But AFAIK they cannot modify nor repackage it like they usually do, so it will still be Clover no matter how hard they try to hide it.

In case there is GPL code in Clover, they can make some kind of ChimeraUEFI out of it as long as they publish the modified sources and mention the origin which I`m pretty sure they will do in a hidden place so that noobs won´t find it.

Clover is based on multiple projects but mostly on EDK2 which is under BSD license.

That's bad news for us and good news for adolfmacx86 because the BSD license doesn't require him to publish modified sources at all which means he can embrace and expand the project while keeping modified sources secret as long as the documentation includes the original copyright notice. But let's be real about one thing: most users won't ever read this legal stuff anyway.   :(

Still even if the license allows them to do their usual thing (borrow and rebrand), seeing their current "work" I don't think they're capable of handling a project like Clover. Even if they only add a theme and rebrand some parts, they won't be able to help their minions with problems that may arise without the assistance of a real developer.

This is a problem they already solved successfully with any other of their projects by using their killer argument: not supported, not compatible, you are banned!

Well, community is not the right word to describe it. From their point of view it's more like a herd in order to make money...

Oh, tonymacwannabex86 vs. the not-that-popular-anymore distro!

Just was googling around and stumbled across a post as to why tonymacwannabe doesn't support distros.  The OP made me laugh at this part:

DO NOT INSTALL THESE THINGS: Installing a hacked operating system onto your computer risks your personal information and your precious data. Anything could be in these .isos- keyloggers, spambots, viruses, who knows.

Yeah, because cybercriminals have smartened up their resources and have now realized the best way to infect computers is to put their malware in the ever-so-popular OSx86 distros!  That's what everyone is doing today instead of MS Windows piracy and WGA cracks!!   :hysterical:  :hysterical:  :hysterical:  :hysterical:  :hysterical:  :hysterical:  :hysterical:

And if the Hackintosh scene has "evolved" as they said, distros would be more so a n00b's resort.  It wouldn't be that hard to create one.  All one would have to do is download Mavericks from the app store, run the install image script, install a bootloader, modify OSinstall.mpkg to include post-install kexts installation, and slap the modded install image on some piracy site.

Plus, the mention of spambots?  If a spambot got ahold of Tonymacwannabex86's registration page, a user could find themselves unable to logon due to their clever IP blacklisting method for banned users.  Not to mention how many bots on that wannabe's forum ban the odd user more often than YouTube's content ID flagging false positives.

And, to top it all off, we have the n00bs who replied to that thread saying things like "Why use distros when Unimonster and Multimonster can load an official OS copy much better?"  Yeah, because it's not like that wannabe Tony infringed the copyright of other developers when developing Unimonster.  Oh, wait: MyHack...

Don't get me wrong: I have legally purchased copies of Mountain Lion and Leopard (that's right, version 10.5.6), so I don't really use distros all that much anymore.  While the OSx86 scene has changed a lot since the prevalence of distros, Hackintoshes are only getting better without that Chimealong Chameleon rippoff.  I mean, now we're using modded bios to host the bootloader in the firmware!  Tony, with all his progress in helping the scene would have come up with that idea (or steal the code from the developer) in, let's see... Never!

And with that, let's never use distros because of all the malware people are loading in them... NOT!!!  :hysterical:  :hysterical:

I was banned from Tonymac for mentioning MLPostFactor, a utility that allows old Macs (and old Hackintoshes with little to no tweaking) to run Mountain Lion. Someone wanted to know how to get their unsupported card running on there. Sure, it's an "ugly" method of getting ML on your computer but piracy wasn't even mentioned. They really want you to use the tools they provide and nothing else. After seeing this thread, I used MyHack to get Mavericks running in the end (same for my custom build with Intel HD 4000 :D). Don't really want to support Tonymac anymore.

The big problem with ##### is that it hides all the files except the Install OS X app. What for? Agreed. Put it simply, I'm lazy. However, as mentioned, I don't really want to use their software, but you have to admit that they make lives a lot easier. Now, once again, if there's a script/alternative to ##### to automate the process here, please, tell me. I will switch to it at once.

I do't know exactly what ##### does but I guess MyHack and Pandora could make for a similar automated replacement. Still it's much better to follow a guide because with a step by step description you actually know what's going on and could even modify it to your liking.

