Hey yehia Amer

do you know how to get your internal wifi card working cos i tried a lot of kext and 20th pin method on the wifi card to force it to stay on when boot up but nothing is working? Have you tried the Mammoth antenna modification? My DV6-2155 (have same spec as you laptop but it a i5) and the antenna cable is too short for me. So i could not try it. :(

Right now i going to try mammoth method where I'm going to use the second PCI-E Slot and a separate laptop antenna (cos my current antenna is too short) I going to buy an airport extreme wifi card from the internet and try. If it did not work then i'm going to try 20pin method on the apple wifi card and mess around with the bios version, if it come to last resort. Hope it will work.

Hello everyone!

It's been a long time since I've actually "been here". Great to see you are keeping our Hacs alive!!! Awesome work and contribution Yehia Amer and everyone's friend, Taptun!!! I haven't looked at everyone's post, but for sure see a lot of old friends! : )

I am weighing whether I should create a new guide focusing on a clean install of Mavericks 10.9.2. What does everyone think? Is there even a need for such a thing? Seems like A LOT has changed!!! Maybe it's not so difficult anymore.

I'm in the process of building a new Hac with an older ASUS Maximus Formula (I) board and Mavericks 10.9.2, and MAN has it been a pain in the @55!!!!! I thought it would be easy with all the new advances in bootloaders and things, but... HOLY SMOKE... I'm ready to KILL myself! :P Looks like I'm just finally getting it to a point where I can claim "winning", which I then found myself saying... "I'm going to have to create a guide for this!"

I hadn't booted OS X on my DV8 for over two years, and when I did, it was all borked up; so I used my own guides and tools to reinstall and was very happy to find it actually all worked, first time, and I was up and running again (I'm on it right now in fact). That's of course because I wrote the guides and built the tools with and for this machine. : P Sorry to all those who tried to make it work for their machines and couldn't. As soon as I finished v2.00... Apple was releasing 10.7.0 and Intel released new CPUs and chips that changed everything! I no longer had the time to start all over and solve all the new issues. : ( I was spent! (Lesson learned: DON'T start putting together a new guide at the END of an OS X release cycle).

Anyway, what does it take now in order for us to be able to FINALLY use Apple vanilla kernels on our HP's? I've read a couple things here and there, but if someone could "fast-track it" for me (refer me to a post with the details), that would be GREAT! I assume it's just a matter of using a version Chameleon or Clover from a certain version forward.

Anyway, very nice to say hi to you all again, and I may just have to throw some guides together... for the NEXT time I'll have to use them!!!

Hi Mammoth

I am Very happy to see you again  :thumbsup_anim:

Really  :D

It will Be Great to Update your topic, There is a lot of changes out there

First of all Clover made a real Revolution in using complete EFI Boot, and also easily patching the kernel and kexts on-the-fly, especially the Kernel  :)

If you want to make the Lapic Fix work just turn the patch on, you can use the Config File in my post (For more info http://clover-wiki.zetam.org/Configuration/KernelAndKextPatches#KernelLapic )

also i am working to enable AppleHDA Patching working and may be wifi too so that we can update safely without any change or kexts installing after updating

so we can work together to make this Guide and Help others to benefit from this Features

Good Luck  :angel:

Thank you Yehia!

OK, I'm trying to wrap my brain around this Clover vs. UEFI vs. installing it on a USB with Mavericks. The directions that come with it are clear as mud to me. :wacko: For one, it talks about installing an "etc" directory: sudo cp -v etc/* /etc/

I don't get that or know what they mean. I tried to apply this to the /etc of Mac OS X, but that can't be what is meant, can it? If you know of a good write-up on how to install / use Clover, that would really help me. Hard to believe how much things have changed. I'm a n00b again... :withstupid:

Yes, I FINALLY upgraded from... 10.6.7 to 10.6.8 using Taptun's glorious work, and everything is fine... except as you already know, my/Taptun's mini AudioEnabler script doesn't work with the 10.6.8 version... that was short lived, but great while it worked. For those using ChamExtUp, I have created a new version that works better keeping networking alive (at least with 10.6.8, which know one is probably using anymore). I'll attache here though if anyone wants to try it or could use it... hmmm... what happened to our ability to attach files?

It seems like you and Taptun should be able to get that script to work... Apple probably just juggled things around a bit so we need to point it to its new location, but Taptun would know better than I.

