Hi guys,

I'm new to building computers and I want to give hackintoshes a try, and maybe dual boot. I've been watching tech vids on Youtube for years. Now I've decided I want get a used office pc to dual boot win with mac. If anyone can guide with that, and with the coding, it would nice.

Sorry for the mouthful, just excited!

Hello from Ireland :)

I'm glad to be part of this forum - I've spent quite a while researching, and tomorrow the hardware for my Hackintosh will arrive. This machine is a home office machine, aimed to take workload off my office machine (company owned) and allow me to work from home when I want. I will be dual-booting Mac OS and RHEL/Fedora. Mac because I like Mac, having grown up with it, and to use my creativity/productivity tools. RHEL for test and proof-of-concept deployments of OpenStack and OpenShift and generally to get more familiar with Linux. I would also like to play some games on Windows.

Here is the spec:

CPU
i7 9700k

CPU cooler
Noctua NH-D15
Will fit the Designare motherboard leaving the first PCIe slot exposed for the GPU. Noctua's site says there is 32mm clearance for RAM, and Corsair's site says that their Vengeance LPX RAM is 31.5mm in height. Presumably that's total height of the chips before the RAM is installed, so I should have a couple of mm of clearance if I install the RAM before I mount the CPU cooler.

Motherboard
Gigabyte Z390 Designare
I have read success stories of Hackintoshes on this board, so I am encouraged. And it has two M.2 slots, and Thunderbolt 3. Onboard WiFi doesn't work with Mac OS apparently, but I've ordered a Fenvi unit from China that uses the Broadcom board that is natively supported.

GPU
Sapphire Radeon RX Vega 56 Pulse 8GB

Memory
Corsair Vengeance LPX 2 x 16GB 3000MHz C15
I will need to add another 2 x 16GB sticks when my bank account recovers.

Mac SSD
Samsung 970 EVO Polaris 1TB M.2 x4 NVMe SSD
I'm reading some threads about compatibility with Mac OS. Further research required. Some people online say I can do a fresh install of Mac OS directly onto this drive, and some people say I need to install onto a SATA drive and then clone onto the NVMe drive.

Linux SSD
Samsung 970 EVO Polaris 250GB M.2 x4 NVMe SSD

WiFi + Bluetooth

Fenvi FV-T919. This will fit in the lower PCI x1 slot in the motherboard.

Power supply
750w 80+ Platinum

Case
Phanteks Evolv X Glass in Galaxy Silver
The big Noctua CPU cooler fits this case without issue.

I can't wait to get started!

Dear all,

I'm form Germany and started my first Hackintosh-Projekt one week ago. At the moment still very unsuccessful.

My Hardware:

Gigabyte Z390 M Gaming

Intel Core i5-9600K

G.Skill Aegis DIMM Kit 32GB, DDR4-3000

2 x Samsung EVO Plus 500 GB (m.2)

Sapphire Nitro+ Radeon RX 580 8GD5 Special Edition

My journey started at the TonyM**-Forum, but with more information gained I endet up at a German Forum (https://www.hackintosh-forum.de/).

Where is the entry point at your forum? In your Wiki I couldn't find an installation guide for High Sierra or Mojave. Where do I start?

What is the here preferred way? Clover?

Hope I did not break any rules with my first post. If so, please excuse me.

All the best,

Phantomias

Hello Everyone,

This is NM. Hope all are doing great. I stumbled upon this forum while looking for a solution to install Mac OS X on VM ware. Intention was just to download the unlocker until I saw the good work dedicated members have done and their intentions. Really appreciate the efforts put in by all and cause they are working for.

Thank you.

Hello, all! I'm Installus, but you can call me Chaotic! :)

I'm a refugee from the forbidden one's website (tonymacx86 forums, for the moderators). I would like to say that getting audio to work is a pain. More so than having to deal with a slow Windows system.

I hope to see you all in other parts of the site!

Hi @Installus,

Welcome to InsanelyMac from another Refugee from that same Realm.  My remedy for sound was to buy a USB Audio Device, (SabreNT - less than $10), which was Plug and Play - NO Drivers needed, NO Kexts to install.  MOST USB Audio Devices work OOB, but I do HIGHLY recommend SabreNT.

Good luck.  :)

Wow, thank you for your help! I'll scrounge up whatever money I can find and buy it thru Amazon!

Now, I won't be splitting hairs and/or dying over getting sound to work.

Glad I could help.  Yes, Amazon is where I got mine from.  :)  Also, since it's just sound, you don't need to use a USB 3.0 Port for it, either.  Plug it into one of the USB 2.0 Ports on the Back Plane of the MOBO.

Timing, too.

Thanks to @Hervé , I was able to get my audio working with no external purchases! I am considering a pair of speakers for my next computer, though.

I'm NOT sure how "permanent" InsanelyMac Sound solutions are for Onboard Sound...  I found, (from the other place), that sound disappeared after about 4 Reboots...  Hence my spending $10 on the SabreNT.

Try what you have since @Hervé got your Onboard Sound working...  IF; however, it craps out after a few reboots, (like at the other place), then invest in the USB Audio Device.

Good luck.  :)

New arrival here as well.  Hello to everyone, crossing fingers I will be intelligent enough to follow the guides and help. ha  Very new to this, but I built a pc for the first time last week (9700k, z390 AORUS pro, rx580), and it amazingly booted up and now I am running Mojave from it. A few sleep/shutdown issues etc but everything else works! I will try to iron the kinks out with help in other parts of the forum.  Thanks for being here!  Especially from a novice like myself.
