ReLoad
Hi, I got numerous of PM's from people using this mobo, so here is a short summary 1. Installation simple and typical w/ JaS 10.4.7 DVD using USB2-to-IDE convertor 2. PATA HDD and ODD did not works on Jmicron (SATA drives yes in AHCI mode) 3. IHC8 SATA works out of box but slow 4. AD1988a sound *outs* (2 - channel) works (similar to thread) a. Delete AppleHDA.kext: sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext b. Edit AppleAzaliaAudio.kext for matching codec's proper ID: sudo vi /System/Library/Extensions/AppleAzaliaAudio.kext/Contents/Info.plist in Realtek ALC880/ALC860 Codec Driver key change the string to: <string>0x11d41988</string> c. Edit AppleAzaliaController.kext for matching ICH8 HDA interface proper ID: sudo vi /System/Library/Extensions/AppleAzaliaAudio.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleAzaliaController.kext/Contents/Info.plist <key>IOPCIPrimaryMatch</key> change the string to: <string>0x284b8086</string> d. rainman01
Could people who have this board share their overclocking results? Please specify if you have the plain P5B or the deluxe version, the voltages, and cooling solutions. Thanks so much!

ArtificialHero
Hey I'm a longtime Mac user wanting to set up OS X on my PC. The system I have got is an Asus P5B Deluxe with an E6400 running at 2.9GHz, and an XFX GeForce 7950GT. I guess I have a couple of questions, if this is the wrong place do let me know. The first is, bottom line, is it worth it? I know it's a lot of work, but is there a light at the end of the tunnel at which point updates are simple, and the system "just works" like a real Mac. One of the main reasons I want to move completely away from Windows is its instability, and there's no point moving to OS X on PC if I'm just gonna be faced with a whole new set of problems. All of the hardware above is within the 14 day return period so if any of it is going to cause huge problems then I can exchange it for other hardware. The second question is if I have a USB2 device which works on Mac, will it work on my OS X install? I've got an audio input/output box that I use for recording that has to work for this to be worth it. I use 3 hard disks (2 SATA 1 PATA) and 2 PATA optical drives at the moment, are these all going to work or am I likely to have unfixable problems? Thanks very much for any help you can give me on this, it's much appreciated. I did take a look at the HCL but as I'm not familiar with the scene it didn't make massive amounts of sense. thedguy
Did u ever get the Jmicro SATA to work in OSX? Where did you get the string value for the ICH7 section? I tried using your number and failed, I tried throwing in a few numbers based on what I could find in windows with no luck. the asus p5b and my gigabyte boards are similar and I'd love to get the sata to work in ahci mode @ full speed. rchapoteau
I have recently bought this setup similar to yours with an p5b, and can't get OS X to see any Hard drives under utility. My drives are connected via SATA. What did you wind up doing to make OS X see the drives? Thank you.
rchapoteau
I got it working finally! Basically I connected an external USB DVD drive to the pc to boot the image. I connected my SATA drives up to the purple/black connectors on the Asus P5B an set the IDE to ACHI. All in all it really wasn't that hard to do, but just really difficult to figure out in the end, but with all the info floating around here from other people it wasn't that hard. Sgerber
ok let me xplain this one more time the osx installation was succesfull (no audio no lan) i could install osx thru usb dvd-rom all works fine, the thing is i can use jmicron to install windows actually that's the one that i am using now for windows, but i can't acces the other hard drive in CH8 be cause doesn't work en AHCI mode (just for mac) and in mac i can't acces the other disk in jmicron, i can put the other disk in CH8 but then windows won't boot cause its in AHCI mode, the thing is i can use boot os with boot hard drive but i have to change the SATA mode each time depending on the system that i am goint to use, and i am so lazzy :pirate2: i am just trying to make everything easy, fast and accesible, but osx works fine configuring sata as ACHI mode and installing thru a usb-drive sorry if i am bugging you guys, cheers. micheleq
No way to make it works for me I have P5B motherboard with D6400 Intel processor, 2GB RAM, Nvidia 7900. As for all, my IDE DVD was not working ('/com.apple.Boot.pList' error) so i used a USB2 DVD with 10.4.7 Jas OsX DVD. Ok, motherboard accepted it and now I can boot from DVD with OsX DVD I tried with a PATA HD Maxtor 320GB (master or slave), but no way. After the boot, the installation stop looking for the HD (Still waiting for the root device). I tried with a SATA HD connected to black connector (Jmicron, "raid connector") or with one of the red connector (Intel ICH8), but no way, same error of before. I tried to use it my HD in AHCI mode, but no way, same error. I tried changing the bios HD configuration, disabling ICH8 and using Jmicron, disabling Jmicron and using ICH8, trying as IDE, AHCI, Raid mode. I tried all, i think. So, what solution? I noticed someone is using Asus P5B with OsX, how u did it? Thank you for help Mike

You need to change the ICH8 files iaahci.inf & txtsetup.oem on the driver disk because the default disk is for ICH8R. The modifications from start, using the intel matrix storage driver version 6.1.0.1002. First download the floppy creator from: http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df...on&lang=eng After that, I created the floppy. On this floppy I modified two files: - iaahci.inf - txtsetup.oem Using these modifications, I can install windows using the F6 key. So, set the the intel controller to AHCI in the BIOS, install windows and press F6, use the diskette with the 2 modified files and you'll be able to run the controller in AHCI mode. I'm not sure wether NCQ is really used, I've not been able to find anything on the internet that would allow me to find out, and I don't have the time to write my own tool. ;------------- cut here for txtsetup.oem ---------- ; vaderd
Finally got my P5B Deluxe with an E6400@3200MHZ (more to come!) and 2GB RAM. Used an IDE-USB to install but will get an IDE-SATA soon. Used the skge.kext for the 2nd Yukon onboard sound - works. ADI1988 onboard sound works with the steps provided on top. My X1600XT works too so I'm really happy now! It's really smooth, the C2D rock! neoneucalyptus
Has anyone tried the RAID functionality of the board with OSX86? Is the Mac os capable of understanding a hardware ICH8 Raid natively, or do I need drivers like windows xp, or should I just use the software raid that is offered by disk utility? Did you have to set your BIOS any special way to get this to work?
vaderd
I did set the Intel SATA to AHCI, but nothing special otherwise.
a2000rick
hmm ... chaning to AHCI screws up my windows XP installation ... is there a way to change windows to use AHCI without having to reinstall it and using the F6 thing?
Bogdan_Solga
A few recommendations for P5B users: - installation goes really fast and easy using VMWare method, writing persistently on the selected partition ( the guide is also posted on this forum, search it if you need it ); - for AHCI you can build a custom installation CD using nLite ( www.nliteos.com ) and include the drivers and the modified files presented in vedrani's post ( http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...27202&st=0# ); ( I think/hope it works, I didn't tried it yet); - using the modifications from ReLoad's post ( http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...27202&st=0# ), audio, LAN and DMA are working (almost) properly; I tried JaS's Intel SSE3 combo update, but it's not working (at least for me... ) It hangs after the boot, when the white boot window appears. Anyone tried it? any recommendations? Or... anyone tried the Kiko update? My specs are: ASUS P5B Deluxe Conroe 6400 GeForce 7900 GS Samsung SATA2 HDD
tomtefar
Thinking of getting a P5B so I was wondering if someone could verify that the JMicron 363 works with IDE and/or SATA using this method?????? Please? EDIT: Got my P5B Deluxe Wifi (refurbished) and the JMicron controller works for me! See post below! EDIT2: All my posts are in regards to "10.4.8 Jas reseed DVD" (the second one). Have been using a mixed set of kernels and they all work.