Oh, I also have an ASUS S56C Ultrabook now. It has an i3 Sandy. I'm going to try to get OS X Mavs on it too.

Alright... I'm off to read up on Clover. :bye:

Hey there, I have some important info for you about this... it does work and this is what I did... HOWEVER... If you are going by the pictures I put in the guide for this procedure, there is one thing you need to correct:

Make sure the antenna wires DO NOT route through the optical drive!!!! I believe in the guide, there are pictures where the wires ARE routed through the optical drive casing. Everything was working perfectly for many months, until the day I tried to pull out the optical drive... which snapped the antenna wires out of their connectors. :( :( :( Woops.

Make sure you can remove and insert the optical drive without the wires becoming an issue. Other than that, it's an awesome solution and every card I have installed has worked (those compatible with OS X of course). All will work with Windows.

looks like my stock wireless card works on mac FINALLY

Dual-Band 802.11n and Bluetooth 3.0 Half MiniCard BCM943224HMB

Broadcom 43224AG 802.11a/b/g/draft-n [14E4-4353]

Apple changed some of its kexts and thanks to our great community we can patch it to work

i will test it and post my feedback

this is a great guide to know what do what but anyway you can use clover configurator as a gui to change most of the config file settings

Should be great once I get a handle on it.

Ok, I have FOUR different computers I am either trying to upgrade from our old friend Snow Leopard, or install for the first time Mavericks on AND use Clover. It's been very painfully, but mostly now I have learned some of the media / OS X Base Images I was trying to use had problems, PLUS the main machine I have been focusing on, an old ASUS Maximus Formula (I) machine has MULTIPLE hardware issues... which have been the primary cause for me not to be successful with Clover... or anything.

To wit, I have my main GA-Z77X-UP7 up on Mavericks (with Chameleon for now), and I finally have my DV8 up and running with Clover (I haven't had a chance to add all Yehia Amer's wonderful files and configurations yet, but it's up and running!

WOW! WHAT A FREAKING DIFFERENCE!!! I always hated how slow the boot process was on our machines with Chameleon; Clover is so fast!!! And built in Lapic fix... AMAZING! I don't know if anyone has checked on this yet, but Clover also solved an issue that always really bothered me - Now our machines PASS the Diagnostic test in System Information AND memory speed FINALLY shows correct at 1333 instead of the 1330 it has always shown on my machine.

There is almost no reason to create a guide (almost) as it can be pretty straight forward. So many problems have been solved, and it's wonderful. :) :) :) Thanks to EVERYONE on the Clover team, at Voodoo Labs, and all the many contributors that made these threads their home and have worked so hard and lent their talents to all of us!

I will probably be creating a new guide, but it will mostly just be compiling / consolidating all the info you all have already provided and best ways to use Clover with these machines. Should be a much, much smaller guide too.

Anyway, I'm really excited about Clover and what it has done, and what it can do. Thanks for everyone's input and help over the last few years!

I'm considering upgrading the CPU in my DV8. Interesting? ;)

Great to hear that, waiting for the New Guide :)

I think the main thing that we need to focus on now is AppleHDA !

we are still rolling back to a very old AppleHDA kext, v2.0.5 i think

and the best solution is to use Patch AppleHDA on the Fly with clover boot loader, so we don't need to rollback in every update

also i think it will make our system more faster and without all those "sound assertion" errors

I tried to do much on my own, but it was unsuccessful.

so i think we need help from Taptun !

Some Tips to remember to put in your Guide

1) Booting Mac & windows using Clover in Full EFI mode (no Hybrid partitions at all)

2) Adding Mac Recovery partition (Using Recovery Partition Creator 3.7.zip) -- To make features like Find my mac Work

post-307642-0-97714500-1395560515_thumb.png

3) Adding this little DSDT Patch to enable Stock WiFi work :D

            Device (RP01)
            {
                Name (_ADR, 0x001C0000)

                    }
                }

4) Power Management Fix using (ssdtPRGen.sh) -- without it No speed stepping & Turbo boost

5) Finally please take a look  at my old post 1477

to make AppleHDA.kext work, you need to change "layout-id" in DSDT From

0x78, 0x03, 0x00, 000 ---> 0xB3, 0x1D, 0x00, 0x00

Good luck  :angel:

Hey everyone,

I just stumbled across something that might be helpful for some of you, a quick / or other way, to get audio. Just as an experiment I plugged in my Trendnet TBW-105UB USB Bluetooth adapter and Mavericks sees it right away (as a Broadcom). Paired my Nuvelli NU2882 bluetooth headphones, and perfect! Audio!

