I feel my system works well enough to be posted here :P

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 850 3.3 Ghz

Motherboard: Asus M5A78L-M LX

RAM: 4GB DDR3 1333Mhz

SATA: 1TB Seagate HDD

GPU: Radeon 3000 onboard (no kexts loaded; needless to say, no QE/CI, capped at 1024x768, very glitchy)

LAN: Realtek Gigabit Ethernet, not tested yet

Wi-Fi: TP-Link TL-WN881ND (Atheros AR9287 chip), works with this kext

Sound: Realtek HD onboard audio, works with VoodooHDA

Other OSs: Ubuntu 13.04 daily and Windows 8, installed beforehand, working in perfect harmony

Bootloader: GRUB 2*

10.8.3 Mountain Lion (upgraded from Retail through combo), with AnV kernel, patched for MBR, no flags. Apart from graphics, it works great. GraphicsEnabler=Yes won't boot.

*I have Chameleon on a USB stick for now, since the installer won't replace GRUB in the MBR; GRUB 2 detects OS X, but it doesn't boot the AMD kernel I found a way to get GRUB to chainload Chameleon, which can then load OS X

  • 2 weeks later...

It's been a busy two days:

AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition

Asus M4A78 Plus Motherboard

XFX Radeon 4890 1 GB Graphics Card

6 GB RAM

iATKOS L2 10.7.2

Working

Booted installer with the following flags: -legacy -v UseKernelCache=No GraphicsEnabler =No

Once installed booted with: -v -F UseKerneCache=No arch=i386 GraphicsEnabler=No npci=0x3000 EthernetBuiltIn=Yes

Graphics working with QE/CI Kext

iATKOS ML2 10.8.3

Working

Booted installer with the same flags used for L2

Initially Booted after install with: UseKernelCache=No GraphicsEnabler=No npci=0x3000

After installing QE/CI Kexts for 10.8.3 I changed "GraphicsEnabler" to Yes.

Everything Runs fine.

Initially I didn't have sound but I solved that issue by using speakers/mic connected via USB. Sound works perfectly now. No glitches.

Occasionally I see a graphics glitch in Chrome but that might be Chrome related.

AMD Phenom II x4 820

ASRock 880GXH/USB3

8gb G.SKILL DDR3

Nvidia GTX 470

Using WDC WD6400AAKS for this project. Partitions = 3x30gb + 1x511gb. 1st = 10.7.5, 2nd = 10.8.2, 3rd at the beginning of the process = 10.6.7 - I have since replaced it with Linux Mint 14, using easybcd grub2 autodetect to boot it.

Installed Snow Leopard to 3rd partition.

Installed Lion from inside Snow Leopard via IATKOS V2 (10.7.2) w/ the help of showallfiles & osinstall pkg. Regular options chosen (evoreboot, fakesmc, etc)

Replaced kernel on the Lion drive with mach_kernel_FX_10_7_X_64.zip. (not sure which kernel this is)

Replaced IOPCIFamily.kext with netkas's.

Replaced Finder with DP2 x32 finder.

Installed latest Chameleon.

Used flags: arch=i386 -f npci=0x2000 (<-- was already in the list even if unchecked) GraphicsEnabler=Yes fsb=250000000 busratio=14

Booted.

Updated to 10.7.5 via combo update previously downloaded.

Pointed Chameleon Wiz to a different kernel before rebooting, (from the patched kernels wiki) Bronzovka 10.7.4 kernel [10] [11] (amd_1074_i386_64bit.zip).

Replaced Finder again w/ dp2 x32 from inside leopard. Repaired, voila

Audio took me a while, but it was easy. I got the systeminfo app and saw azalia audio as my hardware, so I went to osx86net and searched for it and used the one dated 10th April 2012. My chip = ALC892. Only 2 channels work - at least it's working though! Sounds good. No popping. No dsdt editing. For my uses it's great as is.

*am not using -legacy flag.

*have not had to do the Xpchelper fix.

*Do have QE/CI. Am using Nvidia's latest drivers for 10.7.5 via nvidia installers.

*Installed Chimera bootloader first before chameleon because of video issues experienced with past installs, I think /extra/modules is created? No clue if that's relevant or helpful. Also, Chameleon saves commands inputed @ bootloader bios screen.. idk how to turn it off other than by installing chimera over it..

