Lion installation via USB stick using Chameleon

Well, that was short lived. I'm trying to use the same instructions to install the retail Lion. I had trouble with Chameleon not finding mach_kernel. I resolved this at the boot prompt by typing /Extra/mach_kernel.

Once the installer drive booted it said something about this version of OS X Lion cannot be installed on this computer. My only options were to restore from a Time machine backup or reboot.

After the restoration, open the restored partition, navigate to System/Installation, delete the Packages link and create a folder with the same name, Packages.

Open Terminal and run the command:

open /Volumes/Mac\ OS\ X\ Install\ ESD/Packages

Copy the files to the Packages folder created previously.

Okay, today I downloaded Lion from the App Store, and I'm trying to follow this guide. I've created and restored the USB partition, and I just deleted the packages directory. Now I'm confused. Where are these new files for the Packages directory coming from?

delete the package alias, not the pakage folder itself (read the guide again, carefully)

A general question, does anyone has sleep working perfectly fine on a EP35-DS3L or any other Gigabyte mobo?

Refollowed the guide with my new purchase, works great.

As I have a Chameleon partition (Using the blackosx method), all I needed was mach_kernel in the root of the USB stick and it installed without a hitch!

Oh...btw...I am overclocked too (3.75GHz) ;)

Oi gente, o primeiro que tenho que fazer é dar meus parabens para o sr. MaLd0n. Obrigado.

I'm quite involved with hard and soft. That said, I had two large attempts to "migrate" to OSX86. This is the second coming.

Had trouble installing Lion on my i2500 (non-K) until I found this guide, but it didn't went smooth and I prefered to move that to my laptop.

It's a Sony VAIO VGN-FZ340E

Core2Duo T7250 - GeForce 8400M (Sony Invented this one, has it's own model, need to patch inf in windows to install nVidia drivers but can't remember the vendor right now)

IWI 4965 AGN - helpless. will try to find a replacement.

Marvell Yukon 88E8036

Install runs perfect from USB built using this guide. After booting I couldn't run DSDT until I found how to patch the AppleYukon2.kext

But after installing Chameleon and the Extra for MacBook 4 and re-booting:

-Keyboard died. Need to plug an external USB Keyboard

-Mouse(pad) died, same as above.

Mouse cursor starts blinking like crazy until I log in.

There are a lot of things I would love to enable, but for starters I need help with the Mouse and Keyboard. And the Geforce.

Card reader and other stuff can wait. But if someone has a clue what should I install after the vanilla, it'll be great.

Sorry for the huge text.

I don't know what is wrong with me but I can't get Chameleon or Extra Lion DP4 to install on the USB drive to save my life. I keep getting the error "Extra Lion DP4 can't be installed on this disk. You can only install this software on the disk that is running Mac OS X."

I have tried ejecting the USB drive, rebooting my machine and tried two other machines including a legit mac. What gives? This should be so simple yet I am stuck! This is so frustrating!

I have tried this. It all seems to go okay until I just get a black screen with a white cursor (full rectangle rather than normal single line) and a blank screen. Nothing happens.

This is when booting off the installer. It goes through Chameleon, selects boot device, then appears to be booting and right when you would expect the installer GUI for Lion to kick in you get this.

Any ideas?

I had the same problem. After adding a dsdt to the extra folder of the usb-stick, made with auto-patcher, the machine booted from the stick.

In my case the problems are:

no ethernet, so no internet with Lion GM (with a Realtek RTL8111B onboard chip)

and

the usual CMOS checksum error after sleep that screws the BIOS settings so that I had to configure the BIOS again to enable the machine to boot snow leopard. I read about these patches

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=253992

but I tend to wait yet till it turns out what works best.

He should have his instructions around the other way, install chameleon first then install the extra package.

Thanks for this guide folks!

Question on which directory to find the Lion DMG file: I installed Lion on my iMac using the App store. I need the DMG file so that I can copy it over to my Hackintosh (core 2 duo, 10.6.8, Asus Rampage formula, Chameleon 2 RC 5 Vanilla install). I understand that after installation the dmg gets deleted, so I re-downloaded it from the App store, but I do not see it anywhere. I looked under /uses/USERNAME/Library/Application Support but there is no App folder there. Any ideas?

I tried to download Lion directly on the hackintosh through the apps tore, but it gives me an error "This version of Mac OS X 10.7 cannot be installed on this computer."

Many thanks!

I got KP on IOFirewireFamily when booting the USB stick, so I deleted it and successfully got into the installation interface. I would like to know if the kext is solely for firewire? If so, I may not need it since I never use firewire and I don't have any device using firewire.

Another issue is, the installation app could not find my SATA 2.0 hard drive! Shall I change it to SATA 1.0 port?

When I checked the "about this mac", it said I have one ram memory and one ddr3 memory and running at 1333Mhz, the fact is I have 2 ddr3 running at 1600Mhz. What can I do to get the correct recognition?

Thanks!

Hi,

I stuck on booting with this Message:

IOAPIC: Version 0X20 vector 64:87

Has anybody a solution for this? Snow Leopard boots quite well…

AHCI is activated in Bios.

I tried

-v -x cpus=1

-v noapic cpus=1

etc.

After putting the installer to a second SATA drive it boots up well, but after selecting a language it says it can't read the install disc. "Clean and try again blabla"..

WTH?

I followed the guide, copied the packages, tried Netkas PC Efi for Lion and Chameleon 2.0 RC5. Gigabyte EP45-DS3L Cartri BIOS running 10.6.8 perfectly.

Any ideas?

//Edit:

Sorry, just started over again and it works now. No need for DSDT still thanks to Cartri.

When you download OS X Lion App from Mac App Store it goes in /Applications, when you install it, it desappears !

So you have to copy or burn a DVD from the

--> "Install Mac OS X Lion.app/Contents/SharedSupport/InstallESD.dmg "

before install !

:D

After the restoration, open the restored partition, navigate to System/Installation, delete the Packages link and create a folder with the same name, Packages.

What if there is no Installation folde in System?? Should I create this one and Packages inside it?

The hard drive issue has been solved after I switched my SATA controller in BIOS from IDE to ACHI. But one of my 2 memory sticks is still recognized as RAM not DDR3.

I don't know if applying proper DSDT will solve this problem.

Reporting a successful install on a Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3R

No audio or Ethernet, unsure the status of my AppleHDA from SL install, might already be patched??

Major props, as I have dual-display (using DVI-VGA adapters on both) for the first time in a long time.

ATI Radeon HD 4870 1GB  although they're not detecting all resolutions just yet.
