darren cox
It was io80211family kext stopping it... In installer now, will see if the lion version works kinda {censored} if not not sure how to fix- maybe a newer wifi card?
DoiX
Hm, well... you might consider that the card is physically worn out, and the kext has nothing to do with it. Personally i'm happy with my 10euro atheros card, works out of the box (if you're using a pre 10.7.4 system version- after that you need to rollback IO80211 kext)
darren cox
Card works perfect in Lion, have replaced 10.7.4 io80211 kext and now wifi is working... weird!
mackyreddy
After using ML DP4 for few days, all i can see is ML starting up with 90 odd processes and lion 10.7.4 loads around 60 - 70 processes, where as in comparison snow on my Inspiron laptop loads 40-50 processes. I cant foresee a snow leopard kind of optimization and performance with ML. I feel its better to go back to snow on xps if its possible. Has anyone successfully booted into snow with active intel hd 3000 graphics with QE/CI ? whenever i am trying to make intel hd 3000 active, all i am getting is a scrambled screen at boot over the apple logo, when i delete intelsnb kext it boots perfectly into 1024x768 resolution. i guess the problem seems to be lying with either intelsnb kext or DSDT. Slice from projectosx forum pointed me that the problem is with edid of the lvds or the laptop screen and intel hd 3000 seems to be working but cant go live on laptop internal display but seems to be working on the second or external monitor using Mini display port, has anyone tried or have been succesfull ? or first of all does any one has this problem with laptop internal screen going scrambled when intel hd 3000 is active ? But ML = new OS snow = not really supported anymore??? Thats kind of like arguing to not use windows 7 lets install XP cause it uses less resources...Or Windows 95... EDIT Also have 100% working ML now Thanks for help. Everything that worked in Lion works as good or better, speedstep appears to be working, wifi, bluetooth, graphics, sound - happy now - just got to reinstall apps now
DoiX
@macky, revert Intel HD kext to 10.7.4 and it will work. You might want to delete Intle HD4000 kexts as well.
darren cox
Ok speedster doesn't seem to be working, tried all combinations of ssdt, generate c/p states and drop ssdt and tried older ssdt as well, all give the same score in geekbench. Patched aicpupm with the most recent patcher from the speed stepper thread, deleted nullcpupm kext, EDIT Just noticed Sleep hangs the machine too - then I have issues booting afterwards... Any ideas what changed/ needs to be done?
DoiX
For speed stepper to work you need the AICPUPM.kext from Dp4 patched, the one from 10.7.4 is only enough to not panic your system. See the speedstepper thread in News & Releases section for info on how to patch it

DoiX
oops, sorry . Use MSRDumper see where it gets stuck, the p-states i mean. Also don't forget to update your bootloader to a recent version of chameleon (not chimera) activate DropSSDT=Yes in boot.plist and boot with GeneratePStates=Yes (don't add this in the boot.plist file, it may be unstable). DP4 is not ment to be used as a main OS, there are still some stuff to be fixed/improved.
darren cox
I took the - if it don't work start again route... Speedstep now working, system sleeps but hangs on wake - well keyboard/mouse do system still responds to power button - that seems the only issue now I think patching the AppleRTC fixed the issue with restarts after sleep/shutdown
DoiX
i still insist on using the newest chameleon bootloader. System sleeps but hangs on wake... what bios version are you on? ML might be compatible with the recent dell bios now.... ( http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails?driverId=KG2M4&fileId=2905994925 ) Doesn't RTC only handle CMOS related things on Desktop PCs? darren cox
I'm actually using newest chimera... chameleon newest version wouldn't let speedstep work, and sleep didn't work either - in fact often wouldn't boot, hanging after loading the ssdt on A06 bios Just reinstalling windows on a spare drive and will try the bios that came out the other day Everything else is now working perfectly just the wake issue now - looks good for GM once it's out! EDIT OK now using A11 bios (newest). Using Chameleon to boot ML doesnt work still hangs on SSDT. using same bootloader to boot Lion works, but wake from sleep doesn't. Using Newest Chimera to boot ML works but no again wake from sleep doesn't Looks like sleep still broken in bios?
is44c
I tried to patch the LegacyHDA.kext to let the ALC275 codec work on XPS13. I used ubuntu to retrieve the codec details and follow the guide to come out the strings for the my hardware layout but still no luck. Here is the string I have ended up with. I would greatly appreciate if anyway can provide any insight. mackyreddy
@ Doix check this link http://www.osx86.net/view/2833-geforce_540m_kext_bundle.html it has Optimus supported DSDT for Acer. And Nvidia Gt 540 M seems to have been successfully activated.
DoiX
i checked it already.... it's not optimus. And all that potch does is to rename GFX0 to IGPU... and merge PEGP and IGPU under the same "tree" Scratch that. i'll check it closely. Update: i doubt it very much to be for optimus... maybe for an acer with the bios unlocked but not for the actual optimus switch...

Looks like I am not alone in the KP with VoodooHDA. I patched version 0.2.7.3 (older version gives me KP sometimes still) with VoodooHDA patcher and use voodoo loader to load VoodooHDA whenever I would need audio. I have watched a full movie with no problem. Hmm i keep watching the mails which i get as a subscriber of this thread However i am not sure about one thing : Stay on 10.7.2 (as i am) , so far is still more reliant/fast/fully working than upgrading right? Or is there a newer version , more thoroughly supported for the XPS 15 than 10.7.2? I am asking also because in the link about the possibly Optimus solution there is 10.7 supported whereas 10.8 is not definitely supported.
is44c
DoiX, I guess I won't spend time on the wake for XPS 13 but as 10.7.4 boots quite fast with KernelCache on, it would be great if I can make it work with VoodooPS2. Any further hint on why VoodooPS2 won't work with KernelCache?
