user1220
Hi to everyone using the NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS on Mountain Lion 10.8.4! I had massive issues getting the card to work with 10.8.4, from black screens to missing QE/CI. But now I'm happy to say: I've got it working! So I thought I'd share my solution with you: Neither GraphicsEnabler nor Enabler-kexts worked for me, the way to success for me was to use an EFI-string. I basically followed this guide. It's pretty old, but still works fine. However, in order to be able to follow the steps in this tutorial, I first had to overcome the black screen after boot, so I could see something. I booted into single user mode (-s), mounted the HDD read-write enabled and deleted all the NVIDIA-kexts using rm -r /System/Library/Extensions/NV*. If you haven't already modified or replaced the NVIDIA-Kexts, you'll make your life easier if you backup those kexts before you delete them, because you will need to restore them later! It's no big deal though if you don't have a backup, because the kexts, specifically NVDANV50Hal.kext, NVDAResman.kext and NVDAStartup.kext can be easily extracted from the Mac OS X 10.8.4 Combo Update using Pacifist. Deleting these kexts, though only allowing for a terrible resolution of 1024x768, will bypass the blackscreen issue and allow you to set up your EFI-string. Remember to set GraphicsEnabler=No and to delete all Injection/Enabler-kexts before setting up the EFI-String. Then you can start to follow the guide. Once you're finished with your EFI-string and have placed it in your org.chameleon.Boot.plist, don't reboot! You first need to restore the NVIDIA-kexts. Use either your backup or extract the original kexts from the 10.8.4 Combo update. Install them using Kext Wizard or Kext Utility. And that's it. At least that was all I had to do to make it work. Good Luck!

Ethanje
Just a quick update, works fine in 10.9GM... Still no dual monitors though, anyone manage to solve this irritating bug? I'm using XFX 8400GS 512MB, VGA(Monitor) / DVI(To TV via HDMI). When I plug the DVI in both screens go black, shame because everything else works flawlessly. Would love dual working though.
