Fixed! I dont know what was wrong with it, but it works now! I dont even know how i fixed it :)

I wanted to know how efficient time machine is at backing things up, i have a spare drive identical to the one im using to run osx and i was thinking about using it as a slave and filling it with the time machine backups... will it backup my vmware fusion files too? How about the application itself?

Or better yet, how could i set up a raid?

I had that problem too. Don't know what went wrong but i just left it for 10 minutes and it eventually booted. However every subsequent boot was just as slow until i formatted the disk with the problem. I think some part of the boot sector got corrupted and it drove the Intel AHCI manager crazy.

Time machine will back up everything in your user account and your applications. The VMWare disks are in your user account from what i remember.

I have been using Time Machine for about two days now. I have a 500GB SATA drive that was one Vista partition. I shrank the Vista partition to 300GB and gave the Mac 200GB to use.

When I originally tried to get Time Machine to run, I kept getting an error message that I couldn't solve. I wish I could remember the exact error message, but I failed to write it down. :( I made sure I had all of the updates but 10.5.4 and it finally worked. After I had about a days worth of backups, I went ahead with the 10.5.4 update through the Software Update tool. It worked just fine. (BTW--I did the original install from Kaly's 10.5.2 DVD, then used Kaly's 10.5.3 upgrade)

My suggestion is: get all of the updates you can and make sure that you're using Time Machine on a disk that's completely separate from your main system disk. I actually run my OS from an external USB drive, and things run quite efficiently.

same here. i have tried to format HDD's but no change so i have tried to install windows bootloader, then ubuntu and then again Mac OS but no go. looks like i have to live with it. it started after month ago when i tried to defragment my drives (don't ask me why ;) ) and it f.... up my partition table so i reinstalled mac os and tried Chameleon DFE for HDD from kaly with which my efi strings didn't work so i reinstalled PC_EFI from netkas and voila! i have to wait and wait and wait but not everytime

today i wiped out mac os and installed windows because of that BIOS waiting problem so i have turned on NIC in BIOS but it just doesn't work. i get "NIC Failure" message after all RAID BIOS {censored} so i would like to know if it's the same with all you guys having that waiting problem.

My onboard NIC still works fine. It might be a different hardware problem. Or it may be that your onboard NIC is conflicting with you PCI NIC.

Did you fix the waiting at the RAID BIOS screen? In my case it wasn't caused by a drive Mac OS was on or could even see. It was caused by my RAID drive that booted windows.

EDIT: Do you have the latest bios?

i have formated all hdd's. reinstalled mac os and "waiting problem" was gone but it was back after 2 days. i also tried to flash older BIOS and then latest again but that didn't help so now i'm on linux and no waiting

Got speedstep working with vanilla kernel by using IntelEnhancedSpeedStep_1.3.2.kext and tuxx_SpeedStep_improved_beta from http://code.google.com/p/xnu-speedstep/

and sleep with vanilla by using EHCISleepEnabler from http://www.superhai.com/darwin.html. only problem i have is that

sleep -> wake = sound no go

but after

sleep -> wake -> sleep -> wake sound works again and then sleep -> wake = sound works -> sleep -> wake = sound works...

"System Preferences" - "Energy Saver" - "Schedule..." - "Start up or wake"/"Sleep" works

I'm back again

Anyways, anyone know how to update to 10.5.3 from kalyway 10.5.2? Yes I read your posts Rob and it's sort of a hassle going through that much trouble to install efi (LOL i'm lazy). Of course, there's always OSx86tools. But anyways I've already tried the ToH installer and it won't work for me.

When I try update from Kalyway the whole OS crashes at 40% copied. No matter if I choose 10.5.3, or 4 or 5. Then I get "Still waiting for root device" and it's a "hybrid" install that doesn't work.

Anyone have any news on using boot-132? I'm curious as to whether that will work on XPS410 but I want to keep windows until I know that it'll definitely work, because it'll take maybe 4 hours to do that.

Or maybe I should try iATKOS v4

The 82566 driver works great, while I had 10.5.2 it went smoothly until that stupid install.

EDIT: Ooops, ToH isn't 10.5.2! it's 9a581 (forgot)

So.... now what?

@frantisheq. How did you succeed in making the rear microphone working? I used HDApatcher 1.16 + EFI to get the speakers work but now I try yo use the rear microphone line in and it fails.... Any idea. Hackintosh only sees the internal microphone which doesn't work.

Thx

Hey folks. Great forum.

I have a Dell XPS 410 and before I delve into this, I wonder whether it'd be worth it or not:

Core 2 Duo E6600

ATI Radio X1300/X1550

Creative Labs SB X-Fi

Dell 24" 2407WFP Widescreen LCD Monitor

Logitech 2.1 X230 speakers/subwoofer

Linksys WUSB54GC Wireless adapter

Microsoft Wireless Multimedia Keyboard 1.1

Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse 2000

Can anyone see at a glance any irremediable conflicts? I've been reading this thread and it looks like different configurations of the XPS 410 have been used in this adventure. I'm curious to see whether mine can run mostly successfully with Kalyway or iDeneb. I'm also concerned I might overwrite some of my existing HD data if I partition it if I do a MacOS install.

Thanks to anybody who knows enough to reply!