Hello Yehia Amer!

I am getting more and more up to speed with Clover and our HP machines... THANK YOU for all the wonderful information so far; it has all really helped me a lot!

Have you tried Clover Configurator yet? This is THE must have companion App to Clover, they really should be bundled together:

http://mackie100.webwacemaster.altervista.org/

I would like you to try something with Clover Configurator (and I really think you will like the results). I have been using and learning CC now for several weeks now. One of its awesome features is its ability to create a near perfect config.plist file for any computer IN SECONDS! I am using the one it created for my DV8, just about everything is working including WiFi (not audio, haven't even begun to look at that yet), and I'm running with NO DSDT! It's quite amazing. With CC, it is VERY easy to make all adjustments to the config.plist file, all from a very clean GUI.

The only requirement for running Clover Configurator, is that you run it from within OS X and you are running Clover, (in other words, it wont work if you're booted with Chameleon). Once you get it installed, select Extra from the Toolbar, then 'Generate Config File'. Backup your existing one, then overwrite it with the one CC generates. Then remove (rename) your current DSDT.aml... wait before you do that, make sure in the CC generated config.plist you change the name of the DSDT to 'BIOS.aml', that is important. You will find this setting in the first tab of CC, 'Acpi', then 'DSDT Name'.

OK, there are a couple of other setting you need to tweak before you try this... under CC's 'Boot' tab, there is a crazy little slider over to the right labeled 'Timeout'; slide this over to whatever you want (I'm using 15sec for testing). If you don't change this, no Clover GUI when you boot, it will just go right into whatever your default partition is. Also, on CC's 'System Parameters' tab, I recommend checking 'No Caches'. This way, changes you make will be immediately reflected upon next boot.

OK... try it out, and let me know how it works for you.

P.S. The ONLY two additional kexts I am currently using are FakeSMC.kext (v5.1.26) and RealtekRTL8111.kext, and I have both of them in EFI/CLOVER/kexts/10.9.

Hello Mammoth & everyone,

I finally Figured out with help from "Mirone" what is causing problems with our Sound Kext & all Problems Related to sound are now fixed
Also Now we don't have to Replace the sound Kext in every update and we let Clover do the Patching

Now Speaker works, LineOut works, mic Works, HDMI Works, LineIn, not Tested  and finally there is no sound assertion errors  :thumbsup_anim:

What you Need to do is :

0) revert back to AppleHDA Vanilla Kext : AppleHDA 2.6.0f1 (10.9.2).zip

1) install this kext in S/L/E : AppleHDA IDT 7603.kext.zip   (it is Recommended to use Kext wizard, and Repair Permissions & Cache)

2) Add these KextsToPatch in Clover:

post-307642-0-65812700-1398219592_thumb.png

or use this already made Clover plist: config.plist.zip

3) change "layout-id" in DSDT TO ---> 0x0C, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00

Good Luck  :thumbsup_anim:

Hello,

First of all, thank you to all for your great works on our beloved HP notebooks,,

I did try to install Mavericks with clover several time without any success before,,,,well,,when i checked the forum today, i think i am gonna try again, at least, one more shot,,, But,,,it would be great to have a Step-by-Step Guide to install Maverick via USB with Clover i dont know if someone working on it or not,,, but if anyone can tell the progress,, it would be appreciated.

Edit: Well, i did install maverick and got it work,,, by using Clover and yehia Amer's config.plist, DSDT.aml and kexts from post #1477,,, But i replaced wifi card by BCM94312MCG and installed an old version of io80211.kext and its working now,,, it can see wireless networks but cant connect.... when i tried to join a network, it says failed to connect :S i can connect same modem via cable.. anyone can help me??

Some of you guys recently on here have similar systems as I do. Maybe someone could help. I realize new people don't usually get help but I have been here for 3 days literally reading and trying all day yesterday.

I read Mammoths prep stuff older method for bios and have that set the same I believe we have same boards, very close specs.

I have been through 4 installations and it always boots to OSX fine(no sound or wifi) when it's booted from the USB created with Clover after I made bootable install of vanilla latest Install Mavericks downloaded from App Store. It takes 5 minutes though to boot.

