mnfesq
I just wanted to share this tidbit of news with my friends from both boards. It seems that it was very wrong of me to recommend to a fellow member in a post that he try Nawcom's version of OSInstall.mpkg in order to install Lion on an MBR partition. In fact, it appears that it was very wrong of me to even acknowledge that OS X can be installed on an MBR partition. I was bad, very bad. And now, I have paid the price. Hopefully, I will still see some of my Tonymac friends here.
Popular Post Alessandro17
Sorry to read that, which finally seems to prove my point. Do you remember this post? No measure whatsoever was taken against you for simply expressing an opinion. Nor against notshy. Unfortunately I had to take eelhead's posting rights away because he insisted on attacking InsanelyMac and on calling us "pirates", which is blatantly not true, as we do not condone piracy in any way. True, I have decided that distributions can be discussed (without links to torrents or to other pirated software), because doing otherwise would have meant denying our past, when distributions were the only available solution, and hindering our present users who still wish to use distributions. Needless to say, you are welcome to develop your full potential here, without any restriction other than the forum rules. And even so, we do not ban so easily, most of times a temporary measure is plenty.

davidkozat88
Thats is quite sad, I was just banned from the chat room in TonyMacx, suggesting a method of installing ML DP... someone ask me where I got it from and all I said was... I rather not disclose my source as to not get in trouble by the legality of how I obtained it... Only Banned from the Chat room though, I can still login..

