Aldini10
Hello all, I would greatly appreciate it if someone were to assist me in this problem. I recently installed iDeneb 1.3, 10.5.5 and got some patches and drivers for the ethernet, which at first did not work out of the box. I have fixed the internet problem but now every time I try to update or download a package or anything off of the internet it somehow causes the system to go into a kernel panic. My specs: Asus A8N-LA Motherboard AMD Athlon 64 x2 dual Core Processor 3800+ 2GHz 1GB DDR SDRAM @ 400 MHz nVidia GeForce 6150 LE 256 MB 250 GB SATA HDD Integrated 10/100 Base-T networking interface RealTek RTL8201CL LAN Please help as time is running out for me, I am sorry if there is a similar topic around here I have not settled into this site quite as well as I think I could have, thanks. Aldini10
I think I'll just need the nForce drivers for this to work because now OSX keeps thinking there is no ethernet cable plugged in as everything works fine when I boot into Windows Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/259098-downloading-causes-kernel-panic/#findComment-1696187 Share on other sites
Dellmantt
You could try downloading the drivers to windows. Put them on a DOS formatted Flash Drive and transfer them to the Mac side. Or transfer them using the free trai of "MacDrive" Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/259098-downloading-causes-kernel-panic/#findComment-1696199 Share on other sites
Aldini10
The problem is I don't know where to find the drivers for this. Does anyone have any idea where to find them? I have been using that method but none of the kexts or drivers seem to work. ifrit05
Use a tool such as Kext Helper to install your kexts for you. (Click the name to go to the site) Also, dont double post. Aldini10
Sorry I just had to ask real quick, and I will try Kext helper asap! Thanks edit 7:41 PM The internet works, but keeps going down every once in a while. But it still does not fix the kernel panic issue. Every time I try to update the software or watch a Youtube video the system goes into a panic. Why does it keep doing this?? Dellmantt
The link I gave you, the file goes in a kext plugin folder. Concise instructions are supplied in the post. Aldini10
I have completed the precise instructions on how to install the kext, have used Kext Helper also but it still keeps panicing Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/259098-downloading-causes-kernel-panic/#findComment-1696310 Share on other sites
Dellmantt
You did this "copy the kext to /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns" Installing it with "Kext Helper" would I thing not do that. Also have you removed any other kexts you installed for the Ethernet? Aldini10
Thanks for all the help. The network seems to be working right now. This really helped me a lot, but I am not sure if there will be another kernel panic. All the network settings seem to be working correctly right now, but I will be on a constant alert if another panic occurs. I fixed it by going into OSx86Tools, and restored OSx to its defaults. I also installed the kexts in kexthelper, I did not really get how to copy the kext into the plugins folder of the IONetworkingFamily kext. Thanks again, this really helped me get more ahead. edit- I am not sure if it is ok to install combo updates on a hackintosh but I did it and it caused a kernel panic. I guess I'll just reinstall OSX and move on with it, thanks for all the help.
