Hey I have to buy a new usb webcam. I just installed Snow Leopard on my PC, and everything works ok, I just need a new webcam + mic to use with the new Skype (5.1). I don't wanna go crazy though.. I want it to work right away, as soon as I plug it in (is it even possibile)? And I don't wanna spend 100 $.. let's say medium price

Please help me! I don't wanna go back to Windows

Buy the C270 from logitech works out of the box, Photobooth, ichat, facetime, messanger 8, quicktime

Logitech c310 works too ( 720p HD videos + sound ) A fried gave me one to test it :

photobooth / ichat

quicktime x

facetime

Premiere Elements

exported video from QT X can be postprocessed in imovie and final cut , very good *.MOV and h264 quality. Brilliant Colours, sharp picture even in a dark room . Microphone is also ok, no need to hang with the head near to it :(

Other options are the C510 (like most UVC webcams, it's directly supported, which is why the C310 also works) and its direct successor, the C525. Because the C525, like the C510, is a UVC webcam, it makes for an ideal webcam for Hacks that multiboot.

I have a QuickCam Communicate STX that works great in Windows 7 Ultimate x64, but is an absolute disaster on the OS X side of things (it has issues with macam in Snow Leopard, and is practically a non-starter with Lion). It also is five-plus years old (it dates back to Windows XP Service Pack 1 and was originally Windows Live Messenger swag, along with a messenger bag), so it's well overdue for replacement. UNfortunately, I couldn't grab the C510 while the local BB was clearing them out - however, the C525 is not much more spendy than the clearance price for the C510.

BestGadgetDeals' video review of the Logitech C525 on YouTube - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0CNpkO6aR4 (the interesting thing is that the review was shot on a Mac, and it's the OS X side of things that gets discussed a lot)
