I installed CoreDuoTemp yesterday on my macbook and realized the idle frequency of the cpu was 1.5 ghz, which seems too high (600 mhz on my pc). I installed speedit today and tried lowering the FID but I then got this message: sysctl: speedit.setFID: Operation not supported on socket

So, is there anyone that succeeded lowering the FID or the VID on the macbook? From experience with my pc I know that lowering these can allow the temperature significantly, on the pc the maxtemp decreased 20 degrees celsius when lowering the VID 0.2 volts.

Anyone tried rmclock in xp?

i read in another forum, that the minimum frequency under osx is 1,5 ghz.

with speed it you can choice: 1,5 - 1,66 - 1,83 ghz

when you unplug the battery the system go in safe state to 1 ghz, but you cant switch the freqencys higher.

its in an interessting bug i think, because in windows over bootcamp, you can switch from 983 mhz to 1,83 ghz.

The new update only controle the fans not the dynamic clock range :tomato:

I'm very keen on keeping the macbook quiet so I don't want to install the update since it's not possible to revert to the old one. I tried to change the frequency with speedit but I get those socket errors.

In xp (with rmclock) I was able to control the fid but only so I came down to 999 mhz, and the lowest voltage was around 0.95 V, which seems qute high. I'm going to test undervolting the largest fid also.

I heard the merom cpu is expected on the macbook in september, do you know if it's possible to swap the yonah with a merom? hmm, but the merom is 64 bit, and what about the mainboard then?

Installing the update won't make your macbook make more noise, it will actualy make it quieter, the fans run at a very very low speed all the time but its only really noticable if u put it right against your ear. The temperatures are much lower because of this so the fans dont usualy have to spin up as much to keep it all cool so this keeps the noise as a whole down and prevents the annoying moo noise.

It wont be possible to swap the CPU in a macbook as it is soldered to the motherboard so you would have to replace the whole board unless u are very very good at soldering. there is a company that upgrades the cpu in late powerbooks (daystar i think) so they may one day do the same for macbooks but i have no idea if its possible.
