Thank you for the quick response but unfortunately:

 

Assuming that what you are referring to when you say "Turn raid to auto that should fix the problem" is in the bios settings going to Drives-SATA Operation and selecting "RAID Autodetect / ATA"...

 

I did that and got:

You'll notice a couple small changes from the last posting but the big ones are the "AppleIntellPIIXPATA: 80-conductor cable..." ones. This computer doesn't even have IDE headers on the board.

 

Also, leaving the "SATA Operation" set to "RAID Autodetect / ATA" results in Win XP Pro 32bit giving me a BSOD.

Update, which doesn't get me anywhere but might help you help me.

 

I've upgraded my firmware to the latest 2.5.3 which did not change any of the options in the bios and therefor did not allow me to get any further.

 

What did get me just a tiny bit further was this:

To create my install, and do anything OS X related really, I've been using an iDeneb 1.5.1 install. This install boots most of the time so it has a verified working chameleon install.

 

So what I did was, in my bios, set the boot priority to that iDeneb install. When Chameleon loads, I hit a key to load the other boot options and select my Snow Leopard installer flash drive. Hooray, the installer actually boots! Unfortunately that's about as far as I can get because the flash drive is the only drive that shows up in Disk Utility.

 

In attempts to further diagnose that problem I opened Terminal and enter "diskutil list" which returns:

Unless I misunderstand what you are saying I'm already doing that.

 

I cannot make the flash drive device-0 as far as my knowledge of PCs goes but when I set the flash drive as the first device in the boot order I get one of the two situations that I've typed out in the code tag boxes in my posts #951 and #953.

 

When I set the iDeneb install as device-0 and also as #1 in the boot order I get either:

A. iDeneb 1.5.1 if I do nothing during the boot process

B. What I explained in my next most recent post if I hit a key in Chameleon and choose the flash drive

 

By the way Rob G, thank you for all the help you're providing. I'm not sure I'll ever get Snow Leopard up and running on this XPS 410 of mine but I do know that without the help of people like you the chances are none.

 

I really appreciate it.

 

Did you ever get that image of your install up on the web somewhere? Perhaps if I had that I could skip over some of the frustration I've been having.

 

If it's out there, where, and what do I do with it once I get it?

Try using a retail copy of snow leopard and Cham rc3 on a flash drive with the kext and dsdt provided in this thread and I can be of more help. The image I've been trying to do isn't working. I don't have a lot of time but I plan on devoting a few hours this sat and Sunday to trying to make a xps 410 snow Leo installer it will probly take untill Sunday to do it but Ill do my best. Just try to use a retail copy exactly as it's explained on this tread it should help. I'll try to help u in any way I can. Sorry this is such a pain in the ass.

Found the solution to "Still waiting for root device" on my XPS 410 (BIOS 2.5.0).. Find out the UUID of your flash drive in Disk Utility and replace the existing value in the Boot.plist with yours and also in the Info.plist inside the package PlatformUUID.kext..

 

Hope this helps.. Now my installer boots.. I'll see after the setup if it works :rolleyes:

 

I used the kexts provided on this thread in the file called "SNOW LEO XPS 410 64 BIT".

Success with Snow Leo, but..

 

I installed it on an Apple Software RAID stripe with 2 discs, followed the guide here, but I couldn't make it boot.

I eventually managed to boot the installation with the USB by adding to the Boot.plist on my Snow HD the string "rd=disk3", which is the disk where the raid is mounted.

 

The computer hangs at the boot screen after "boot0: done" when I try to boot with one of my raid discs.

 

Oh, and it only works with Raid Auto in Bios :(

 

Any ideas ?

Cant wait for an installer! That would be awesome! Ive been on 10.5.7 and like it but i LOVE SnowLeopard on the Macbook i bought my sister!

 

Just out of curiosity, any tips or tricks to making Leo run faster? Intel SpeedStep or anything else?

 

What kexts are recommended for a flawless install? Im super happy with everything but like any other geek, want more!

Hi Everyone,

 

I've been following this thread closely for the last few weeks and been having similar problems to some other posters with snow leopard not booting after install on my Dimension 9200 (410), using the guide posted by Rob G with working Boot1h etc, and i'm getting the same root device not found error. In the end I discovered your Snow disk HAS to be on the DRIVE 0 Sata connection on the Motherboard. In my case it is the only Blue connecter. Then hey presto Snow now boots!! :wacko:

 

Also as I think this has been mentioned before, but i'll say it again. SATA connector 4 and 5 (last two) do not work at all for me. And also RAID ON doesn't work for me yet. But has My Windows 7 install is not set to work with RAID ON its no big deal.

 

Im still trying to get network working, but as I have a spare USB network adaptor I can make this post from my new snow install.

 

Big thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread, but if I can help anyone myself, I will, I will check back on this thread from time to time over the next week or so.

What Graphics Cards are people using on the xps 410 so i can add the option to install the supported ones with the installer. please only list if you know your card is supported.

 

By "know your card is supported" do you refer specifically to Snow Leopard or OS X in general?

 

I ask because mine is working fine in 10.5.7 but I have no idea about SL.

 

It's a ATI Radeon X1300 BTW...

You will need to have a flash drive with cham rc3 and moddified boot to boot after your have installed. to fix that just boot with flash drive then install cham on the snow leo HD. Due to the different video cards people are using i will be posting a pack of kext here in a while that has the boot.plist with the efi strings for the 7300le. you have to install that your self. The installer i made will just install the nessesary kext for your computer to boot leopard and have sound and internet. Video is up to you. I have never made an OS installer befor so sorry i couldnt intgrate the cham installation but all the major problems have been covered i will be making a better one soon, So Please Post all kext for hardware that you would like to see supported and feel free to let me know of any issues you have with the installer. Message me for the link.

Hi!

 

I have succesully installed Snow Leopard on my Dell Dimension 9200 using the files supplied in this thread. (not the ISO)

 

I got all my devices running (network, graphics, sound, ata and so on..)

 

But i get random application freezes (Not Responding). Its different applications all the time... sometimes its system preferences and other times its an application like VLC.

 

Anyone got any suggestions?

Can You Please Explain To Me What Is It EXACTLY THAT I Need with this torrent you uploaded. I downloaded the torrent and i couldn't boot it. the only time i could actually get into it was if i was already in Leopard. I Have a XPS 410 And I Want To Get Snow Leopard Running.
