I have the darwin bootloader that boots into OSx by default. Is there a way for me to alter the pbootlist so that it boots into windows by defualt?

I don't know of a way to default to windows using the mac boot.plist, you can use the chain0 file from tiger cd load it into windows and add it to your boot.ini file

I would like to know that too, I found an interesting thing, after I installed OSx, then I installed Solaris 10 and now first appears the solaris boot loader when I choose to boot OSx it now instead of start on mac, it start Solaris, so I think that a partition has to be set to something, I'm trying to figure out what's it.

I got tired of messing around with bootloaders. So I broke down and got Acronis OS Selector Acronis Disk Director.

I have XP, Ubuntu, Linspire, and OSX86 under one bootloader. The only thing you have to do is remove Grub, or set Grub to boot after 1 sec. In Mac, just set the bootlist to silent.

Don't think that will work in this situation - or at least not directly like this. Boot.ini is used only by the Windows bootloader, which is not being called (or has been overwritten) by the Darwin bootloader.

What needs to be done is to reinstall the Windows bootloader and THEN use chain0 and modify boot.ini. Reinstalling the Windows bootloader (sorry if this is not the correct technical term) is done by using your WinXP recovery or install disk and doing a Windows "rescue". One of the options somewhere is to FIXMBR (Master Boot Record) or something like that. Once this is done you get back the original Windows bootloader and your PC boots into WinXP as usual. However, your OSX86 partition should still be there. Once you're in XP modify boot.ini as suggested and you should be OK.

I will admit that I've NEVER done this, but having hosed and fixed Windows installations more times than I would want to while playing with Linux, I think this is the way of doing it.

However, the easier way would be to change the Darwin bootloader default. I suspect there should be some way of doing it, since the hard work of recognising and offering the WinXP partition as a boot option is already done. If I find out anything positive, I'll post here.

The windows bootloader will not show anything until you add the chain0 to the boot.ini -- i believe this is due to the /fastdetect option. By setting the startup disk in os x to windows, XP will boot by default, but the bootloader will only show if it has more than one option (c:\chain0 = "MacOS"). And in case for some reason it doesn't work, you can just insert your tiger dvd, wait the 8 seconds and it will boot you back into X.

BTW: I have used the recover console to fixmbr and fixboot, however it cause "Error loading operating system" error
