I have been doing some test injecting info for my GTX560M and I found that some info causes this behave even on Fermi, I think you need to inject the correct info for your card, I know all of you are booting with GraphicsEnabler= NO because is a Kepler but, how do we know ins injecting the right info?

Look on the IOReg from james (he has QE/CI on his alienware) the display-0 are shown as port 09, I can help you to try injecting the righ info with some EFI Strings, does someone wants to be a ginnea pig? If so let me know.

Also please share an IOREG with all the nvidia drivers loaded, and login via VNC so I can give you a better options to inject.

By the way if someone have a Desktop Hack with a kepler card please share an IOReg too.

Good Luck

I have this ioregs you've mentioned above with nvidia drivers loaded and logged in via VNC.

All my dumps from lenovo w530 in this post http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/284767-anyone-mobile-kepler-6xxm-working/?p=1915493

But unfortunately I've sold w530 few weeks ago and hope this info may help to other users with mobile keplers.

Cheers!

Thanks to colaborate with this investigation, I check your info, are you sure the ioreg save files was taken with all nvidia kext loaded?, I can´t see the geforce kext loaded, maybe is caused by the same issue.

This kind of info does in fact help me a lot to understand what is going on.

I leave here an EFI string to test

this is what is injected

Hi Areos,

Thank you for helping us :).

I'm wondering : which part of the IOReg you are using to fill the plist for injection because I would like to make an EFIString for my GTX 670MX (G75VX) ?

I'm on journey right now but I will try to make an extract as soon as I will be back home.

This question is more for my information, specially if I need to make another one later (you never know ...).

Thanks in advance.

Hi AREOS,

After Applying your given Device Property string now i am able to see my Geforce GTX 660m's correct details BUT no HW acceleration my system is very laggy.

Kindly look into it.

Thanks.

So you got image in your internal screen?, do you got all the Nvidia drivers loaded? Can I have an ioregistry save? Even better could be a Darwin dumper save.

Lets get this to work

Sure, there are some info inside GFX0 and some other inside the @0,NVDA you can take a look. The problem here is to inject the correct info, in your case I think the info you need to correct are the conector info, connector flag, display-cfg, you can use the EFI string I post before for testing. Please be sure you load all Nvidia kexts repair permissions and rebuild cache. Also try to boot with other connector if you don't get image in your internal display.

Good luck

Hi AREOS,

Actually i deleted the NVresman.kext otherwise my laptop is hang on black screen with some codes.

Right now only NVDstartup.kext is loaded.

Ohh I see well all this is to fix that Black screen, did you try load NVDAResman with this EFI string? If not try it out, and please post your results. If you already tried load NVDAResman with this EFI string and you get this Black screen, does this Black screen happen before you load my EFI strings? If not is actually a good sign, this would mean we only need to find the correct info to inject. Also did you try connecting a HDMI screen or login via VNC?

When i loaded NVDAResman either with or without your EFI string my laptop goes to HANG like freeze exactly after loading that kext. And i already checked HDMI and Display port nothing works.

OK, maybe we need to keep trying some other efi string, what brand is your laptop? if you can find some info about what kind of connector has for the internal screen will be great.

I don´t have the hardware to do some test.

Good luck

On Lenovo W530 I've tried to unplug internal screen connector and use only external monitor. Booting hangs in this way too

thanks for share Joshh, this is actually a good test for discard the internal conector, which I was thinking it is the reason for your problems, when the laptop hangs, the hd stops activity too? have someone try to boot with -x (this will discard the geforce drivers it only loads the frame buffers drivers NVDAResman and NVDAGK100Hal?

Sorry to ask for test but I don´t have the hardware to make them by myself.

Good Luck

Hi !

I currently have an Alienware M17X R4 with an nVidia GTX680M. I also have the famous black screen on startup but it seems that OS X is still working in background. When I start with a VGA screen plug in, I can see my desktop with full hardware acceleration. With HDMI it hang on a grey screen. Both are not working if i plug them after startup.

The interresting part was that I get the same comportement with Linux and the nVidia driver (not nouveau) until the release of the 325.15 version. My screen is connected to dfp-4 internaly and wasn't found at all by the nVidia driver but nouveau.

I think your are right. The nvidia in the currently version available on OS X can't get the right infos from the screen.

I will be happy to make some test if you have some time to help other people. For example, do you need Xorg log from my current Linux distro ?

Thanks

I'd go with that theory too.  I've given up trying to get a K3000m working with the 10.8.4 drivers.  It's just not detecting the displays correctly no matter what DSDT injection you do.  What's the version of the GeForce kexts shipping with 10.8.5?  The latest drivers on NVidia's site are still at 313.. :(

Since you get full qe ci accel, it seems you problem is related to connector or display cfg, can you take an ioregistry save so I can give you an EFI String to test. Also your screen is 120hz? Is connected to the DP internally?

I'm not at home until tomorow but yes I have a 120Hz screen. I'll try to make IOReg then. On Linux, on Xorg logs, it was cleary said that driver can't find any screen plugged in. Most of the people said that was because of the integrated card. But in my case, the Intel card is not compatible with 120 Hz screens. So the screen is directly plugged to the graphics card. Xorg now report DFP-4 as link to the screen with the new driver.

Hi !

I attached two files. The first one is a complete dump with IOReg and the second a screenshot showing details about my graphics card seen by OS X and my external monitor which is actually working.

Thanks a lot.

I have seen you are using 10.8.2 official drivers, before trying some other method, first update to 10.8.4 and test with official drivers and if it does´t work try Nvidia Web drivers, this are known to be more detect port friendly. Also fix your Power management issues.

Good luck

I will be happy to make some test if you have some time to help other people. For example, do you need Xorg log from my current Linux distro ?

Thanks

I have the asus g75vx with the 670mx and whether i use vga or hdmi, external monitors have the same results as the built in monitor. It hangs regardless. Alienware laptops have been able to get it working but lenovo's and asus's haven't

Exactly, I think the Asus and Lenovo VBios are different to Alienware VBios and is not because they are included inside the main board Bios is because some code inside this VBios are for handling the IGPU HD4000, this is the same issue why some people trying to upgrade the GPU had to flash the card to Dell bios to the upgrade card in order to get it work.

The Asus G75VW with GTX670M does´t have this code because is a Fermi Card, if the problem was related to some physical interconnection this card won't work too but it does. The only difference in hardware between this two G75VW is the GPU which is a some custom MXM card. There are some differences for Kepler + HD 4000 combos vs Fermi + HD 4000 Combos.

Someone who like to try it out? Maybe injecting this Dell Bios for the Asus G74VW with GTX 660M? We need some VBios Guru to help us.

the Problem with this GTX 680M is not the same all others have. He can boot with an external monitor attached and with full acceleration it is just a port detection problem.

Hi !

Yes, in my case, I think my 120 Hz screen save me because of the incompatibility with Intel card.

I update to 10.8.4 and install nVidia Web driver changing my smbios to MacPro. I can see that kext from web driver are loaded even if display pane doesn't show it.

But my internal monitor is still black.

Here is a new ioreg export.

I hope we will make this work. Thanks for your help.
