Audio Files -> Music

Movie Files -> Movies

Image Files -> Pictures

Applications -> Applications

The Rest -> Documents

I don't have a user interface...

hi guys :) about OSX desktop, it annoyes me a lot the fact that when i dispose icons'position on the desk and after i reboot the system i found that they are in the very same position they were before i'd disposed them.I think these are system original positions,but it'd be nice if we'd have the possibility to customize it once forever so that we don't have to move them from time to time.Dunno if it is somethin'already done or impossible to do.It sounds like an annoying thing to me.

Regards,

Federico

I agree with whomever said it before, I think the most annoying thing about OSX is that folders are not listed on the top of a finder window with files underneath, but are instead mixed in with the files. Is there any way to fix this?

sort by type in show view options *should* correct that. I always sort by name... so I'm not positive.

Hi everyone! I'm new to the forum but I like to try various app to work better with the os! Is it right that the only thing to do with iArrange is to drag the audio or image file over the dock icon and BOOM, the file is in the right folder! This is right for me only with audio files, any other kind is put in Documents (I tried only with some .jpg and .3gp): a big thank you for this app!

I have an ideia and i dont know what you guys will think about it. let me try to explain.

Copy/Move files ( draging with mouse )

normaly, you need to press mouse button, hold and navigate over the volumes/folders to move the files. The ideia is to do the same but without hold the click all the time. I mean, hold the click for 3 secs and the files will stay with the mouse pointer ( same way when you are dragging them ) and you can release the click and navigate to whatever you want and then you hold click for more 3 secs again to release the files.

This will give you a free navigate to copy/move your files without holding the left click. in the app prefferences you can set how many secs to wait to get the files, to copy or move etc..

well, just an ideia.. i know you can just cut/paste or copy/paste but with why not simplify it with the mouse?

hope someone can understand it ! ^_^ sorry for my english !

I love that idea, (your english is fine BTW) does this count as desktop? its more finder, but either way it should be made... wait but it would interfere with mighty mouses (mice?)

iArrange is similar to my idea, but I want a Desktop icon for MoveMac and I also want preferences, and I want it to be a daemon as opposed to an app that appears in the dock.

If the admins/mods wanna throw it in the xlabs and make it a community project, I'll run it

What I hate is that the GUI and desktop for OSX it does not matter whether your using a 800x600 resolution monitor, or a 1440x900 monitor because OS X is still the same size and all. In XP I love how on my iMac I have so much space for my windows and everything, but on OSX everything is just the same ratio to the number of pixels.

I would like an app that adds "Macintosh" onto the desktop so i can have less icons on my desktop.

I download alot and many many files end up on my desktop. I wish i could drag them to the "Macintosh" hard disk and they would just go to their corresponding assigned' locations' depending on file type. All pictures go to pictures. If not on the macintosh hard disk logo then on a "Auto organise" logo or so..

It would be amazing to have documents organised this way...

yes this is for Finder.. about mice, i think it can be configured in the app preferences.. anyway if one button only mouse, its left click only, so i think it will be confuse.

Again i think it will be very nice to have this app.. everybody knows how hard is to copy files/folders dragging them with the mouse.

My annoyance is when it comes to saving files. You know those dialogs that just have the filename and a drop down list of places? What if I want to save the file to a folder inside another? Mainly the applications fault for using that type of dialog box, but it's annoying having to move files afterwards to where I want them.

Another anoyance is getting used to the knew keyboard navigation methods. I've used Windows since v3.1 and so have come accustomed to the way the navigation works for selecting everything (e.g. shift & home, not command & shift & left/right arrow). However I did find an application that allows me to use Windows behaviour of certain keys (DoubleCommand I think it's called), but decided not to use it as it creates new annoying things.

Final one for now is the disk utilities are very limited. There's no way to defrag your drive in OSX. I had to get a program called Drive Genius which allows me to do it. Maybe the mainenance scripts do it for you as well, I don't know.

A great tool that everyone should get though is OnyX. It allows you to change alot of options, including showing hidden files and extra dock settings etc. Also allows you to run maintenance scripts, change the scheduling and many other things. EXTREMELY useful.

Good idea, but i wouldn't go for the time delay option,as I have found many times on different OS's that sometimes when the system takes a while to respond that you suddenly get your cue of actions take place in one huge go....this could cause problems witht he delay when the system does a mini-hang type thing, and OSX could think that you have done the 3 second delay when in fact you havn't - it just took it's sweet time to repsond to a normal mouse click!

You should not use a program to defrag ur disk.. Mac os X does it by itself.

Everyday when u boot or in background sometimes... or when u install an application.. (optimizing) thats what it means..

Mac os has its own way of defragmenting ur drive any other way will make ur os slower..

i see your point. Maybe if it occurs you will see the files ( fading icons ) moving with the cursor so you can press "ESC" to cancel..

Perhaps you could left click (hold) then right click, and the file would piggyback onto the cursor. A little icon would appear on the cursor. And as you change folders normally, and find the correct one, the only way to release it is to left click (hold) and then right click again. Or maybe use the middle button instead,for those that have it?

Maybe if you left click (hold) right click, it copy/pastes? and then right click(hold) left click, it cut/pastes?

Is it possible for a program to monitor the mouse in such a way?

I don't believe you understand what I'm saying. You've probably noticed on Windows, the bigger the screen the more room you have for windows and the larger your desktop, but on Mac no matter how big your screen is, your desktop and windows all still take up the same space on the screen.

Maybe I haven't used enough OS X apps.. But the save file dialog has a little arrow you can click to see your FULL file system, not just your list of favorites, desktop, home dir, etc. I haven't seen any other dialogs .....