If it boots off the partition of the drive all hell breaks loose. I've tried copying all the EFI folder from USB to the hard drive partition that works but still doesn't work. I even went ##### route once and then didn't work.

I have installed Windows 8.1 on first partition installed in legacy. I did first use Mac's disk utilities to format everything then install Windows.

1 hard drive, partition scheme in order is EFI(secure GPT), Windows 8.1, Mac.

Is this possible without UEIF?

I've followed a 3 different tutorials and have had no success booting Mac without USB drive. Sometimes white screen, apple logo, no spinner. Different boot settings same thing. Used safe mode black screen and something about Mac OS no name or something.

Any help maybe a different config.plist for Clover that is closer to my specs would be greatly appreciated.

@blazinsmokey

First: Install Clover to your USB,,, it wil create a volume named EFI,,, boot files will be at there,,, you have very close hardware configuration so you can use Yehia Amer's dsdt.aml and config.plist,,, first copy config.plist to your clover folder under EFI partition,,, if you dont know how to mount efi partition just use Clover Configurator... then put to DSDT.aml to the ACPI patched folder,,, and kexts,, you should put them in the 10.9 folder under kext folder then you are ready to boot and install mavericks... it will restart itself when trying to install,, its normal let it go with boot from USB again...

Second: After installation you should install clover to your HDD,, and copy the config.plist, kexts and dsdt.aml  put them in same folders on HDD,, if you want to install windows,, just install normal ways but you wont be able to boot in OSX,,, you should boot from USB one more time and run mavericks and install clover again,,, thats it...

Edit: Cleared out my extra questions as I solved them and came back to possibly help others.

Thank you very much @HaTTor for your input and reply.

It's working!! Some what.

I really appreciate the work people have put into these particular machines. I feel like our laptops are still good for a couple years at minimum.

For future reference and people coming after me. My specs are as listed in my sig. A couple things before I give a brief overview to share what I learned. Just because Windows 8.1 installs a EFI partition does not mean your system is using UEFI, a bit of Googling made it seem so but it is not. I also do not recommend the modded BIOS for my system, it is unstable.

Post install is where I was stuck. Root drive not found. The white background and Apple logo with no spinner, then with spinner, what was crazy is that if I kept booting from my USB install it would boot up. This is what worked for me.

After the 2 reboots from USB to finish the install and setup Mac. I installed clover on my Mac partition. I did not use Amer's DSDT, generated my own config file with Clover Configurator, did some very minor adjustments for the GUI. Only 2 kexts used were FakeSMC and RealtekRTL81xx.

My Clover install for Mavericks had only these checked in the options

  • Install Clover in the ESP
  • Bootloader -> Install boot0ss in MBR
  • CloverEFI -> CloverEFI 64-bits SATA
  • Themes -> BootCamp (honestly I can't imagine how this would effect anyone's boot up)
  • Install RC scripts on target volume
  • Install Clover Preference Pane

When Installing windows do not directly boot from your Windows USB installer or DVD. Get to the Clover boot screen then select the correct partition or in my case my DVD drive. Windows installer will then recognize and install as UEFI giving a true EFI setup without any hybrid boot partitions. It is truly sweet.

Edit: Having the hardest time getting sound to work. Tried extracting my DSDT but my system will not boot with it for some reason. Is there a way to get sound working without DSDT?

Hi guys

I have been able to yosemite install dp2 on a usb hd and am able to boot into it by clover legacy/efi mode,but can't reach the desktop as I can't enter the user name and pass word as my touchpad and key board are not working.

I am able to boot the install only if I attach a usb mouse.But that can't enter the username/password etc and I am stuck at that step.

If I do not attach the usb mouse the boot stops with the following screen as shown by another poster:.

I have tried putting vodoops2controller.kext. in both the clover/efi /kext folder only and also in that plus s/le together but still no go.

I used BOOT USB OS X YOSEMITE V1(Clover/Chameleon to make the install usb. and am using the latest fakesmc.kext and vodoops2controller.kext by rehabman.

So what do I do?

Is this a kernel cache issue as to why the ps2 kext is not loading.

My specs are in the signature.

Please advise

Thanks

Edit:

I had started a thread about this issue in yosemite installation subforum but nobody has replied so I was hoping some of you would be trying yosemite yourself and guide me.
