Rob G
No matter what I do i cant get past waiting on root device. Any ideas?
frantisheq
i think that the best thing we can do right now is just wait for Dune's patched kext. the problem is same in IDE mode and in AHCI mode which scares me a little bit because in AHCI mode all i had to do was adding dev id or use AppleAHCIPort injector and everything worked now i have to wait for patched kext and in the end i'll have to use IDE mode. no ahci because adding dev id won't help and i'm not sure if there ever was some patched kext for ICH8 AHCI
Rob G
I finally got 10.6 to boot and install after countless restarts but now i am getting wait for root device and have not yet been able to boot to the finnished product.
frantisheq
SUCCESS!!!!!! finally i'm able to boot w/o any problems in AHCI mode. i have to HDD's. Leopard on disk0 and Snow Leo on disk1. after i disconnected Leopard HDD and connected Snow Leo HDD from SATA1 to SATA0 i'm able to boot in AHCI using Chameleon on USB flash drive. i still get KP ( something about IOStaorageFamily anf fsck_hfs) after the installation process starts so no screenshots yet
SticMAC™
Running perfect off USB! I will play with the AHCI settings and let you know! SticMAC EDIT: Success!! after editing the AHCI kext and clearing the cache the internal drives came up immediately! They show Untitled 1/2 as they are from a Windows 7 installation! And the DVD Drive is showing! I will now CCC the USB Drive to it and see if boots from there Something I forgot... 64-bit Kernel and Extensions: Yes
frantisheq
i have tried to reduce RAM from 8GB to 4GB. installation started fine and there was some progress but then again KP - process: Mac OS Install. after reducing RAM to 2GB it won't even load kexts just black screen EDIT: tried 64bit mode but i always get KP's after i run the installation. last one was caused by windowserver. i have disabled all optional items like X11 or fonts but no difference
SticMAC™
According to the "official" pages Chameleon doesn't support RAID also not when running drives in the RAID option... I used an older Chameleon set, Chameleon1 -SL.dmg, it does not have the fancy boot options but works! There's an install that actually works from within Snow Leopard and it has a boot file that needs to be copied over! I also removed the Extra/com.apple.Boot.plist as it ignores it. It does loads the kexts in the Extensions folder! Once I put the EFI string in the original Boot.plist everything was back to Normal
frantisheq
thx for the info. i'll give it a try EDIT: "Step by step, day by day..." after replacing netkas' boot with the one from modbin no more KP's on Chameleon2 RC2 but after the installation is nearly finished i get error that mac os x can't be installed on selected partition. Thx again SticMAC

frantisheq
just install chameleon2 rc2 on USB flash drive and replace files with those i uploaded but i have found some bugs. if you want to boot you must have 2 bootable partitions on HDD so there will be 2 icons for example Leopard and Snow Leopard. Now if you want to boot Snow Leopard first you have to push arrow on keyboard to move selection to Leopard then again back on Snow Leopard or else it won't find mach_kernel and boot with rd=diskXsY -f sorry for my english i hope you know what i mean another problem is that that the second HDD is working only if snow leopard HDD is doing something. but that happened to me on leopard as well sometimes. there was no such problem in IDE mode so maybe patched kext from Dune will fix this