*If I were going to install this on another machine outside of my own, I'd get myhack and make a myhack usb of 10.7.2 /w the kexts, kernels (name them different and point chameleon wizard to whichever you choose) and bootloader listed above. Running myhackfix in full mode has broken previous lion installs for myself.. just sayin'.. be careful with it. I'm guessing it has to do with the cache rebuilding.. I've had issues with cloning this particular setup and I suspect it's the var/db (shadowcopy) but idk. I'm just scratchin the surface..

*My 10.8.2 is bootable only after I removed the geforce / nvidia kexts from System/Library/Extensions. GraphicsEnabler obviously isn't working for me :D It's useful to have it there for editing the 10.7.5 partition and vice versa though. A work in progress..

BTW, THANKS for making this possible hackintosh community!

AMD FX-8350 4.0 GHz - Factory Setting

Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD5 MB:

- Audio codec RTL ALC889 working with Voodoo HDA, tests with HDAEnabler and Modifed kexts for ALC8889 have failed so far

- LAN RTL 8111E working with the RTL Mac drivers for SL and Lion here

- 2 rear USB 3.0 ports, PXHCD for SL here, Generic USB XHCI for Lion here

- 14 USB 2.0 ports, 8 rear, two front, others are motherboard headers, all working

- 2 rear eSATA

- PS2 working

- Firewire 1394a (does not connect to My Book in Lion, wait for like 20 minutes in SL and the drive usually appears)

- Firewire 2x 1394b & 1x 1394a - SYBA SD-PEX30009 PCI Express - Installed Card, Turned On Computer, My Book Connects just like on my MacBook Pro at 1394b (SL & Lion)!!! Smoothest install of an expansion card ever!!!

ATI FirePro V4900 DVI/HDMI: QE/CI with all outs in both Snow Leopard and Lion with GraphicsEnabler=N, HDMI audio appears in sound list with VoodooHDA, but not tested yet. Injected FirePro Device ID Vendor ID combination into ATI6000Controller.kext, Tutorial here

Wireless LAN via USB 2.0 Realtek RTL8188CUS - Working with RTL Mac drivers. Realtek says the RTL 8191US drivers are used for SL and Lion here. Have to use the Microsoft solution (power cycle the wireless radio) upon first OS start. After that, the wireless connection is usually present the whole time. It is a very economical wirless network solution. If dying to know more about it, it is here.

Logitech USB key for MX1000 Mouse

16 GB RAM: Crucial Ballistix DDR3-1600, 8-8-8-24, using all four slots

2 Internal HDs:

1x 256GB - 85 GB for SL, Lion, and ML (future), Crucial M4, 040 Firmware, SATA III, 250 MB/s Write, 500 MB/s Read (factory specification)

1x 1TB - 500 GB Data and Applications, 500 GB Time Machine, Caviar Black, WDFALS1001, SATA II, 108 MB/s read & write (factory specification)

External HD: 500 GB Seagate Momentus 7200.4, connected with the Anker eSATA, USB 3.0/2.0 Hard Drive Enclosure. SATA I negotiated link speed. 82 MB/s read & write in eSATA and USB 3.0 (matches non Seagate benchmark throughput tests). Works perfectly.

Snow Leopard 10.6.8, 32-bit kernel from AnV with 64-bit user land: boots very quickly when using kernel cache, about 5 seconds or less. Shuts down or restarts in about 10-15 seconds. Bootflags with Chameleon 2, r726 are busratio=20 arch=i386 -force64 GraphicsEnabler=N npci=0x2000

Lion 10.7.5. 32-bit boot: in 32-bit mode (arch=i386 npci=0x2000), the Cinebench OpenGL test executes successfully and video files on YouTube play correctly. Chameleon 2.1 r2089.

Lion 10.7.5. 64-bit boot: npci=0x2000 or

-v USBBusFix=Yes, UseMemDetect=Yes UseKernelCache=Yes npci=0x2000 or

UseKernelCache=Yes UseMemDetect=Yes npci=0x2000

Chameleon 2.1 r2089 or

Chameleon 2.2 r2187

CineBench OpenGL has the red pixel problem and covers the cars with red. I have to use the -v flag to boot with USBBusFix=Yes, otherwise kernel panic on boot. Flash and other video files do not appear on the screen.

