iWin32
I'm hoping someone here may be able to help me! I've successfully modded, flashed, and booted from an RSA-signed BIOS on my HP laptop (specs in signature)!! One mod in particular was this mod described here: http://donovan6000.blogspot.com/2013/08/look-what-i-did.html Basically, older HP laptops that use InsydeH20 firmware for their BIOS only allows booting in legacy mode. This forced me to do this old boot path (boot0 -> boot1 -> boot -> CloverX64.efi -> Apple's boot.efi -> mach_kernel). I have been successful in booting Mac OS X this way, but I desired to try UEFI booting. Basically, in the BIOS is the SHA1 sum of CryptRSA.efi. This verifies and loads all HP diagnostic tools if and only if control is passed to it. This is done by making sure that the SHA1 sum of the CryptRSA.efi present on the HP_TOOLS partition is the same as the one in the BIOS. Theoretically, if we mod the BIOS to change the SHA1 sum of CryptRSA.efi to whatever EFI app we want, and that app is renamed to CryptRSA.efi in the correct place, we can load any UEFI app or bootloader we want. Using this mod, as described in the above link, I at first tried to boot Clover by putting the EFI folder on the root of my HP_TOOLS partition and renaming CLOVERX64.EFI as CryptRSA.efi in the right place. Unfortunately, this didn't work (got stuck at the blinking boot screen). I then tried modding and flashing again so that it would boot the EFI shell. This booted the shell, and with a Startup.nsh script on the root of that same partition, it executed Clover, but got stuck at the same blinking boot screen. So, it turned out that this was because my config.plist had been set to patch the VBIOS. As this had no merit when UEFI booting, I removed it, rebooted, and.... I got Clover's GUI!!!! Unfortunately, I then proceeded to try and boot Mountain Lion, which showed no video (it was loading something as my hard drive indicator light was lit). Yet, when it passed control over to the kernel, it somehow failed to begin booting Mountain Lion properly. I've attached both my config file and my preboot.log file, which I don't think indicates an error. config-and-preboot.zip Now, before you write this off as, "Maybe Clover can't boot OS X in this strange UEFI environment," this blogger has also dabbled in Hackintoshing, and reported to me in this conversation in the blog's comments that he succeeded in booting Mountain Lion this way. Another thing worth mentioning is that when I attempt to press Esc from the EFI shell to stop the execution of startup.nsh (when I press F2 to start CryptRSA.efi), it gives a strange error. I'd show you a screenshot, but the text keeps scrolling infinitely in both length in time that I would need a high-speed camera to get the picture. I made it out that it's a coding error based on the words "Slice" and some file with the ".c" extension. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks in advanced!! frankiee
Okay .... so it seems that the clover USB fix does affect sleep behavior. So I am still not sure it is CPU bound after all, also in chameleon sleep works OK. So next I used an older, custom DSDT patch for the IRQ / HPET problem. Now, I am at the "almost there" mode again, but still problems when waking up. I used filemerge to actually see if anything was different with these two patches - and there was, just take a look: So while the hand patched version (left) deals with IRQs 0, 8, 11, 15, the clover patch only modifes IRQs 0,8,11. Also the return value from method "_CRS" is "CRS" vs "ATT0". So it seems that the clover patch does something wrong, at least with my DSDT? Next, I left console open while sleeping (using the custom DSDT), and when the machine woke up, to my surprise there was a lot of log entries appearing. Unfortunately they weren't saved to next time when I tried, I made some photos of my screen: So guessing from the entries it does seem in fact that OS X was unable to access my drive after waking up. So while I can still do stuff that does NOT access my drive (if it was saved in RAM), as soon as any disk access is taking place, the App which tries just hangs. So I hope these new findings will help isolating and finally solving the problem.
Pene
1) Booted with standard config - no dice. When trying to sleep - as with my main config - sleep state was never entered. Monitor went black, but rest kept running. No blinking power light. Does not wake up, so must use reset to restart the computer. Are you sure you are not having sleep issues due to your Titan card? For Fab1Man and me, our GTX780 behaved just the same (monitor going black, sleep state never entered), until we fixed AGPM (check the discussion around post #3584). For Fab1Man and me, our GTX780 behaved just the same (monitor going black, sleep state never entered), until we fixed AGPM (check the discussion around post #3584). I do not think it is the GPU, as simple Monitor sleep seems to work, and with the "almost there" state, it also seems to fire up when waking (although when waking from keybaord, I have to press the key twice before the picture reappears. Also, since 10.9.1 GPU has PM enabled by default, it actually scales down, and also is able to enter "turbo" when trying with OpenGL (Cinebench). Of course, as soon as OpenCL is invoked, the PM seems to be stuck. But this is not a clover fault it seems, but rather something with OpenCL and the NVIDIA driver, so it seems we have to hope that there will be a fix in the future (if ever ....) But, what did you do _exactly_ with patching these kexts? Of course I will also try that, but I need a hint what to do. TIA! But as I said I do not belive this is the reason for my sleep problems. I actually also don't believe its the reason, it's probably unrelated. But as it was needed in my case to enable sleep on the weirdly-behaving GK110x series, it may be worth a try: One way to try it, is editing /System/Library/Extensions/AppleGraphicsPowerManagement.kext/Contents/Info.plist There, under the Mac-F60DEB81FF30ACF6 key, add for example: <key>Vendor10deDevice1005</key> <dict> <key>Heuristic</key> <dict> <key>ID</key> <integer>0</integer> <key>IdleInterval</key> <integer>250</integer> <key>SensorOption</key> <integer>1</integer> <key>SensorSampleRate</key> <integer>4</integer> <key>TargetCount</key> <integer>5</integer> <key>Threshold_High</key> <array> <integer>87</integer> <integer>87</integer> <integer>87</integer> <integer>100</integer> </array> <key>Threshold_Low</key> <array> <integer>0</integer> <integer>87</integer> <integer>87</integer> <integer>87</integer> </array> </dict> <key>LogControl</key> <integer>0</integer> <key>control-id</key> <integer>18</integer> </dict> <key>default-control-id</key> <integer>18</integer>

As a workaround maybe change hibernate mode to "suspend to RAM only" (if it is not already) ie in terminal type: sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 0 and see if this fixes sleep. Not sure if you have already tried various darkwake=0,8,10 options......

