Run Mac OS in VMWare Workstation without Hardware Virtualization

Hey guys,

 

as I couldn't run Mac OS in VMWare Workstation because my hardware is not capable of Hardware Virtualization, I figured out a way to bypass the check.

 

This patch was created using Tola's Patching Engine 2.03b and packed using UPX 3.07, which will possibly cause virus scanners to detect it as malware. However, this patch is absolutely clean and only changes 2 bytes in vmware-vmx.exe.

If this didn't work I wouldn't have posted it ;)

 

You're the first one of about 700 downloaders who says it didn't work so I guess you're either trying with the wrong version of VMWare (watch out for 32/64bit) or your vmware-vmx is already patched otherwise. Another patch changing this very section of code is highly unlikely, though.

that's why it doesn't work for you!

vmware-vmx.exe already exists. it's either right in the vmware installation folder or in case of x64 installation in the \x64 subfolder!

 

edit: should work on win7 x64 as well! look for vmware-vmx.exe in ...\Program Files\VMWare Workstation\x64\

If you have a version later than 7.1.4 and none of these patches work, feel free to upload your vmware-vmx.exe, that I can have a look at it. Also feel free to comment this in any way :rolleyes: .

I am using this version 7.1.4 build-385536 of Vmware on Windows 7 x64

I am trying to use OSX prebuilt vmdk file on Vmware.

 

After applying the Mac OSX guest patch (after or before tried both)

As soon as I open the vmware image i get this error:

You have configured this virtual machine to use a 64-bit guest operating system. However, 64-bit operation is not possible. This host does not support VT.

Continue without 64-bit support?

 

If I press Yes it hangs there,if no the image booting stops.

I have heard this patch works for many people,but it just doesn't seem to work right for me.

Please guide where am I doing it wrong.

After applying patch it says 1 of 1 patched.

I have never heard of this problem before. Unfortunately I can't try to reproduce this error, because I don't own a 64bit version of Windows 7. But as I've gotten hardly any negative feedback after about 3200 downloads, i suppose everything works fine.

 

Can't read the article you posted as the vmware knowledge base seems to be down due to some kind of maintenance.

 

Have you tried to 'tell' VMWare that you wanna install a 32 bit guest when you're creating the new VM? When I create one I can choose from "Mac OS X Server 10.6" and "Mac OS X Server 10.6 64-bit". Try using the non-64 option.

 

Not a solution but might be kind of a workaround for this issue. I'm studying for exams at the moment so I won't be able to take care of this within the next 3 weeks. That's also why my answer comes this late. Sorry for that!

 

If you find a solution for this, please keep me updated!

I have tried Mac OS X Server 10.6 option but then it does not execute this OSX Lion image as it is 64-bit.

I saw this problem occuring to many on this video thread:

Maybe it is 64-bit specific.

Maybe some more bytes needs to be changed in 64-bit .exes to counter this check in them.

 

I promise I'll have a look at your problem as soon as I have more free time. Might take a couple of weeks, though.

 

Also might be a Lion specific problem. Try installing 10.6.x for now if you're not dependant on 10.7.

There now is only a single patch for all versions (7.1.3+). Backup function was disabled due to a pile of people reporting crashes. Also, it shouldn't matter now if you already applied other patches such as the Mac OS Guest Unlocker.

This patch didn't work on my end. It said that it successfully patched it, but when I try to run the Mac OS X image, it says that it needs virtualization technology enabled because it is a 64 bit guest.

 

I'm using VMware 7.1.4 build 385536, and the files from this tutorial http://technologic10...e-in-windows-7/

If I click yes, it just hangs in a black screen, if no, it stops the VM.

Running Mac OS in 64bit mode without working VT seems not to be possible as easily. Try creating a new 32bit mode VM and Mac OS should be running just fine.

 

edit: Try changing the value of "guestOS" from "darwin64" to "darwin" or "darwin10-64" to "darwin10"

Not sure why, but this patch does not work for me.

I'm running Win7 64bit, but I have VMware Workstation v8.0.1.528992 32bit.

 

I placed the patch file in Program Files (86x)/VMware.. folder, ran the patch. Got a message saying 0 of 7 patterns, Patch will not work.

I ran it again, got a message saying 1 of 7 patterns.. Patch may work.

 

Tried to Power on the VM of OSX Lion and I contuniue to get "Mac OS X is not supported with software virtualization. To run Mac OS X you need a host on which VMware Workstation supports hardware virtualization."

 

Was really hoping this would work, as I have yet to find any other options/possible solutions.

I don't think that's possible as long as you run the standard vmware setup.

is there a \x64 subfolder? did you patch the vmware-vmx.exe file in the \x64 subfolder?

Hello, I've got the same problem as Kurt Hectic with VMware 7.1.3 (324285). You don't have any solution ? I'd love to install Mac Osx Lion on my PC, I was happy because I tought I could bypass the hardware virtualization successfully, but no...

Please help me.

If you have the very same problem as Kurt, this still applies:

 

Well if the VM starts, the patch works. If you get stuck during the boot process, that's a configuration issue.

 

I'm not too much into Mac OS itself, so I'm afraid I can't help you with this. Boot Lion in verbose mode to check what the problem is and you'll most likely be able to solve it.