Installed Lion with Chameleon bootloader 2.2, r2187, injected the Lion ATI6000Controller.kext prior to executing the Lion retail installation purchased mid March 2013: Chameleon 2187 pkg is here.

Chameleon bootloader 2.1: This version successfully boots 32-bit and 64-bit 10.7.5 Lion with the Bronzovka kernel. The Chameleon 2.1 2089 pkg is here

Geekbench 64bit: 12622!

Geekbench 32bit: 11330!

Compares to the 64-bit 5891 Geekbench score on my 2010 MacBook Pro i5, 2.53GHz, 8GB RAM

Cinebench: 6.95 pts CPU (64-bit or 32-bit), 42.74 fps OpenGL (32-bit Lion boot)

Other notes: I also tested the Lion installation with myHack onto my external Seagate. It installed and worked correctly too, but I wanted to have a different boot loader solution that would support booting SL or Lion as I wish. Presently I can only boot SL successfully with Chameleon 2, r726. Any other boot loader version I have tried (Clover 1050, 12XX) cannot boot both SL and Lion. Chameleon 2.1 and 2.2 boot Lion via USB Flash formatted as HFS+ Journaled.

I have the same problem with my ATI HD 5670 (Saphire 512 Mb) on Niresh 10.8.2

But when I use my IGP (ATI 4250) it works but I don't have wizard after installation (directly login prompt).

Welcome to the AMD Development forum!

Post your working build here in this topic, if you want, but let's leave this kind of posts like this one above to where they belong, the Mountain Lion kernel testing topic. Much appreciated!

I'll move this post to the appropriate place, as soon as i get feedback that you read it, or after 24 hours.

All the best!

Just wanted to post my methods so it may help the next guy. I know this isn't the perfect method, but it's how I got it done. So here goes my specs:

Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-970A-UD3 (Rev 1.2) GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 (Rev 4.0)
CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1075T (Non-Black Edition) AMD FX-8320 8-core Black Edition
RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600Mhz (4GB x 4)
Graphics: MSI GeForce GTX 660 OC
Hard Drives: 1TB (Windows 7 Ultimate x64) ; 500GB (Ubuntu 12.04 x64) ; 500GB (OS X Mavericks 10.9)

Mavericks: (Required kexts and working kernel attached below)

1. Using Mountain Lion, I downloaded the Mavericks installer from App Store, but do not launch the update of course.

2. Using myHack, I created a 10.9 installer, and used the Mavericks installer app when myHack asked for it.

3. After myHack finished, I downloaded Bronya's RC7 kernel, that has the graphics fix put in, and pasted the mach_kernel to the installer, replacing the original one.

4. Booted from the USB installer, and got to the installer using: -v npci=0x2000 GraphicsEnabler=No

5. Installed, then selected Yes to all of myHack's prompts toward the end of installation.

6. Booted back into Mountain Lion and re-copied Bronya's RC7 kernel to Mavericks, replacing the original one.

7. Booted the Mavericks partition using the flags above.

8.Finally, installed VoodooHDA v2.7.2 for sound(needs to be this version, newer versions won't work), and AppleRTL8169Ethernet for networking.

EDIT: Upgraded the motherboard to GA-990FXA-UD3 (Rev 4.0), got a "Still waiting on root device" error even when sata mode was set to AHCI. Spakk pointed out that the Mac hard drive has to be connected to port 0. Thanks spakk

EDIT 2: Updated to 10.9.1, no problems at all.

EDIT 3. With the new mobo, I had to install GenericUSBXHCI.kext from here to get USB 3.0 ports working.

Screenshot%202013-11-08%2022.36.28.png

Mountain Lion:

1. I got a retail copy of OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.2, and used myHack to create a USB installer.
2. When myHack finished, I replaced the mach_kernel with the amd kernel from here . Renaming it to "mach_kernel" of course.
3. Then, I deleted all NVidia and ATI kexts from System\Library\Extentsions, because I couldn't get to the installer without doing that.
4. After that, I deleted both IOBlutooth kexts from System\Library\Extentsions.
5. I sucessfully got to the installer using: npci=0x2000 PCIRootUID=0 GraphicsEnabler=No -v
6. When the installations was almost conpleted, myHack prompted me, and I chose to install Extra, and Remove Problem Kexts.
7. When the installation failed, I ignored and rebooted into Snow Leopard to delete all NVidia/ATI kexts from the new installation. I also re-copied the AMD mach_kernel again.
8. Using the myHack USB bootloader, I was able to boot to the Welcome screen using these flags:
-v -f npci=0x2000 PCIRootUID=0 GraphicsEnabler=No
9. Then, I installed the official NVIDIA drivers from here and rebooted. After this, i could only get it to boot completely in safe mode. So I had to delete GeForceGA.plugin and GeForceGLDriver.bundle. After I did this, it booted fine in normal mode, and I had a nice resolution of 1600x1200.
10. Then, I used "a tool that shall not be named here" to install the following:
Ethernet - Realtek - AppleRTL8169Ethernet.kext
Audio - VoodooHDA 2.7.x
Bootloader - Chimera

