suri2001
Hi folks, Once, i had a stable system. i ran jas10.4.6 and thanx to following bofors howtobuildyourbox-thread, my machine is as close to real macs as possible, speaking of 945gntlkr, pentium d 930, and everythging worked like a charm. Then, itunes 7 came out. I installed it, then the new QT, everything was fine, except itunes (MPIP103_10.4.7.SMB.CIFS.APF.FIX.dmg) wouldnt play music. reinstalled itunes7, everything worked. Then, i got tempted to do the jas10.4.7 update, so i did (without kexts), followed by semjas 10.4.7 decrypts. then SU notified me about Security Update 2006-004, i looked it up, installed it. after that i installed the jas10.4.7 patch (MPIP103_10.4.7.SMB.CIFS.APF.FIX.dmg), all worked. NOT QUITE. Because since i did all that, the gui response seems a bit sluggish (i.e. when opening folders, the contents dont show up as quickly as before, interaction when pressing play in itunes sometimes as well), but worst: After working a while, the systems freezes! Cant reproduce the error, Cant move cursor, im forced to reboot, but the drive light is active (drive is r/w)? Waiting patiently doesnt work either. Did permissions, diskutil, applejack, Onyx, the usual suspects. Found that parallels driver isnt loading (im running osx natively, just use it for win running parallell to mac sometimes) and that i got duplicate extensions, but dont know what to do now. a complete reinstall is a nightmare, so please be so kind to help me out. this is what the console says (things that seem strange to me, i marked) Sep 15 12:01:01 mash-ms-computer shutdown: reboot by mashm: Sep 15 12:01:01 mash-ms-computer SystemStarter[219]: "/Library/StartupItems/Tablet" failed security check: permissions Sep 15 12:01:01 mash-ms-computer kernel[0]: (237: ps)tfp: failed on 0: Sep 15 12:01:01 mash-ms-computer SystemStarter[219]: authentication service (227) did not complete successfully Sep 15 12:01:01 mash-ms-computer kernel[0]: (237: ps)tfp: failed on 0: Sep 15 12:01:01 mash-ms-computer kernel[0]: (243: ps)tfp: failed on 0: Sep 15 12:01:01 mash-ms-computer kernel[0]: (243: ps)tfp: failed on 0: Sep 15 12:01:02 mash-ms-computer kernel[0]: (270: ps)tfp: failed on 0: Sep 15 12:01:02 mash-ms-computer SystemStarter[219]: Parallels VirtualMachine drivers (235) did not complete successfully Sep 15 12:01:02 mash-ms-computer kernel[0]: (270: ps)tfp: failed on 0: Sep 15 12:01:02 mash-ms-computer kernel[0]: (271: ps)tfp: failed on 0: Sep 15 12:01:02 mash-ms-computer kernel[0]: (271: ps)tfp: failed on 0: Sep 15 12:01:02 mash-ms-computer kernel[0]: (272: ps)tfp: failed on 0: Sep 15 12:01:02 mash-ms-computer kernel[0]: (272: ps)tfp: failed on 0: Sep 15 12:01:02 mash-ms-computer kernel[0]: (273: ps)tfp: failed on 0: Sep 15 12:01:02 mash-ms-computer kernel[0]: (273: ps)tfp: failed on 0: Sep 15 12:01:02 mash-ms-computer kernel[0]: (274: ps)tfp: failed on 0: Sep 15 12:01:02 mash-ms-computer kernel[0]: (274: ps)tfp: failed on 0: Sep 15 12:01:02 mash-ms-computer kernel[0]: (276: ps)tfp: failed on 0: Sep 15 12:01:02 mash-ms-computer kernel[0]: (276: ps)tfp: failed on 0: Sep 15 12:01:02 mash-ms-computer kernel[0]: (278: ps)tfp: failed on 0: Sep 15 12:01:02 mash-ms-computer kernel[0]: (278: ps)tfp: failed on 0: Sep 15 12:01:02 mash-ms-computer kernel[0]: (280: ps)tfp: failed on 0: Sep 15 12:01:02 mash-ms-computer SystemStarter[219]: The following StartupItems failed to properly start: Sep 15 12:01:02 mash-ms-computer kernel[0]: (280: ps)tfp: failed on 0: Sep 15 12:01:02 mash-ms-computer SystemStarter[219]: /System/Library/StartupItems/AuthServer Sep 15 12:01:38 localhost kernel[0]: hi mem tramps at 0xffe00000 Sep 15 12:01:38 localhost kernel[0]: PAE enabled Sep 15 12:01:38 localhost kernel[0]: standard timeslicing quantum is 10000 us Sep 15 12:01:38 localhost kernel[0]: vm_page_bootstrap: 512265 free pages Sep 15 12:01:38 localhost kernel[0]: mig_table_max_displ = 71 Sep 15 12:01:38 localhost kernel[0]: CPU identification: Intel® Pentium® D CPU 3.40GHz Sep 15 12:01:38 localhost kernel[0]: CPU features: FPU VME DE PSE TSC MSR PAE MCE CX8 APIC SEP MTRR PGE MCA CMOV PAT PSE36 CLFSH DS ACPI MMX FXSR SSE SSE2 SS HTT TM SSE3 MON DSCPL VMX EST CX16 TPR Sep 15 12:01:38 localhost kernel[0]: HTT: 2 cores per package; 2 logical cpus per package Sep 15 12:01:38 localhost kernel[0]: CPU extended features: XD EM64T Sep 15 12:01:38 localhost kernel[0]: Enabling XMM register save/restore and SSE/SSE2 opcodes Sep 15 12:01:38 localhost kernel[0]: [RTCLOCK] frequency 3400000000 (3399546480) Sep 15 12:01:38 localhost kernel[0]: ACPI CA 20051117 [debug level=0 layer=0] Sep 15 12:01:38 localhost kernel[0]: AppleACPICPU: ProcessorApicId=1 LocalApicId=0 Enabled Sep 15 12:01:38 localhost kernel[0]: AppleACPICPU: ProcessorApicId=2 LocalApicId=1 Enabled Sep 15 12:01:38 localhost kernel[0]: AppleACPICPU: ProcessorApicId=3 LocalApicId=130 Disabled Sep 15 12:01:38 localhost kernel[0]: AppleACPICPU: ProcessorApicId=4 LocalApicId=131 Disabled Sep 15 12:01:38 localhost kernel[0]: Copyright © 1982, 1986, 1989, 1991, 1993 Sep 15 12:01:38 localhost kernel[0]: The Regents of the University of California. Rammjet
I have just about all of those errors on mine during startup. And of the errors that you have that I don't have, I don't see anything serious to cause your slowdown. Xeijin
Yup I have alot of those errors too. My system was really sluggish and would occasionally crash too, after I installed the 10.4.7 update. I then did a reformat and started fresh with my 10.4.6 Goatsecx DVD and then did the update again and it all seems to be fine. Maybe try that? suri2001
thx to both of you, system runs more stable now, after reinstalling latest updates. but still crashes now and then, but not that often anymore... sigh... saddam lennon
hi, it's not so bad for me yet, but.. I run 10.4.7 JaS, and have been happy with both iTunes 6 and QuickTime. After upgrading both to latest versions from System Update, I got: - iTunes won't start. After accepting license agreement it tries to allocate 4gb of RAM, which ends up with out of memory message and the app quits. - quicktime will play some of the movies, but extremely sluggish. for most movies it will just quit with error message. I still did not install the latest security update, I got quite afraid of updates... anybody knows what's wrong with latest QT or iTunes? Do they need a patch too? greg Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/27718-after-upd-to-itunes7qt-1046jas-to-47-secupd004-sort-of-fubared/#findComment-191073 Share on other sites
