frantisheq
ok but first i'll try to inject AHCI dev id's using DSDT so there will be no need for patched AHCI kext or AHCIPort injector and also if i'm able to boot off the second HDD. i'm going away in an hour so tomorrow maybe
frantisheq
patching IRQ in DSDT enabled my xps to boot in IDE mode again no need to wait for DuNe's patched AppleIntelPIIXATA kext and we can use EFI partition again for Chameleon! because in AHCI i have to use USB flash drive. just edit DSDT as written here http://www.projectosx.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=564 and add DEV ID 28208086 to AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext. ok have to go. good luck for now

Ikahrus
I'm having problems with tranmission crashing in 10.6.1 any one else having the same problem? I had the same problem with 1.74 and 1.75 on 10.5.8 Going back to 1.73 seems to work. No idea with 10.6.1 though, but I can imagine it will be the same problem. BrandonG
So is someone willing and able to create a complete blow by blow write-up for how to upgrade to a fully functional 10.6 (or 10.6.1)? I am currently on 10.5.1 and will need something like that to get a novice like me to a working version of Snow Leopard. Thanks, Brandon
Rob G
Get Your Self copy of snow leo from where every you like just make sure it is an un-moddified retail copy. Get a extra HDD Partition or a 10 GB flash drive and Partition it as GUID. Restore that HDD partition or Flash Drive from the Snow Leo Disk Image. Install The Chameleon boot loader to the Snow Leo HDD partition or Flash Drive, (included in the file link below) Copy the extensions folder, DSDT and boot.plst that in the download to the Extra folder on the Snow Leo HDD of flash drive Turn Raid on or Leave it off it doesnt Matter. Boot From Your Snow Leo HDD Or Flash Drive. Select The Install Mac OS X Image From The Installer GUI. If you get "Cant Find Mach Kernel" just move the selector to another drive in the GUI then back to Install OS X image. Partition The Drive you are installing your Snow Leo To as GUID and install. After Reboot install Voodoo HDA To System/Library/Extentions from the /Extra Folder and open software update and select the 10.6.1 update and click update. Reboot You Now have a fully working Retail Snow Leo install running with 64 bit kernel and extentions. Sound works as well as full video and Network. GOOD LUCK!!!! Here is all you need for the XPS 410 and Snow Leopard http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=ad0ba7a...04e75f6e8ebb871
BrandonG
Thank you very much!! I will give it a try and will let you know how it goes. One other question - are you able to apply OS updates from Apple with this configuration (i.e. when 10.6.2 is released)? ==Brandon
Rob G
I don't know how to update to 10.6.2 it hasn't been realeased. As far as I know it only works with software update if the kernel isn't part of the update
BrandonG
Rob, I've been studying your steps, but instead of doing a completely new installation, what I would like to do is clone my current setup (under 10.5.1) with all of my applications, documents, settings, etc. to a new HDD and upgrade it to 10.6.1. I have a copy of SuperDuper, so cloning the drive won't be a problem, but what changes to your procedure would I need to make to accomplish the upgrade? Thanks again for your help! ==Brandon
BrandonG
Rob- I couldn't get Chameleon R2 to install, so I downloaded and installed R3, and that worked. I did everything else you said, but when I boot with the USB stick containing the bootloader and the SL install files, everything appears to load, but I get stuck on the grey screen of death with the spinning pinwheel. Any suggestions? Thanks, Brandon
Rob G
R u using the modified boot that's in the sl folder? If not try copying the boot from the folder I uploaded to the root of ur flash drive make sure you have the dsdt in the extra folder on your flash drive aswell as all the extensions and to upgrade just make sure the disk you are upgrading is guid partition or snow leopard won't let you install
BrandonG
Rob- Thanks again for all of your help! I was able to get 10.6.1 loaded up onto a 2nd internal HDD and it is working great, with 2 exceptions. 1. The only way I can get into it is by booting using the USB stick, then selecting the HDD in the Chameleon bootloader. When I try to boot from the HDD directly, I get the following: boot0: GPT boot0: testing boot0: testing boot0: done boot1: error 2. The second problem is that I have no sound. Thanks again! ==Brandon