NOTE: I also had to add EthernetBuiltIn=Yes to my org.chameleon.Boot.plist so I could login to App Store, however iCloud still doesn't work.

Working Great:
Just about everything

Broken:
iCloud

EDIT: I applied the 10.8.3 update via the App Store. The installation completed successfully. After the installation, but before rebooting, I re-installed the official NVIDIA drivers, re-copied the AMD mach_kernel, then deleted GeForceGA.plugin, GeForceGLDriver.bundle and AppleHDA.kext from S/L/E. Then i reinstalled AppleRTL8169Ethernet.kext, VoodooHDA.kext, the other essentials and Chimera bootloader and rebooted. Everything works great (still with broken iCloud and Audio, but thats ok) on 10.8.3 now.

EDIT 2: I applied the 10.8.4 combo update via App Store. I did the exact same thing as i did above. Audio and iCloud still doesn't work.

EDIT 3: Upgraded the processor to an AMD FX-8320 Black Edtion, and sadly AnV's great kernel wouldn't work, so I had to use Sinetek's FX kernel here.

Thanks to Spakk for the help, thanks to AnV for keeping my old Phenom rocking, and thanks to Sinetek for the FX kernel.! Also, SOUND IS NOW WORKING FOR SOME REASON. YAY!!

EDIT 4: Applied the 10.8.5 combo update. Made sure to rollback AppleACPIPlatform.kext before rebooting. Did the same thing above, now works. Sound and Bluetooth now works flawlessly. Thanks theconnactic for the help after 10.8.5 update

Thanks to AnV, Sinetek, and Bronya for the AMD kernels. AMD forever!!!

Hello all. Long time reader, but this is my first time posting. I've been running Snow Leopard for the longest now, and I finally made the move to Mountain Lion. At first, I was only able to get ML using a distro, but I prefer retail. Just wanted to post my methods so it may help the next guy. I know this isn't the perfect method, but it's how I got it done. So here goes my specs:

Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-970-UD3 (Rev 1.2)

CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1075T (Non-Black Edition)

RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600Mhz (4GB x 4)

Graphics: MSI GeForce GTX 660 OC ; Sparkle GeForce 9500GT

Hard Drives: 1TB (Windows 7 Ultimate x64) ; 500GB (Ubuntu 12.04 x64, OS X Snow Leopard) ; 500GB (OS X Mountian Lion 10.8.2)

Here's the method I used:

8. Using the myHack USB bootloader, I was able to boot to the Welcome screen using almost these flags:

Broken:

iCloud

Audio

Screen%20Shot%202013-05-03%20at%201.55.55%20PM.png

I could live without iCloud, but I really wish I could get audio to work right. I can hear sound, but it's extremely choppy. I had this issue in Snow Leopard and I fixed it by disabling AMD C1E Support in my BIOS. The only VoodooHDA kext that gives me somewhat of sound is v0.2.72. Everything else gives me errors when i try to access VoodooHDA settings. I've tried enabling SSE2 in VoodooHDA settings, but didn't help. If I could get my audio working good, then i'd call this a 99% functional build. If anyone has a possible soution for my sound problem, I'd like to hear it.

Thanks to the people who made the AMD kernel. AMD forever!!!

If you have the money get a cheap USB sound device

CPU: AMD Phenom II X2 555 BE unlocked to Phenom II X4 B55 @ 3.2 GHz

Motherboard: Asus M4A785TD-V EVO

SB/NB: SB:710 & NB:785G

RAM: 2GB DDR3 1333Mhz

SATA: 500 GB working.

IDE: 40 GB working. (My working 10.6.8 is installed on this drive with SATA configuration set to IDE)

USB 2.0: All ports work.

