Ok so I'm completely new to the whole OSx86 concept and so far I'm loving it. I have iATKOS S3 V2 installed and it is currently running 10.6.3 by default. My question is for the most possibly noobish guide on upgrading it to 10.6.7 using the combo package which I have ready. Last time I tried it, I ran it, installed smoothly and no mouse. Everything ran just like it was without mouse support. I have a Dell USB Optical Mouse and my configuration is listed below:

Dell Inspiron 570

AMD Athlon II x2 2.8 GHz

3GB DDR3 RAM

ATI Radeon HD 4650 1GB PCIe x8

DVD/RW Drive

I am also using the Chameleon RC4 bootloader with the qzoop (I think that's how it was) 10.3.0 kernel. If it helps, I am dual booting with Windows 7 Home Premium x64. Also, this post was written on the Mac so it is fully working right now. Thanks for any advice.

Probably because IOUSBfamily.kext and IOUSBMassStorage.kext was updated, and it ruined the functionality of your mouse. Now that you're on 10.6.3, copy these two kexts from /System/Library/Extensions/ to your desktop. Download the combo update, and run it. When completed don't restart. Open kext utility (download it, if you haven't got it), drag the the two kexts from your desktop to the kext box (IOUSBfamily.kext and IOUSBMassStorage.kext), type your password and click 'Easy Install' restart, and your mouse should be working. ;)

And you are going to need the 10.6.7 Legacy kernel for an AMD machine. Install it before restart.

Ok so I found the legacy kernel from here http://3rr0rists.net/macintosh/legacy-kern...0-6-7-10-7.html

Now let me see if I understand.

Step 1) Install combo upgrade

Step 2) Install backed up kext using kext utility (KextHelper?)

Step 3) Install legacy kernel

Step 4) Reboot

Is this what I need to do?

Looks right to me. I would get the kernel from this link http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...t&p=1662578

Update the kernel, yep. Just make sure you don't restart before applying the new kernel and installing the kexts. HOWEVER, you've already reported that the only problems are the mouse, so you should be set to go without the kernel. But you should probably update that too.

Here's a link to Kext Helper B7: http://www.kexts.com/view/250-kext_helper_b7.html

It runs fine except for a few things that I would like to have fixed.

First, the Mac App Store always says that it cannot connect. The same goes with iTunes and I would like to have them both working. Second, Safari freezes up on me and I am now using Firefox 4. If you can please help me fix this issues, that would be great.

I've never heard of these problems before. Is QE/CI enabled? These problems are hard to locate because you've used a distro. It would've been a lot easier to locate if you were to have installed using a Retail guide, since distro's slam a lot of cr*p into their installation to make it work for more machines.

Actually, I never installed my video driver. Let me try installing it and see what happens. I am also wondering something. Last time I installed the driver, I got a blue screen and only single user mode would boot. If I get a blue screen again, what should I do?

Again, I'm not sure since you've used a distro. Is your apple bar, (the top bar) translucent? Safari might be freezing up because you don't have QE/CI enabled, and flash 10.0+ requires QE/CI to function. The App Mac Store, not connecting is strange, does iTunes connect to its store?

No the bar is not translucent so yeah I don't have QE/CI. I found a kext but from what I'm reading, people say it doesn't work and it requires graphics enabler. How can I enable graphics enabler with Chameleon RC4? And also, yes iTunes can't connect to the App Store either but I think I found a fix for that. Here's the link to the kext I found for my video card: http://www.kexts.com/view/605-ati_radeon_hd4650.html

Thank you very much for your help.

Do you have device-id? Do you have windows installed on same machine? Graphics Enabler, is a flag. During bootloader (Chameleon), type in "-v GraphicsEnabler=y". If the kext doesn't work, you'll need to add the device-id to ATI4600Controller.kext and ATIRadeonX2000.kext.

Yes I do have Windows installed on the same machine and I will try it now with graphics enable in Chameleon. I will post what happens in a minute, hopefully from the Mac.

Actually, before I install anything, how can I put a device ID into the kext file? Thanks.

You need to find out the device I'd first, you should google how, since I can't direct you right now. And then google how to add a device Id to the kext. Enabling graphics enabled right now would be useless, well that's what I think.

I'm sure this forum has information on how to enable your graphics card.