jamiethemorris
Yeah, me too... Reason? For discussing a legitimately purchased version of snow leopard and netbookinstaller to install it on my friend's netbook. The reason for "blatant disregard for discussion of pirated OS X." Um... what? How is purchasing snow leopard piracy? The conclusion i came to was because I didn't use his installation software to install OS X on the netbook, EVEN THOUGH I used it to install on my desktop and was helpful in troubleshooting for the community there. After that, I did a little bit of research on him and found that not only did he steal other developer's credit for his products, he ILLEGALLY never released the source for "his" kernel that had the code stolen from qoopz, nawcom, and several others (read about that here: http://prasys.info/2...ymac-seriously/). Next time I need to install OS X on a pc, I will not be using his software. Even though it is an easy way to install OS X, I refuse to support him, and I am educated enough now that I don't need it. I find it fun to do it the hard way, too... And you end up with a better-functioning computer. I didn't use his SMBios, either. For those of you that don't know, the SMBios version in it says his domain name. Obviously the sole reason for that is to promote his website via Geekbench. It also brands your model name in Geekbench as "Hackintosh" instead of a real mac model... Screw that. No one there knows what they're doing anyway... You know, the real ins and outs of OS X. How to build chameleon from the source, how to use a different kernel, how to add your device ID to kexts, how to make a better DSDT than the ones off of his website, how to install kexts from the terminal, how to install better kexts than many of the ones included in his software, how to get QE/CI on a GMA915, and of course... General troubleshooting. In some cases, they'll just tell you you're screwed, which is usually far from the case. I learned all of that from websites like this one. So basically, the man is a thief, a hypocrite, a pathetic excuse for a developer, and generally a piece of s**t. Thank you InsanelyMac, for being a far better learning and troubleshooting resource. I have a partially working install of retail (that's right, not the developer version) on my Dell Mini that I'm working on, without his software or the help of his forum. I couldn't have done it without this website, and I'm pretty sure that if I decide to ask, you guys can help me can a working version.
SRSR333
Yeah, I've been banned too, for a post I made one and a half years ago. I said, "you need a ##### installer, or a torrent for OS X Lion" with an emoticon next to it. It was meant as a joke. At first, I thought it was something else, but I freaking got PERMANENTLY banned for a freaking joke. What the hell. I think I'll be moving to this forum from now on. Someone direct me to the laptop threads?? Edit: For reasons unknown, they've let me back in.. with most of my posts intact, except the above one, I think.
Alessandro17
I hope these people will eventually pay for what they have done. If, as we suspect, they were originally Psystar, they are making a profit both from Apple's work and, worse, from our developers.
iDarwin
Well everyone, I know this post is a bit late, but I was just banned 2 days ago from Tony's site. My offense? Registering with more than one email address (which is *now* against the rules). Being a user of the site and finding and giving help for over two years I was a bit stunned one day to find that the site was literally not reachable. Any browser on any device I use (iPad over WiFi, PC, Macbook, etc *at home* cannot find the address. Since I'm not a complete dummy I figured out that Tony has implemented a considerably sophistacated system within his revamped website to prevent banned users from accessing the site. What happens before your IP is blocked is you are allowed to log onto the banned account, but unable to change any settings. During this time the site will launch scripts in the background (you will notice them launching in the browser) to capture your device info as well as the IP address. That information then goes onto a black list, which in effect hides the website's existance from any device operating on that particular IP. To test this I went to my library and tried logging onto my banned accounts. The exact same thing happened: couldn't change settings, scripts ran, logged out, closed browser, opened browser and typed URL.... Nothing. Using yet another computer (which hadn't touched his website before), I went to the local community college and hopped on the WiFi, created a new account (which used a completely different email address from the others used to create accounts), and was good to go. I should now be able to use that account to sign into the website via a proxy server - but you have to be careful, because his site detects the popular proxy websites and blocks them. So how's that hackintosh community spirit Tony? I created multiple accounts, using different email addresses, but I had my reasons, and I wasn't spamming anyone. Tony's blatent copying of the work of others in the community is also maddening. I wish more people knew who the real Tony and Mac Man were....... UPDATE: I re-registered to Tony's site only because a few people needed my help. I in no way condone the website or its tools/resources. InsanelyMac is my new home. I hope these people will eventually pay for what they have done. If, as we suspect, they were originally Psystar, they are making a profit both from Apple's work and, worse, from our developers. Let's just hope the rest of the worldwide hackintosh community doesn't have to pay with them. If Apple ever takes legal action against Tony let's hope they understand that he doesn't represent the hackintosh community and that *he* is the one infringing on copyrights and stealing material from both Apple and the hackintosh devs.
eep357
Sorry to hear about that, usually when registering with a second email, you'd just get an error saying that username has already been used, or if both are new and your not a spammer, it's OK since some houses have more than one person living in them. Not sure how many you had, but it was more than 3, I can kinda see where that could trigger an automated blacklisting. Sometimes this can be a good thing too, like if by accident you didn't have protected wifi so the whole neighborhood was using your connection to signup and download torrents somewhere or something (I've seen a lot of people turn all security off just because they didn't know how to set up their devices-bad idea). As for the "considerably sophistacated system within his revamped website ", lets not give too much credit here, it's just a basic block/blacklist of your public IP address, and yes if you go to another location and try to log into your blocked account it will cause that public IP to be banned as well, otherwise it would be pretty useless. What I would wonder is if your account showed as canceled or still active to other users, cause if they're going to ban you, I would think they should close it. iDarwin
Hi all thanks for the response. I'm not a networking guru, but my friend told me, as mentioned by others who replied, that it is a simple IP black list. The major point here is that I was blocked, but only after being allowed to log in to the banned account. This shows they were purposefully leaving it up to keep the info contributed to their community whilst blocking me out as much as possible. Also keep in mind that I was never notified of any violations, and this rule didn't exist back when it was just a blogspot account.

Long Cat
Yesterday I had a very extensive 'user build' post I had written deleted from the tonymacx86 forums for a very similar reason to mnfesq, posting a link to a guide which allowed OSX to be installed on an MBR partition. I then attempted to contact the staff, apologising for the rule breach and asking that my thread be restored so as I could re-post it without the offending passage. Then they banned me. Apparently this all accounts to "Blatant disregard of forum policies on piracy, posting links to sites that promote piracy or contains pirated software." I secretly suspect they treated me so harshly because I didn't include Amazon or Newegg links in my post. What a bunch of jerks. And certainly not the introduction to the Hackintosh community I was hoping for. On an unrelated forum where I hold a staff position, I would probably lose my job for treating members with such contempt. Hopefully I've found a nicer forum... see you guys around.

SRSR333
Actually, it isn't tonymac or MacMan or Toleda or any of the mods doing this BS banning, it's this user, ModBot. Really irritating. But to the above poster, I dunno why you got such an unreasonable response, because I explained my situation via the contact page on their site and got back in. Maybe the guy who is the person behind ModBot was just having a bad day...