Why would you do that? Just update from the AppStore and let Clover do all the patching on the fly. I've been doing that for a while now and now I'm even running the beta mavericks seeds without issue. And always keep a TM backup ready in case anything go bad.

Well, I didn't know that. I have no idea how to use Clover, so I'm sticking to Chameleon for now. ##### is apparently almost a line-by-line rip-off and rebrand of MyHack, taken when the latter was still open source. That's one of the reasons why I don't want to use tmx86 stuff.

Unfortunately my Samsung laptop is currently WIA. For some reason, Chameleon doesn't boot; it gets stuck at boot0:done, and I have a single hard drive set as MBR with one NTFS Windows partition, and one HFS+ OS X partition. I have to use the USB installer to be able to get to OS X. (I've tried the 4K sector fix, but no dice).

I've ordered the new Razer Blade (3200 x 1800 screen, completely epic); I want to wait and get a new M.2 drive for that before I mess with drives. I think I will run OS X off an external hard drive before I do anything with the internals.

As a side note, to be honest, I'm also active at their forum (as are a few other users here) because there are many people with my laptop model/related models there. I'm neutral about where I offer my help; as long as people benefit, I'm happy.

There is an easier way, SRSR333, buy a friggin' mac and don't pretend to be a hacker.  I look forward to making new USB installers manually.  Why don't you enjoy it?  Why are you even here? To get a "mac" for cheap?  Sheesh!

I enjoy hacking but not wasting time doing something manually. I'm a student with not a lot of time, and if there's a faster way to get things done, I use it. Now that someone's mentioned MyHack, it looks far better than #####, and as a matter of fact I intend to reformat my USB drive as soon as possible to use MyHack.

You're getting uptight because I appear to be supportive of tmx86; I don't. However, there is one point which I want to make: his site and software are noob-friendly. Let's face it: many new hackintoshers start there then move here. That's because his site happens to be the first few hits on Google. In fact, I did so myself, three years ago.

Finally, how does not enjoying making USB drives make me pretend to be a hacker? That's one hell of a sweeping statement, mate.

I don't quite comprehend how you use Unib€ast when there is an easier and faster way to go without using tonymacx86 tools:

 1. Partition a USB pen drive with GPT.
 2. Use the Apple recommended method to create a Mavericks USB installer.
 3. Install Clover (including kexts to inject) in the EFI partition of the pen drive. Provided you are using Clover to boot from your hard disk this is just a drag and drop install.

Isn't it ironic that even tonymacx86 recommends this method in a guide on his website admitting himself that Unib€ast is obsolete.

Yeah, he did. I'm just beginning to research Clover. My laptop's UEFI implementation is messed up, so I'm using Chameleon now. Once I get my Blade, though, I intend to move. But clover seems much more complicated.

I get frustrated when people want to have Hackinstoshes but don't want to learn beans about how that is accomplished.  That is why I am opposed to all of the beasts and other installer apps.  The only people who learn anything are the developers of the apps.  While they may be well-intended, they open the door for noobs who have little or no interest in learning about the OS X operating system to run OS X on their PC's.  All you need to do is read some of the tutorials on this site and you will learn how to extract the files needed to make your own USB installer with your own DSDT and SSDT.  Personally, after years of experimenting with numerous versions of OS X, starting with Leopard, I am somewhat saddened at just how easy it has become to upgrade my laptop.  I have a laptop with specs that greatly exceed those of any mac laptop, including a 17-inch screen (although it's only HD 1080p display), 16 GHz of DDR3 memory, 2x1TB hard drives and 1 mSata 256 GB Solid State drive, and Beats audio with its own subwoofer.  That's my reason for not buying a mac - there isn't anything like what I have.  (Oh, and mine also has an aluminum body.)

In any event, I hope you will post in the future about your success at learning about OS X and customizing it to your particular system and not just taking some hack app made by an experienced developer to make a cool laptop/computer without paying the price demanded by Apple.  I'd hate to think that the OSx86 community has come to that.

Oh, and one last thing, I started this post a long time ago because I was banned by Tonymacx86 for telling someone how to install OS X on an MBR partition.  Small wonder they don't show you the files to allow you to install  using a beast app on an MBR partition.
