vmwaremac Posted November 19, 2012 Share Posted November 19, 2012 perhaps this is the right forum for this: I got SL 10.6.8 running on a PC with AMD Phenom II X6 1100T and VMware 8.0.2. SL image is boot using a DVD Room drawin_legacy.iso. The Kernel of the Mac is the latest legacy kernel i got it fromhttp://www.osx86.net...el_10.8_v2.html and i also chose the force64 option. It's running nicely with 1 Core (or 1 CPU) assigned to the Mac Guest OS. I can even connect my iphone to it via the VMware USB relay. However it is not idea as it is slow with only 1 Core. When I assign 2 Core (or even 4 Core) to the Guest OS, I can boot it and run it with no problem. However, I will get the horrible CPU(s) have been disabled by Guest message after a few hours of running. I always leave the PC and the Guest running all the time. There is no pattern on when I will get the CPU disabled message. I therefore disabled all the screensaver or energy related features within the Guest OS but i have no luck. I wonder anyone can shed some light into this and tell me how kind of log files I need to look at? I tried the /var/log/system.log but nothing happened the crashing. many thanks ! In Workstation 9 there is now a message box when you use more than one vCPU. That's news to me, as I've been using it with 2-vcpu setup for a while with no message box and no CPU disabled. OTOH I don't keep it on all the time. vmwaremac Posted November 21, 2012 Author Share Posted November 21, 2012 That's right. When I run Linux as OS, I can have multiple vcpus and it is very solid. In fact, the linux guest OS runs months without any problem with 2 cores. But the Mac sometimes lasts a couple of hours and some times a couple of days before I got the CPU disabled message. i am not sure how to 'debug' this problem. Donk Posted November 21, 2012 Share Posted November 21, 2012 I am trying to see if I get issues but currently 8 core vCPU is working fine. Just to clarify previous post unsupported doesn't mean it will not work, just that VMware have enough doubt that they will not actively support anything other than a 1 vCPU in Fusion 5, where the code is obviously supported. I am wondering if it is related to a non-standard XNU kernel and processor. Can you attach to a post the vmware.log file, and the system log from the guest after a crash.
