TPS
Hi I have read that different people use the Harman Kardon USB SoundSticks with their OSX86 mac, but when I plug in mine nothing happens. Here is my hardware details: ASRock P4Dual-915GL motherboard (onboard AC97 audio) 3.0 GHz Intel P4 JaS 10.4.7 installed AC97 audio works like a charm. /Tobias
slave-zeo
go to the Menubar item GO > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup Select the Soundsticks (USB Audio) as the default output. Since your AC '97 works it is defualting to it instead of the soundsticks. hopefully this helps.
Vitaliy
when you install osx there's option to install driver for external soundblaster.. people reported that this driver works with all external soundcards
tha_toadman
my wife has a pair of these with her old Imac and I'd like to get them working with my 'hackintosh' too. can a person manually install the files (rather than reinstall) from the JaS 10.4.6 (or 10.4.7) disc/update? TPS
Hi again! Thanks for the reply's First I tried looking at the Audio MIDI Setup app, but only the AC97 driver was present. Then I inserted my JaS 10.4.7 installer disc and navigated to System -> Installation -> Packages -> SoundBlaster.USB.Audio.Support.pkg and installed that package. Then a reboot, and now my Soundsticks works! I can still select AC97 if I want that. Thanks for the tips! /Tobias

JanosX
Everything here has got me real close. I have done everything above, but my sound is bad, all scratches and pops. Is there an easy tweak, I'm guessing that I am actually having a possible usb issue? Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks to everyone for helping me get this far!! Hiho, i had the same on my asus-sli/opteron system. U need to replace the IOUSBFamily.kext with the one who is on the DVD. inside the pkg is a different .kext, than the one on the dvd. After replacing it, your system will run fine again. I was without keyboard and mmouse, coz both is wireless and connected via USB:/ replace the kext repair permissions (chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions && chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions && touch /System/Library/Extensions( delete kextcaches (rm /system/library/Extensions.kextcache, rm /system/library/Extensions.mkext) and do a reboot..your USB will work again cu, codo
ArisingFlame
I don't know if you'd call it a "Soundstick" but whenever I try to install the mac drivers for my TonePort UX1 (My USB Audio device) at the end of the install it demands a reboot. On boot the OS constantly looks for something related to audio that isn't there, and it refuses to continue until it is found, so it renders my OSX (Tubgirl AMD only 10.4.10) useless. Any suggestions/fixes?

tha_toadman
wow, i can't believe it's been a year already! i hooked up the soundsticks to another machine (running osx 10.4.9). i may try at this again and keep you all posted.
tha_toadman
LOL! too funny, on my other machine, they were literally 'plug-n-play'. I just went into 'sys prefs - sound' and sure enough, the 4th one down was 'soundsticks'. I fired up iTunes and there it was...sound out of the sticks! FYI, I'm running an ALC882 chipset and installed JaS 10.4.8 and then upgraded to JaS 10.4.9. ArisingFlame, I hope this helps.
