Care to detail how you did it?

- i have created DSDT - http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...t=0&start=0

- installed update

- i'm on PC_EFI v9 but it looks like my kexts in /Extras were ignored as older versions so i had to reboot from Mac OS DVD and install patched kexts into /System/Library/Extensions

- reboot and voila

I tried JaS 10.5.4 Server/Client version that I downloaded and it installs good, but I get a no root device once it boots from the hard drive. Also I found a fix to have our dell 410's boot from Auto/Raid OR Raid On and this will do away with the no root device on booting from the Dvd. But I still get the error on many distros after the install is complete.

I attached the file below. Just open it in notepad, save it as Mergeide.reg or Raid.reg, whatever you want. And make sure you are in windows, then click on it to have it placed in the registry. Now you can restart your 410, go into Bios, change SATA operation from Raid On to Auto/Raid or whatever the other option we have there; You will see that windows will still boot without a problem and now many distros will also read from your DVD drive and possibly install fine as well.

Only problem now is that after the install, when it tries to boot from hard drive some distros will say no root device. So sometimes u gota go back in after the install and switch the SATA operation to the other one, hopefull it should work but I haven't found any of the latest distros to boot after installing, except Ideneb v3 10.5.5 but I have no sound in that one. I think I may start fresh if I had a guide or some way to figure out what I need to install and which version to use.

I can see it through the blacked-out spot from your screenshot... When I look at it from an angle on an LCD monitor... lol.

Has anyone got their x1300 Graphics Crard to work with 10.5.5 or 10.5.6? I had been using 10.5.4 since iATKOS 4i became available and had a near perfect running osx install. But a few days ago I decided to upgrade from 5.4 to 5.6. I managed to install the update without any hiccups but once it came to reinstalling my kexts all worked but ATI_For_QE_CI. It left me with the Blue Screen Hang just before the login. I also tried 5.5 but I get the same problem (sometimes it's worse as I get Full Screen Artifacts).

Everything else seems to work with no problems appart from ATI_For_QE_CI so I'm not able to get QE...

Getting a new Graphics Card isn't an option at the moment (but will happen) but has anyone else come across similar problems and/or found a solution/s to correct this? I'm egar to get this working but it is becoming very frustrating that this card is once again being an utter pain.

@ frantisheq: Could you please give us more details about the way you succeed in updating Leopard to 10.5.6 (combo update, standard one)? It's a fu..... mess for me. Package of your modified kexts will be useful. Thx

@ peyronnx: sorry maybe later but i recommend Boot from EFI by Munky and don't forget to boost versions of your kexts by editing Info.plist in kexts

I think I need to invest in a new graphics card, QE/CI keeps persisting on causing problems in 10.5.5/6 with my X1300. What would you guy's recommend getting? I'm after something that is atleast as good as the X1300 but not too expensive. I was thinking HD 2600 XT...

I've decided to go with a 8800GTS, it'll be my first Nvidia card so I'm quite excited to get it, I just can not decide whether to get the 320MB or the 640MB. The only difference is the VMemory size, so I'm not sure if I should bother with paying the extra £££ for the 640MB.

I have a perfectly running 10.5.1 Kaly version of OS X running on my Dell 410, but I am nervous about upgrading to the latest version of Leopard, 10.5.6. Can I safely do the Mac OS X Update Combined thru Software Update or is there another process I should use to ensure that nothing gets screwed up?

Thanks very much in advance!!

I'm wanting to get back in the game using Leopard on my XPS 410. I downloaded the iDeneb v1.3 10.5.5 release, but no matter if I select any of the addons or not, I can't boot into leopard. I either get the "waiting for root device" error or the gray apple screen with a no symbol. Anyone else had any luck with iDeneb? If so, how? If there's a better way to install Leopard and get to a 10.5.5 or 10.5.6 release, please let me know.

Before when I had Leopard installed, I used the Kalyway release, but I'm looking for a quicker way of getting to 10.5.5 or 10.5.6 right off the bat. Please help!

Thanks everyone in advance!

Just a quick question, it's not really an OSX related question but a 9200/410 question.

I've been thinking of upgrading my processor in my 9200 from a Core 2 Duo (2.13ghz) to a Core 2 Quad. I've read that it's possible without having to also change the mobo, but anything above the Q6700 isnt compatible. I'm just wondering if anyone has done this? and can confirm the Q6700 thing.

I managed to get 10.4.9 installed on my XPS 410. I had to go the route of taking the drive out and installing it on a machine via the VMWare trick. Fortunately the performance I got with the VMWare machine ( horrible to say the least, on another 410 I have.. Which I know really doesn't matter ) is nothing like the performance I am getting with the drive in the dedicated machine.

I have been able to get almost every item in the box working, with the exception of the following.. For some reason during the install, no matter what I did, I was only able to "access"/see 128GB of my 148GB HD, in RAW/Unformatted. In Windows the drive showed the full capacity, but that really doesn't matter much to me as I don't intend on using that much space anyway.

The real problem I seem to be having, even though the fix seems to be posted everywhere, IE http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...28138&st=20 is the audio. I have used the STAC9227_83847618.txt and several variations of the AppleHDAPatcher, all with no success. Unfortunately I don't know how to diagnose the problem ( specifically tell what the box is actually seeing etc ), other than its not showing up in the output devices in "Preferences"

Any guidance is much appreciated!

I actually found in the System Profiler, that it says "Intel High Definition Audio:" Unfortunately there is no available devices listed underneath it.

for anyone still having problem with STAC9227 maybe the VoodooHDA driver will help you. it works pretty well with my.

Download VoodooHDA-0.2.2wprefpane and install kext in the package. do not install it in /Extra. after reboot my audio worked with Mute as a bonus ;)

And these are kexts i'm using: Extensions.zip

Use IOATAFamily.kext in IDE Mode or AppleAHCIPort.kext in AHCI mode.

EDIT: I have both IOATAFamily.kext and AppleAHCIPort.kext in EFI/Extra but Chameleon 2 gives me boot1 error in AHCI mode so i have to use IDE mode. should work with other bootloaders though. just press F8 at boot prompt after you change the mode and use -f -v to rebuild kext cache
