Kit67
Hi Everyone! I have 2 computers, One running Iatkos L2 updated to 10.7.4 with 6GB Ram 1066MHz NVidiad GTX 550Ti - and the other Windows 7 X64 Ultimate 5GB Ram 1066MHz. NVidia GeForce 9500GT. Both have the same mobo (GA-X58-USB3) and CPU (intel i7 950 @ 3.06GHz) This is pretty much a fresh install with patched DSDT. Novabench Scores: Windows 7 Lion 10.7.4 System Ram Score 148 132 CPU Test Score 681 328 Graphics Test Score 32 316 Hardware Test Score 28 25 TOTAL 889 801 My main issue here is with the CPU. I seem to be losing a least 50% of cpu performance on Lion. Could someone please point me in the right direction as to how I could improve my CPU score on Lion. Thank You All! Funkoyote
Try with this DSDT_http://bayfiles.com/file/fGmz/kXFYEj/DSDT-GA-X58-USB3-F4_i7_950.zip Includes i7 950 PStates. You also need to edit your org.chameleon.Boot.plist without GeneratePStates. Example: <key>CSTUsingSystemIO</key> <string>Yes</string> <key>DropSSDT</key> <string>Yes</string> <key>EnableC2State</key> <string>Yes</string> <key>EnableC3State</key> <string>Yes</string> <key>EnableC4State</key> <string>Yes</string> <key>EthernetBuiltIn</key> <string>Yes</string> <key>GenerateCStates</key> <string>Yes</string> <key>SystemType</key> <string>3</string> <key>UseKernelCache</key> <string>Yes</string>
Kit67
Hi Funkoyote, thanks for taking the time. Did what you suggested but still not much difference. 2012-07-05 14:23:08 +0000 Mac OS X 10.7.4 Intel Core i7 @ 3070 MHz Graphics Card: GeForce GTX 550 Ti 6144 MB System RAM (Score: 133) - RAM Speed: 2828 MB/s CPU Tests (Score: 337)(pc>681) - Floating Point Operations/Second: 143402336 (pc>207212608) - Integer Operations/Second: 258383488 (pc>738520784) - MD5 Hashes Calculated/Second: 497994 (pc>993809) Graphics Tests (Score: 288) - 3D Frames Per Second: 1102 Hardware Tests (Score: 24) - Primary Partition Capacity: 465 GB - Drive Write Speed: 84 MB/s <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd"> <plist version="1.0"> <dict> <key>CSTUsingSystemIO</key> <string>Yes</string> <key>DropSSDT</key> <string>Yes</string> <key>EnableC2State</key> <string>Yes</string> <key>EnableC3State</key> <string>Yes</string> <key>EnableC4State</key> <string>Yes</string> <key>EthernetBuiltIn</key> <string>Yes</string> <key>GenerateCStates</key> <string>Yes</string> <key>GraphicsEnabler</key> <string>Yes</string> <key>Kernel</key> <string>mach_kernel</string> <key>Kernel Flags</key> <string>npci=0x3000 darkwake=0</string> <key>Legacy Logo</key> <string>Yes</string> <key>Timeout</key> <string>2</string> <key>UseKernelCache</key> <string>Yes</string> </dict> </plist>
Funkoyote
Did you have the F4 version of your BIOS? Maybe the problem is in your BIOS settings. Check if All Cores, TurboMode, Hyperthreading, CStates....are enabled. And you don't need your Kernel Flags npci=0x3000 darkwake=0
eep357
Have you tried geekbench for comparison with diff benchmark util, or cinebench will quickly show how many cores/threads are working by how many slides it processes at the same time. For chameleon you dont need both cst using system io and generate c states both, but with proper DSDT you shouldn't need either nor the enable c3, c4, etc. make sure appleintelpowermanagement and lpc are loading, if you have nullcpupowermanagement.kext remove it. Also curiously when i was doing some testing the other day, removing UusBusFix=Yes from boot.plist lowered scores by a couple thousand points, so maybe try adding it to yours
Kit67
Hi, Thank you for your help guys! Yep you were right Funkoyote. Different bios versions. Win 7 had F2 Bios and iAtkos had been upgraded to F4. Somehow the F2 version(Win 7) seem to be running the cpu clock faster than the F4 version(iATKOS L2)...hmmmmm, might have to downgrade my bios back to F2 version. Of course I did copy all bios setting exactly the same yet F2 bios CPU still clocked faster. I even swapped CPUs just for arguments sake and yet the F2 bios still clocked faster. Now just have to downgrade bios back to F2 will post results later....cheers!!! Oh and since I have dual boot on my Iatkos, I booted into Win 7 and had a cpu score of 390. Still no where near F2 bios version!
Funkoyote
F2 BIOS makes faster CPU clock than F4? That doesn't have sense. The only important thing is configure BIOS with the correct settings.

I also upped the cpu multiplier from 23 to 24 which is the max for ga-x58-usb3 board. I also did that on F4 bio but only got up to 380 on cpu score. Somehowo the F2 bios is way faster then F4. Funkoyote
Please, take a look to this GA-EX58 and GA-X58A DSDT native power management modifica... I believe that you are going by the wrong way. Have you read what eep357 tells you? Have you tried geekbench for comparison with diff benchmark util, or cinebench will quickly show how many cores/threads are working by how many slides it processes at the same time. Kit67
I Just did a test (x64) on Geekbench and got a score of 10538 (with Nullcpupowermanagement) and 10263 (with out Nullcpupowermanagement kext)
eep357
That would be about right as far as slight dip in bench score with speedstep enabled vs not enabled using NullCPUPowermangement, speed step won't help performance, but it will help your electric bill a whole bunch, unless you run benchmarks 24/7. Did you add the UsbBusFix to your boot.plist? I don't need it for USB function since it's handled in my DSDT, but apparently that fix effects the entire smbus for the better. At the speeds your running right now your scores are just about where they should be tho. Gotta add a gigahurt to that to get into the 13,000 range
Kit67
Just did another test without NullCpuPowermanagement and I added UsbBusFix to boot.plist and got a score of 10475. Still I'm happy just to get it over the 10,000 mark considering I was hitting the 5000 range a couple of days ago. Thank you for your help Funkoyote and eep357. eep357
Sweet, looks spot on where it should be with standard HD and stuff. As you bump up the BCLK the memory and GPU will follow. Most notably though you beat the snot out of you Windows scores, so congratulations to you sir!
