BrandonG
FYI - I just locked myself out of my 10.5.1 - something must've gone wrong when I was in there and typed: sudo dd if=boot1h of=/dev/rdisk1s2 rdisk1s2 is the second HDD I have in my computer that I have installed SL onto. But now I can't boot my machine at all - I think I'm screwed. So now I'm on a MacBook and am re-making the flash drive in hopes that I can boot using the Flash Drive, install SL on my 2nd HDD, and somehow get that 2nd HDD to boot properly. I can then reinstall my apps and restore my data from my backup drive. Would someone please refresh my memory on exactly what I need to have on the flash drive to make sure this will work for me on my Dell 410 AND HOW TO DO IT?? I'm restoring the SL DVD install files now, then I know that I need to install Chameleon RC3-r658. I know that I also need to put the modded boot1h on there, and also the kexts, dsdt, com.apple.plist, BUT I NEED HELP TO MAKE SURE I DO IT CORRECTLY. I also need a refresher on how to install the kext files correctly. Please help - I need to use my machine this weekend, and I need to get this done ASAP. Thanks again for everyone's help. ==Brandon
G3erry
Thanks - I'll try it this afternoon. Now, assuming I can get this to work, would it be possible for me to clone my current HDD to the new HDD and run through this process to essentially UPGRADE my current setup to 10.6.1? ==Brandon I don't think this process will work for upgrading. Instead, you could install 10.6 into a new disk/partition and then use Migration Assistant from there to transfer all the accouns/info. You need to choose "From a TimeMachine backup or other disk" and choose the 10.5 disk That's all.

G3erry
Good idea - I'll do that. Any thoughts on my other post? ==Brandon You can use the same Migration Assistan procedure to restore your data from the 10.5 partition that is not booting anymore after having installed a fresh new 10.6 into a different disk. I did it in the past to restore data from a not booting 10.5 paartition( due to wrong kexts) Cheers

RQUITOLA
I would LOVE to know how you were able to get it to install. I have been trying for a month with no success. I have it installed on a new HDD, but when I select the HDD from the boot disk options (after initial boot, pressing F12 gives me the list of bootable devices), all I get is: boot0: GPT boot0: testing boot0: testing boot0: done boot1: error If there is a better process I should be following to get this installed (I have a retail disk for Snow Leopard), I'm all ears! I'm not interested in a dual boot setup with another OS - just need 10.6.1 for my Dell 410. Thanks in advance, Brandon I was having the same issue as well but managed to get it install using the guide on the OSx86 Wiki. Easy and fool proof. http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.ph..._Leopard_Method That is the guide I used and did it couple of times with the same results. You need to use migration assistant for transferring apps coz when I used the backup, my SL won't boot. I guess you gotta keep the install clean. Good luck.. BrandonG
I'll post my dsdt when I get home I'm at work now. Any one have a version of transmission that works with snow leopard that's not banned at broken stones? After spending much of the day working on this, I was finally able to get it working. Thanks again to everyone for your help! ==Brandon

Thanks again to everyone for your help! ==Brandon Brandon which method did you uese to install SL? I am still not able to install correctly. My second HDD (used for Sl) is so slow when I try to install from first one with 10.5 I know there is a thread about IRQs confict, I followed it , but no result Thanks

BrandonG
I didn't follow the instructions that Rob and G3erry posted exactly - I was trying to take some shortcuts, and that did me in every time. Right now, I'm up and running, but I don't feel like this is very stable compared to when I was running Kalyway 10.5.1. For example, when I use VirtualBox, running either a virtualized XP session or Windows 7 session, my machine spontaneously reboots at random times (I've only seen this happen when VirtualBox is running). I am running the latest OS X version of VirtualBox (version 3.0.8). Also, I had to get a new video card in my Dell yesterday because my previous one died during all of my installation trials. I now have an NVidea GeForce 9800 GT (1GB) and need a kext for it. It appears to be working fine now, but every now and then, the fan on top of the card revvs up very fast and the machine locks up. I don't want this card to die, so if anyone can help me out with a kext for it, I would appreciate it. Also, I would like to know if, when Snow Leopard point releases are available (i.e. 10.6.2), if it is okay to install them without screwing up my installation. Thanks again for everyone's help - I really do appreciate it! ==Brandon
Rob G
Brandon it depends what the update changes but if you a disabler kext for the Cpu power management kext and fakesmc then u should be fine

Rob G
I uploaded a boot.plst for snow Leo on this thread with some other stuff a few pages back it has the efi string for the nvidia 7300 a few pages back and as for the time issues in window I don't have a fix for that
Sgerber
Can you tell me how to use the EFI string or is there a way to check to see if I have it already? Thanks, Brandon Whats your video card model? and memory size? maybe i can generate a file for you. But the way of doing it is: 1. Get a copy of EFI Studio 2. open efi studio and look for your video card model and memory size 3. click ADD Device 4 on the botom box will generate a hex code copy all that and paste it on your boot.plist file on the extra folder like this <key>device-properties</key> <string>HEX CODE GOES HERE - BUNCH OF NUMBERS</string>

Also, I tried to install the Logitech control center for my Logitech Cordless Click Plus mouse, and it screwed up my mouse settings really bad. Had to uninstall it. So as it stands now, I can't program the thumb forward and back buttons that I used to be able to use. Any thoughts on how to get that driver to work? BrandonG
How was the 9800 under leopard. I've been looking at buying one for a little bit. I just got it after I got SL up and running. It appears to be working fine, but every now and then, the fan starts spinning very fast and the machine locks up and shuts down. I think I need an EFI string or a kext for it. Still looking for that. Also, I am having troubles with my keyboard. Sometimes after I boot, I am not able to use the keyboard to enter my password to get into SL. I have to reboot and try again. Sometimes it takes several tries. Any thoughts on that? Thanks, Brandon
Rob G
I have had no issues with the keyboard at all, I use an apple keyboard and mighty mouse. That new magic mouse is looking pretty sweet.

peyronnx
Hi frantisheq, Yes I did! Firstly, I modified my dsdt.aml at Device (PCI0) to make sure that I get Name (_UID, Zero). And then, GraphicsEnabler works. Snow Leopard works great on my XPS 410, except resolution changing which is buggy.... See my files attached. crashwg
I've read through the entire thread and then patiently waited for my HDDs and 16G flash drive to arrive and now I'm trying to install Snow Leopard. Here's what I've done: I've followed RobG's instructions posted here- http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...t&p=1282323 Used this package, also posted by RobG Snow_Leo_XPS_410_64_Bit.zip http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...t&p=1289920 But instead of using the boot1h file included with the above package used the one here to prevent the boot1 error- http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...t&p=1297352 When booting w/o the -v toggle from the flash drive I get the no smoking sign. When booting w/ the -v toggle I get: MAC Framework successfully initialized using 10485 buffer headers and 4096 cluster IO buffer headers IOAPIC: Version 0x20 Vectors 64:87 ACPI: System Stat [S0 S3 S4 S5] (S3) RTC: Only single RAM bank (128 bytes) AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement: Enabling legacy HPET check netkas presents fakesmc, a kext which emulates smc device mbinit: done (64 MB memory set for mbuf pool) From path: "uuid", Waiting for boot volume with UUID CD8FC506-2BBB-32A8-9B86-3887582C2783 Waiting on <dict ID="0"><key>IOProviderClass</key><string ID="1">IOResources</string><key>IOresourceMatch</key><string ID="2">bo ot-uuid-media</string></dict> venderid: 0x8086 deviceid: 0x104b.
