the dsdt.

but you are using a dsdt.aml and AppleHDA.kext from the zip - right?

you installed the kext with kext utility (to remake caches)?

its beeping from the internal speaker? any syslog messages?

did you try to selecting the other output options? (see image below)

are you seeing something like this in your audio bar? (hold option down and click) without logitech USB? showing 2 outputs and 2 inputs?

huh, wonder if there is problem with the zip? will download and check it.

but if you don't see the built-in speaker and mic - it doesnt look like the AppleHDA.kext is installed or running, right?

to rebuild the caches do this:

sudo touch /System/Library/Extensions

can you run these 2 commands:

kextstat | grep HDA

ioreg -l | grep HDA |grep -v IOKitD

should look something like this:

$ kextstat|grep AppleHDA

With your advise and superb zip.package, I know can install the 10.8 on my T420 (4180AJ5). Just final fine tune. 3 points bother me right now.

(1) is that every time I reboot/restart, I need to boot it "without cache" option. If I let it boot normally, the boot fail.

(2) not sure if the audio work fine with your latest (Feb 27) package ? Not work for me. Under "System Perference/Sound", there is no input and output device to be selected.

(3) 10.8 worked well but not the 10.9. I did follow your instruction from download the Mavericks from AppStore ... till rename the config1600.plist to config.plist .. stemp by step. Unfortunately, the Mavericks Installer fail to boot. This make me feel that my machine is not supported for Mavericks - - but you guys on this forum is talking about this like 10.9 is well/widely supported for T420. Make me confuse, any idea sir ??

Thank you very much for your kind support.

@K.SURACHAI

well it seems a number of folks (hundreds) have successfully installed and use Mavericks on the T420.

Here are some replies to your points:

(1) and (2) - need to boot without cache option and audio not working.

i presume you are using the entire zip CLOVER folder which has DSDT to match the patched AppleHDA.kext in the bundle.

post install, did you install the kexts from the zip kext or EFI folder to the HD /System/Library/Extension folder ?

- there is a script or use Kext Utility.app

(3) 10.8 working - can't create create Mavericks installer or install

for a USB installer - rename the OEM folder on the USB to OEM.NU to use the "top level config.plist which will inject kexts appropriate for installer and virgin OS.

after success boot from HD.

- install kexts to /S/L/E folder

- rename Clover folder OEM/ProductID.1600x900 to OEM/4180AJ5 - i.e. to match your system/board - to use OEM config.plist which does a few things differently than the top-level.

bottom line: if you follow the Guide - step by step - it works. i just recreated a fresh 10.9.2 install on a test HD with the zip bundle. may take about 45 minutes or so to create the USB and then about 25 minutes for fresh install - about 50 minutes for an install over previous install.

i will add few to post install instructions the Guid - to remove and recreate the network interfaces for a new os install.

kextload  /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleIntelE1000e.kext

sleep 10

rm        /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist

touch     /System/Library/Extensions

reboot

(1) & (2) .. I'm using the Kext Utility.app (drag & drop each kext under 10.8 to the Kext Utility.app window) Should I use script instead ??

And of course, I copy all the whole CLOVER folder from your zip to the "EFI".

(3) I'm using USB installer .. did not rename the OEM folder as you suggested before.

Howerver, after rename & try boot the Mavericks Installer USB.. still fail to boot.

Note that I had update BIOS to the latest version.

You should probably drag and drop all the kexts, not each separately..

@dainiookas - what kind of issue are you having exactly? is VT-d disabled? fyi, i run a whitelist modded 1.46 bios.

@k.surachai - what OSX version are trying to use - the zip has  10.8.5 and 10.9.2 AppleHDA.kext

do have the custom DSDT.aml from the zip in place? meaning are you booting from the HD - if so did you replace the CLOVER folder, install kexts and rename OEM folder with DSDT.aml ? just guessing - you need provide information. like clover logs etc.

run and post the results

ioreg -l | grep -v IOKitD | grep AppleHDA

Here the result from command you asked to run. Not sure if it tell you needed info.

KhSurachais-MacBook-Pro:~ kh.surachai$ ioreg -l | grep -v IOKitD | grep AppleHDA
    | |   | +-o AppleHDAController@1B  <class AppleHDAController, id 0x100000282, registered, matched, active, busy 0 (3648 ms), retain 10>
    | |   |   |   "IOClass" = "AppleHDAController"
    | |   |   |   "CFBundleIdentifier" = "com.apple.driver.AppleHDAController"
KhSurachais-MacBook-Pro:~ kh.surachai$

Software  OS X 10.8 (12A128p

My OS is 10.8 (12A128p); For what I had done - - basically, follow your guide (follow the "Clover UEFI on T420 Guide" link in your signature). After I finish the install, I follow your Post OS Install on HD instructions; in brief
1) Boot from USB; install Clover (r2636) on HD

2) copy "EFI" folder from your zip (Feb 27, 2014) to the EFI volume on HD

3) rename config.1600x900.plist to config.plist

4) copy "DisplayVendorID-*" folder from your zip to /System/Library/Display/Overrides on HD

5) change OEM/productID.1600x900 folder name to OEM/4180AJ5

6) install 7 kexts under Clover/kexts/10.8 using the Kext Utility

7) finally, reboot the system and "boot without cache"

At this point, Sound seem doesn't work (Under "System Preference", no input device found and only "Air Play" output device found) And every time I boot it normally, it freeze after a while. I must "boot without cache" every time to make it boot.

Also I try the Mavericks (downloaded via AppStore) fresh install with your guid. But I can't boot the Mavericks USB Installer ... it freeze after a big while.

@k.surachai - well if thats the only AppleHDA found in ioreg, then it could be your device is not being defined in the DSDT because AppleHDA.kext is not running? grep AppleHDA in /var/log/system.log or dmesg.

12A128p seems to be 10.8 developer preview - maybe the AppleHDA is not compatible (the bundle is for 10.8.5). personally Mavericks (free) is the way to go. to boot installer make sure OEM folder is not used. rename OEM folder on HD and/or USB and make sure which device you boot from.

create the USB using the built-in 10.9 procedure (shown in guid) and then copy the zip folder to the USB /EFI folder if MBR. or mount USB ESP partition to put there (if your USB is GUID)

@tluck - I had issues where UEFI wouldn't boot. Or some other situations like it wouldn't boot for the second time in a row. Actually today I was determined to go for it and in the end just tried using USB port which is under display port slot - it worked. I've tried all the other previously but it wouldn't work (as I said, would boot only once and then wouldn't for consequent times).

These ports do work for USB disks to copy data, etc. Strange, but it worked now. Typing this from 10.9.2.

The USB drive for future reference if someone hits the same issue is Kingston DataTraveler 100 G3 8GB. At the moment I'm going to run on a test drive for a few days - will post for information if some issues appear.

At the moment I can confirm that it does work with 1.33 whitelisted BIOS.

@dainiookas - cool. i looked at the README for the T420 bios updates and it mentions some USB fixes over the various versions. so maybe a bios upgrade would fix your boot woes. i use 1.46 whitelist mod and have not had issues.

@tetonne - which output are you using? did you try the other output? 1 is for Dock, the other is for built-in speaker/front-right headphone?

the previous 10.9.1 AppleHDA.kext version will work too.

Hi, tluck,

thank your guideline, everything works perfect except VGA port for external monitor (DELL u2211h) does't work.

Steps &  Sign:

Power on  monitor.

Connect laptop with VGA port. //the monitor  led  turn greeen then turn yellow .(it means connection detected first. then without data sending from laptop)

I can confirm the function of the hardware should be ok. because  it works fine under  Windows 8.