Interesting console log...... Indeed. And I see almost only USB related messages (the disk is also an external USB disk) so I begin to think that this is something USB related. And since I also have this other USB problem, and since I am on a newer X79 rev (the affected USB controllers are the native ones) I begin to wonder if actually both of these problems are connected. Looks like I need some ACPI expert. And I am also interested in an untouched System DSDT dump of a working R4E board, with the older south bridge revision (should be rev04 instead of rev06). So I can go ahead and actually compare the outputs. One question: can I boot clover on a USB 3 HDD? So I could try to completely switch off USB2 and look what happens under USB3 only. As a workaround maybe change hibernate mode to "suspend to RAM only" (if it is not already) ie in terminal type: sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 0 and see if this fixes sleep. frankiee
OK, thanks for he hints! I will try now. OK, so I was already in hibernatemode 0 so I skipped that. Setting darkwake modified the behavior a bit: so when setting to "8", I went back to the point where the machine refused to sleep. Other did settings did nothing. The "best" setting for me so far is "1", bc then I can fully wake up by only pressing a key once. But still the beachballing then. Another observation: tried autosleep, and in contrast to invoking forced sleep this is not able to fully go into sleep. Monitor goes black and that's it. BUT: I can wake up, and the machine is still repsonsible. And another screen, after activating USB3 kext: Also note the: "wake reason ?". This time I woke up with keyboard, using darkwake=1. Also: "vol_disappeared()" - not good I guess. One way to try it, is editing /System/Library/Extensions/AppleGraphicsPowerManagement.kext/Contents/Info.plist There, under the Mac-F60DEB81FF30ACF6 key, add for example: Ah I think I have failed on this. On another reboot OS X complained about that kext not being installed properly, and I also get this one in my log: com.apple.kextcache[428]: AppleGraphicsPowerManagement.kext is not authentic; omitting. how can I fix that? Pene
But why did you install this kext? It is included into standard OSX and you should not change it.There are reasons to patch AGPM, for example adding profiles of other cards under your system. For example, in some cases without proper AGPM system can refuse to enter sleep. But even when patching its Info.plist, I don't remember ever seeing that message of "not authentic, omitting". It is sometimes possible to achieve similar behaviour with FakeID, but that is only if you have under the model that you use a suitable card that you can use its ID. apianti
You probably edited the kext in place or didn't install it with kext utility (or similar tool) after you edited it. That message means that the hash signature for the kext no longer matches the one that is present in the kext, which obviously makes it not authentic because you edited it. You can just delete the signature but then you'll need to add it's name or new signature to the AppleKextExcludeList.kext. Or resign the kext, but I'm not sure that's possible or not. @pene, I believe that 10.9.1 (2?) and on will require all kexts to be signed or added to the kext exclusion list. apianti
Okay then it's 10.9.2, you're on 10.9.1, right? I had an in depth discussion about this with Download-Fritz and pokenguyen in the chat room here about it. They were trying to use the new method of keeping modifications to AppleHDA by creating a secondary kext that is loaded before AppleHDA but is named AppleHDA with a newer version in it's plist. It worked for pokenguyen, but it did not work for Download-Fritz, he was receiving that message. If he deleted the signature it said that the kext was invalid, if he added the name to AppleKextExcludeList then it was fine. I'm not exactly sure about the signature for AppleKextExcludeList.kext but it may also be resigned by kextcache everytime it is loaded or something, otherwise there's not really a point to it.... Hi Pene, CVad has produced an application named Kext Utility, that auto updates OSKextSigExceptionList. For users on 10.9.2 beta it is necessary to update the plist as advised by Pene, something similar here works fine without errors but a warning, as the stock one has info for the dual MacPro GPUs. frankiee
CVad has produced an application named Kext Utility, that auto updates OSKextSigExceptionList. I used kext wizard before, but that did not manage and update the ExceptionList. With kext utility, my patched kext was installed correctly, so AGPM fired up and inititalized my card. However, apart from that nothing seems to be different. I still get the PM bug, and still no proper sleep. Well, what can I do now? Still not sure if the sleep prob is actually USB related, but I do not know how to debug this. So I think I still need an ACPi expert here, or at least an unmodified R4E DSDT dump (with the older rev) so that I can compare it to my DSDT. Any help is GREATLY appreciated!