Firewire: No idea.

GPU: ATI Radeon HD 5770, worked OOB, QE/CI. (Worked even without dsdt)

LAN: Realtek RTL8112L onboard, not tested.

Sound: VIA VT1708S : modified VoodooHDA works. HD 5770 HDMI audio needs dsdt edit and VoodooHDA trashed.

PS2: Working properly with ApplePS2Controller kext.

Working Build: Snow Leopard 10.6.8

Used Nawcom's modusb for installation with Snow Leopard 10A432 retail dmg.

Updated to 10.6.8 using combo update, replaced acpi and usb kexts from 10.6.7, repaired permissions, booted with nawcom's 10.6.8 kernel, used amd insn patcher.

Booting with all 4 cores give random kp during boot at times, but works fine otherwise. (perhaps TSCsync issue)

To boot with sinetek kernel, AppleATIATA.kext is needed in extras, otherwise gives "still waiting for root device" error.

Bootflags:

Nawcom kernel: cpus=4 busratio=16 -force64 arch=i386 ( cpus=1, cpus=2 work too)

Sinetek kernel: busratio=16 arch=x86_64

Kernel Issues:

Nawcom's kernel: Almost none, everything works fine.

Sinetek kernel: iTunes, Quicktime crash. Opening any folder in Finder having video files which open with quicktime gives kernel panic and lockdown or restart (perhaps video preview related).

Okay so after a LOT of playing around, testing and frustration I have Lion 10.7.5 running BEAUTIFULLY.

My mother board is the BIOSTAR A780L - Highly unsupported (google brings up one forum where someone got it running).

CPU: AMD Athlon II X2 645 3.3 GHz

RAM: 4 GB DDR2 (2x 2 GB)

Hard Drive: 2 X Seagate 160Gb SATA

Graphics: HiS ATI HD 5770 - FULL QE/CI, NO glitches. Games working fine (Dota 2 only tested)

Network: Realtek RTL8168 / USB Wireless adapter DOES NOT work. It is noticed and the light flashes, but won't connect. Netgear WNA3100 Adapter - BCM43231

Audio: Using VoodooHDA - works flawlessly, quality is even better than Windows.

PS/2: Not tested.

Optical drive: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH20LS10 working

I/O Ports: All ports are working perfectly. Both front and back jacks work too.

OS X Installation / Configuration:

Lion: Successfully installed using a collation of guides. Mainly knowledge built up on what I've tested myself. I am writing a guide to help others though.

Used myHack to create a USB and retail Lion DMG.

Used Shanes kernel to boot, with the flags "legacy_kernel -v -nossse3bit USBLegacyOff=Yes UserKernelCache=No -f npci=0x2000 -legacy"

Once installed, and updated, I only needed to use the flags "legacy_kernel -v -nossse3bit USBLegacyOff=Yes npci=0x2000 GraphicsEnabler=Yes AtiConfig=Vervet"

Got the kernel from here

My graphics card wasn't working properly when I first had everything installed and booted. There was something wrong with the framebuffer so Geekbench, Ableton etc wouldn't load, all with the same error. Setting GraphicsEnabler=Yes and AtiConfig=Vervet wouldn't set the framebuffer properly. Every time, even with GraphicsEnabler=No, it would load Radeon framebuffer. There was a tutorial that spoke about loading the graphics card with a boot file. I deleted my boot file and in the rush I was in, I rebooted, so got a boot error. I re-copied the boot file from the installer USB, and voila, it worked, with the proper frambuffer loaded. Not sure what happened there.

AppStore, Mail, iTunes and Quicktime works fine. FaceTime crashes. Haven't tested much of the vanilla Lion apps.

Mountain Lion: Successfully installed with iATKOS_ML2 and AnV's latest amd_kernel! Graphics are very messed. Lots of artifacts as seen in the ATI Graphics card thread. Barely usable.

Now using Lion as my main Operating System, and Windows 7 only when I want to jam a game really. Loving it!

Method: myHack 3.2 Beta 8

Boots arg: npci=0x2000 GraphicsEnabler=No

Generally works, graphics working with (fbrotate.app) but with glitchs (no solution yet), sounds with Voodoo (but not able to output sound on HDMI)

Updated to 10.8.4 by ComboUpdate, replace the kernel again, run myHack once more.

Anyone have an idea on the graphics glitch?
