Hey /hardware/, I'm having trouble finding exactly the wireless card i need. I've read many examples of working cards.. but they fail to mention the version of osx they are using. then when they do, it turns out not to be the same one I have. When it is, its a laptop running it. So I decided to stop lurking and just ask:

P4, 512 mem(the max allowed :censored2:), Compaq mobo,

OsX 10.4.6 - JaS

Card needs to support ad-Hoc Mode

Speed must be at least 54 mbps (id actually prefer that over anything faster)

Must be PCI

Id really like if it were a hassle free installation without the need for messing with config files and xcode installations and all the such. I'm not an advanced Mac user but I hope to learn with this new installation. :D

Thanks in advance.

P.S. For all those posting their working cards.. please, ffs please put in all the specs about your comp you can.

Pic unrelated.

Okay Folks heres the thing.

I have RTFM about 10 times and either I am missing something along the way (Possibl) or it just does not want to come alive. I have followed all the examples tried them again and again and again I cannot get my on board NIC to work I have the following

MOBO Intel 865 PE Neo 2

CPU Celeron 2.4 ghz

JAS 10.4.8 realease ( love this by the way have installed 8 times now I am professional installer now )

Video Nvida Fx 5600 256 DDR MB ( got working after 3rd install after me paying attention )

not sure if the onbard nic is the Broadcom 440x or the RealTek.

After looking at the manual for the MOBO it could be either Intel Pro/100 or Pro/1000 Still not sure

I have seen a ton of posts saying the Pro/100 works how did you get it to work. What did you do?

Anyways I have a Realtek 8139 standalone card as well. My system is not seeing them. Yes I am going to try moving the card to a different slot to see if t sees it.

I have also seen a ton of posts stating this card card again how did you get it to work what did you do? In steps plesae??

I have also used a Intel Pro/100 ( not seeing this card either )

You all keep saying it works in Native Mode ( which I am going to assume for the second means put it in stupid and turn on the machine and there you go )

I need help I got the OS up and running. The On Board sound works with no flaws.

Please I am asking for some what of dedicated help. I am not a dummy when I comes to computers.

( ok time for horn blowing ) I have a 2k3 server A Suse Linux Box 2 XP Boxes a Linux/WinXp Laptop

Have been in Computer 20 yrs now ( ok horn blowing done )

Please help me figure this out. I did download the Kext for Realtek from Here b/c someone said the KEXt was messed up in the distro. ( <<< big linux word there )

I am not asking for you to move the moon or the sun or the stars ( unless you think you can do that )

I just need some help. I know I am taking the chance of getting flamed that is fine I can take the heat Please help me

VEN_8086 = Vendor ID = Intel

DEV_1229 = Device ID = 82557/8/9/0/1 Fast Ethernet LAN Controller

http://www.pcidatabase.com/vendor_details.php?id=1302

The problem is that the driver is for PowerPC and not Intel or Universal.

/System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleIntel8255x.kext

Try to find a a Mac i386 driver of use an other ethernet card.

Your answer fpresiado should be here http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=42782 , as listed in the link from my sig.

Not sure if I posted this result here too from my system. Intel Pro/1000GT works under JaS 10.4.7 and .8, but fails under Uphuck 1.3 with an instant system lock-up when accessing HTTP.

I've done a search, but it's hard to find info on this. How does the Intel PRO/1000 PT ethernet card fare? It is PCI-E.

Surprisingly my Linksys WMP54G v2 (important) works native and is detected and connects on first boot. Works as AirPort, brilliant, never a single problem, plus also works under most Linux distros and all versions of Windows including x64 ones.

The Kernel Extentions in IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/ are for PowerPC!

I downloaded Apple3Com3C90x from http://www.opensource.apple.com/darwinsource/10.4.9.x86/,

build the project and replaced the PlugIn.

rm -f /System/Library/Extensions.*

chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext

chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext

diskutil repairPermissions /

kextcache -k /System/Library/Extensions/

Reboot en VOILA :)

JaS 10.4.8 AMD Intel SSE2 SSE3 + Update -> 10.4.9 & Darwin 8.9.1

Vendor Id: 0x10B7

Short Name: 3Com

Device ID 0x9055

Chip Number: 3C905-TX

Chip Description: Fast Etherlink 10/100 PCI TX NIC

Can you go into this futher please? How do you 'build' the project?

Thanks/.
