Call me lazy but I prefer the simple method: just install Nvidia drivers turn on GraphicsEnabler and set PCIRootUID accordingly, works great for every GT210 i ever installed.

 

Not all 210s in every situation seem to be responding the same. I've gone from installations which I used an EFI string. Then in 10.8.1 all I needed was an up to date Chameleon and GraphicsEnabler="Yes". And in 10.8.2 I need the latest nvidia drivers in addition to GraphicsEnabler="YES". The inablity of the quick and easy solution to work is what started the whole EFI odessy.

I am having troubles with this card. It's an EVGA Geforce 210 1gb ddr3 PCIe card. I've successfully installed Snow Leopard (using legacy_kernel), but I can't get QE/CI working. I'm running a Dell XPS 200 which is Intel 945G Express chipset; using a dual core Pentium D 830 processor with 4gb DDR2 RAM. My monitor is VGA, so I have the monitor connected to the DVI port on the Geforce 210 via a DVI-VGA adapter. I've tried GraphicsEnabler yes and no, npci=0x2000 and npci=0x3000, PCIRootUID=0 and 1 and I've also created an EFI string. I've installed nvenabler.kext, I've installed GeForce and other nvidia kexts, but always the same outcome. I'm getting the desired 1280x1024 resolution, but just can't get graphics acceleration. For right now, I'm using no kext files and the EFI string and using chameleon v2.1svn r2069. Any help would be appreciated!

on some dells the pcirootuid is 1 or 4 not 0

 

also pentium d might not work best.. try a core duo with vanilla kernel.

I'll try PCIRootUID=4, have tried 1 and 0 and didn't make any difference. I appreciate the input from you. This is just my grandpa's old computer and I'm just horsing around with it... seeing what I can do with it. It's not my primary computer. I've tried various efi strings, various nvenabler, natit, nvinject, etc. I'm surprised that it seems no matter what I do, it makes no difference. I either get no screen, kp or 1280x1024 without QE/CI. Never get multiple resolution options in system preferences and never get QE/CI. I'll keep horsing around and if I get QE/CI, I'll post my success story here. If anyone has other ideas, I'd like to hear them.

likely u need to fix dsdt issues so u can keep as vanilla as possible.

 

I'm a complete noob when it comes to dsdt. I did create a dsdt.aml file using dsdt editor, but upon reboot, my mouse no longer worked! I know I should extract dsdt info and patch it or edit it and then create the .aml file, but I'm not sure what to edit and I can't find patches for this mobo: Dell 0DD431. Any thoughts?

I have tried the EFI String but don't work with my graphics card. I have an ASUS NVidia GeForce 210 (1GB DDR3) on an PC with a CPU AMD. I've the smbios of macpro 3,1, the legacy kernel and snow leopard 10.6.8 (I have also installed the nvidia driver...)

 

Suggestions?

I'm looking for a silent (fanless) GPU that works out of the box, so the GT 210 is a good candidate for me. However, I've a couple of questions:

 

1) Can you enable OpenCL on the GT210? If affirmative, what OpenCL version is reported?

 

2) I'm having a hard time choosing from the Asus and Gigabyte GT 210 silent cards... do you know if any of them is better or runs with lower temperature?

What that other guy said. Chameleon now uses org.chameleon.Boot.plist. Back when I first wrote this little guide it used com.apple.Boot.plist. So which file you use in the /Extra folder depends on which Chameleon you use.

Believing and reading everywhere I took the plunge at my level and bought this card I.e. asus en210 1gb ddr3.

My machine (dell e520) was fully working except graphics before installing the card on osx lion 10.7.3

Now before this card my monitor was connected through vga and now I connect with dvi of the card.

But insite of various attempt I have not been able to reach my desktop. Some allocation error or kernel panic stops it from booting in any mode -v -s -x -f all of them. Even added efi string and installed latest nvidia drivers.

But when I remove the card and plug monitor back to vga , lion starts working again.

BTW the card is not faulty as its running perfect on my windows 7.

 

Updated:

i reinstalled my machine from scratch this time with asus card plugged in dvi.

reached desktop installed everything. didn't have resolution though card was showing with

incomplete info in system info.

i installed kexts from osx86.net for asus gt210 and now i have full screen resolution.

Installed latest nvidia drivers and have full qe and ci now.

Thanks so much for this guide. Most importantly for anyone reading, make sure to remove GraphicsEnabler=Yes from your org.chameleon.Boot.plist file!

My computer is a Dell OptiPlex 760, Core 2 Duo 3.0 GHZ E8400 chip. Here I pasted my org.chameleon.Boot.plist for anyone interested.

Mountain Lion fresh Install 10.8.4

If you get a Black Blank screen when installing with the card in your machine, you may need to

 

1. remove it

2. do the install with another card

3. rename the NVDA kexts (backup) that come with ML

4. install card

5. reboot (it will boot without black screen if you rename the kexts)

6. Make changes to boot.plist (as per this guide)

7. rename back the NVDA kexts

8. Boot and profit!

 

Let me know if anyone needs help!

A lot of people are having problems with this card in Mavericks.

 

I had the card in 2 different computers and I tried to update to 10.9 Mavericks.

 

In 1 computer, it worked fine.  In the 2nd computer, it would hang at boot.

 

I probably could have researched and come up with a device properties string that worked for HDMI, but I chose to change the card with another silent card, the Asus HD5450.  Then I used the following guide to set the properties of that card in my DSDT: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/293049-guide-mavericks-amd-radeon-hd5450/

This card's default output in Mavericks is Hdmi. If you use other output, the screen will black out. I used the EFI string from this thread and it worked. I have QE/CI fully working. I noticed that if I removed the following three (GeForceTesla.kext, GeForceTeslaGLDriver.bundle and GeForceTeslaVADriver.bundle) from S/L/E, I'll loss QE/CI.

As of now I only have vga and dvi on my Dell 22'' screen.

 

P.S. 1. Do you think if I go for a dvi-hdmi adapter then this will work? Technically it should.

What about mavericks? Would it work by default or where do I fetch compatible ones? As nvidia hasn't released any after 10.8

1, dvi-hdmi adapter might work.

 

2, I had the screen blackout at first installation. I replaced the nvd*.kext from DP8 and installation was completed. The screen still balckout after reboot. Then I used this EFI string and it works. I think the original GM kext should work if I used EFI string first.

I mean the nvd*.kext from Apple store version of Mavericks. You have to install all of them.

Oh okay, will try this tomorrow, just gave a shut down and now off to bed. It's late here already.

 

By the way I have noticed my hack boots slow since day one, around 1:45 mins but shut down is 5-10 seconds max. Should I be concerned?

Here is my updated experience.

A clean install just didn't work. It would crash even before the kext loading.tried various combos and failed.

Finally I used my installer made from app store Mavericks, for an upgrade of my existing lion.

With very little tweaks I could do completely.

My build has so far everything working, it detects my graphic card too. But display is only 1280x800 instead of original 1620x1050.

No qe/ci. Every graphic thing is shaky. Hot corners, launch pad, etc.

 

Kindly suggest what should I do. As no release from nvidia as of now.
